Proving itself hugely popular interstate and abroad, Sushi Sushi is a relative newcomer to the Queensland raw fish scene. The Garden City store was only the second open in the state, but now a few more have followed(thank goodness). Still, in case you haven’t cottoned on yet I feel it is my duty to inform you that this is the best takeaway sushi around. Not only is everything delicious, fresh and made from top quality ingredients, they have brown rice options, something I had never seen before. The taste is a little different of course, but it’s still amazing and there’s the added bonus of feeling even healthier with your meal choice. This is not a place that you’ll come across overly Westernised versions of sushi, with mostly more traditional flavours available. The trendy design of the place really doesn’t belong in an overcrowded shopping centre, but I’m certainly glad it’s there.

Sushi Sushi looks like a fast food outlet but you’d be much better off dining in and savouring the flavours of their nigiri, inari and sushi. Their menu is by far the best at Garden City with some tasty options such as their scallop nigiri and peking duck sushi. Even the sushi rice tastes better here. I’ve been told there’s quite an art to making sushi rice with trainee sushi chefs in Japan spending years just mastering the rice technique before moving onto toppings. Having sampled such a wide array of sushi rice I heartily believe this. For this higher quality sushi, you’re looking at a starting price of $ 2.50 moving up to around $ 3.50 for their premium range. It’s worth the splurge though at the end of a shopping trip.
