Finally found my daily breakfast venue! I’ve tried every café in Camberwell and The Bookshop Café wins, hands down. Food is great and fresh, coffee is perfect, and the service is wonderful(I’m a fan of smiles). Also, it’s really affordable($ 6.90 for a coffee and bacon & egg sandwich) The biggest plus: they accept Eftpos with no minimum!

The bookshop café in Camberwell is a great idea — what could be better than great literature and delicious coffee and food? When I think of a bookshop café I imagine bookshelves filled with great works literature, a kids section and a decent murder mystery range surrounded by old and ridiculously comfortable leather couches. The coffee would be amazing, the food comforting and the atmosphere one of luxury and relaxation. If only. I think the problem was that I expected too much. I really wanted the Bookshop Café to be like what I had conjured up in my dreams. There is nothing actually wrong with the Bookshop Café — it’s just that it is missing the charm and comfy couches and beautiful bookshelves. But I’ll let it slide. The food is good and includes some hearty European fare like goulashes and pies. The coffee is fine, but not as good as other Camberwell cafes and the service is friendly. The Bookshop Café is a really nice place to sit down, relax and have an inexpensive meal. It just needs to invest in some leather couches and we may be onto something.
