I thought I would check this restaurant out as I love s good sushi train. Unfortunately it did not come up to its ratings on Unilocal. The food was very standard, there were plates going around that looked like it may have been going around for hours. Raw fish — not a good thing to leave out! The avocado was black on a lot of plates too, and rubbery. Again a sign of being out way too long. Sorry, just a big turn off. I will go back in a few weeks and see if there are any improvements. 3 stars for standard good and service.

I’ve been coming here for a few years and have managed to bring my daughter from a place where she didn’t want to try ‘shushi’(I love how she used to say it) to what is now a special father-daughter visit/chat/meal where various dishes get consumed, her favourite being Unagi(eel), although she still shyes from shashimi cuts. Now to work on my boy. Sushi train gets very busy but is very welcoming as all the staff greet you and their service is great. The set up is simple and restaurant clean. You get the choice of sitting on stools by the train, which will always be my favourite, to actual tables/booths where you now use the computer to select and order your food. In both cases selecting your food is easy although for newbies there’s always a bit of a gap between how the menu presents and how the food looks and tastes. Plate/meal choices range in price from $ 3 to $ 5 and are a good selection of close to originals to a smaller mix of what a Western palate may prefer. Thankfully they lean towards the original side. They offer a card now where you collect points each time you visit and can ultimately earn yourself discounts. If you enjoy mainstream Japanese you’ll enjoy Sushi Train.

I lurve good sushi — and you can’t go wrong with the delectable selection presented to on a conveyor belt at Sushi Train! This particular one in Welland is the closest one to my house and work so naturally I am a frequent visitor. Located at Welland shopping centre, it does offer you plenty of parking although I noticed it can get quite full in busy periods. Every visit I’ve experienced the place has always been quite busy, especially during lunch hour so expect a bit of a line up! Inside you can be seated on a booth where a touchscreen allows you to order off the menu or sit by the belt to take your pick. Now onto the good stuff, the food! You have everything you can expect to see in a sushi joint — from sashimi to many tasty sushi morsels. My favourite would have to be the mini ebi tempura and salmon avocado and onion. But my all time favourite if I’m in the mood is a hearty bowl of udon noodle soup. For only $ 8.50 its excellent value and soooo good!

Sushi with a smile. Sushi Train is a very popular group of restaurants, they offer a dine in service as well as a take away. Sushi Train is one of my regular dinner options, either here at Welland or one of the other outlets. The staff are always friendly and attentive if you are looking to order something from the menu that isn’t going around on the train and they are cheerful to speak to, if you are looking to have a quick dine-in experience this might not be the best choice for you. Sushi Train is so popular that there is often a line-up for the dine-in tables, the average wait that I have had to get in to a Sushi Train is about half an hour, sometimes more during the lunch or dinner rush times, until about 8pm they are quite busy. If you are after good Sushi with a wide range of options rather than the limited varieties at other sushi stores Sushi Train is the best choice you can make, become a VIP member too, the point you earn will get you discounts from your future meals.

Sushi on Port Rd is a rare find. Spend an afternoon in Welland Shopping Centre and you’ll spot some rare finds too. Luckily I have been able to do both. After rushing around the Port suburbs one day I realised I had to eat, but sushi was not on my radar as something I could get in this area as a healthy, served on the run and high quality lunch item. Well Unilocal saved the day again. Walking into their very sophisticated black walled room with down lighting and clean booths I almost I forgot I was in Welland Plaza. I sat down for a couple of hand rolls and some sashimi and was impressed by the quality of the fish and freshness of products served(well done Sushi Train for consistently good food). I don’t know why this is the only Sushi Train in Adelaide that has an iPad ordering system, bravo for technology! It would also appear to have some kind of mechanism that filters out the clientele of Welland Plaza — that’s too advanced for me to even understand.

Sushi train puts crack in their sushi. Fact.(My facts may or may not be true.) I’m not sure what it is but I have a serious sushi train addiction, to the point where I’ll drive for a long time to get it in a short lunch break. It can vary from shop to shop, the Grenfell St one was VERY iffy for a while but they have sorted themselves out. With anything covered in kewpie and BBQ sauce being my favourite, I know I’ll always go back.

I’m definitely into sushi in a big way these days, a bit different to when I was younger and wouldn’t go near the stuff. Sushi Train produce high quality sushi perfect for a snack, or a healthy lunch. Everyone here is so friendly which makes the experience eating here even better. I recommend the California rolls, and the chicken teryaki.

I love trying new things and I love everything there is at Sushi Train! I know I love it because I’m not a massive fan of driving, but I drive to the other side of town for this place. It seems a bit out of place in a shopping centre on Port Road, but hey, I’m not complaining! It means lots of parks and that they’ve been able to build a big enough restaurant to fit more people at one time in. With a friendly greeting by all the staff members(cooks, waitresses, waiters etc) as you walk through the door, Sushi train has that friendly and appreciative culture that makes you feel good for eating there. The method of food delivery is a novelty too. All of the food comes around on a belt as you either sit at a table or along a bench and you just pick the food you’re after as it comes past. The colour of the plates indicates how much that dish costs and they’re all really filling and really reasonable(average $ 3.50 per plate). You can only get through a couple of plates which makes it hard to make the decision. I always get excited, take a plate off and then wished I’d waited a little longer to see what else comes around. However, you can just ask any of the friendly staff wandering around for drinks or a specific dish. Their hospitality is above and beyond. Ready to go? Just get up and a staff member will be next to you in a second, jotting down what coloured plates you had so you can pay at the counter. It’s a really good system. I always enjoy going here, not only for the taste but for trying new things.

I only recently found out about the Sushi Train, but once I did I immediately become a fan. I don’t think I’ve ever walked into a more friendly restaurant. The staff are incredibly polite and always ready to cater to your needs. The food has always been impeccably fresh and offer a wide variety for everyones taste buds. It’s also a very interesting thing to be able to watch the chefs prepare the food in-front of you. Or am I the only one who takes comfort in the fact that they’re not out the back ruining my meal? My only reasoning for not giving the Sushi Train 5 stars is due to the fact that it’s a little hard to figure out what each dish is, which could be a problem for those with food allergies. It also sucks when you have no idea what your favourite dish is! I’m still trying to figure out what I ate last time! The other downfall is that it’s not a place you can spend hours talking and eating with your friends. Once you finish eating you are expected to leave, even though the staff will never tell you to leave, if there are people waiting(which there usually are) it’s impolite to make them wait for your conversation to dry up. Overall if you love sushi this is definitely the place to go. The food is like biting into heaven(although I haven’t tried anything raw yet, so if you’re game enough then I applaud your efforts!). I am yet to try better tasting sushi than the Sushi Train.

Compared to the Sushi Train in Chinatown, I am starting to prefer this branch more and more each time I visit it. Located just outside the city on Port Raod, the Welland Sushi Train is more spacious and has a calmer less busy atmosphere compared to their CBD counterpart. When you walk in, don’t get shocked when the staff their yell out in Japanese to greet you. They are all very friendly and attentive in order to help you find a seat either in a booth or on stools as quickly as possible. In the past, Sushi Train would normally hire primarily Japanese staff however at this Sushi Train I saw for the first time an Australian guy working the counter. He like the rest of the staff was very polite and friendly and was also very tall from what I remember. Anyway, before I digress, for me Sushi Train is a form of healthy fast food. You walk in, you sit down and within the space of a minute so you can set up your tray of soy sauce and wasabi you can start eating. Some of the dishes I will normally get are Sashimi, which is sliced raw salmon and Okonomiyaki, which is a kind of savoury japanese pancake. If the dish you want is not on the train, you can order with the staff who are making the food right in front of you. I go to them quite regularly when I’m in that area and having lunch and they are usually my second choice if i’m not feeling like Yam Cha on that day. There is plenty of parking outside their restaurant(which is another plus as well), so you don’t have to drive circles to find parking as what I would normally do in Chinatown. If you’re in a rush and have a craving for sushi, head on up to Welland.

Love, love, love sushi and this is a great local addition to the Welland shopping centre. Always busy especially amongst the lunch set, also open for dinner and very popular for families on the weekends, a very enjoyable and fun place to eat. A huge central island kitchen where the food is prepared and encased with a conveyor belt driven train without the choo, choo going round to service the booth seating adjacent. Adding to the excitement as the tasty morsels are paraded by simply lift off the one or few that take your fancy and eat, the booths are waited on so be sure to order a drink to wash it all down. The desserts are not bad and worth a try. I haven’t had a miss yet, it’s all tasty. Dishes are priced via the coloured plates your meal is on and there are no surprises how much you will pay as there is a chart on the wall. An interesting quirky thing they do upon you leaving is the centre crew all yell out goodbye in Japanese(so no they’re not cursing and swearing at you)! Open seven days a week so there is no need to go cold turkey, get your fix from 11.00am — 9.30pm everyday.
