Chalk & Cheese has positioned itself brilliantly as the only bottle-o(bottlo? Why is this so easy to say but so hard to spell comfortably?) in a strip of BYO restaurants. SOCLEVER. Not only does it have that going for it, but it also has an exceptional range of wines. I’ve never once been disappointed with a bottle I’ve bought at Chalk & Cheese. They regularly have specials that bring«just a bit too expensive» wines down to «I guess I could swing that» prices, and I can’t resist the siren call of a beautiful wine label — you’ll find those in spades here. The beer and cider selections, while small, still manage to cover a decent range. There’s usually something delicious on special in the beer fridge, whether local or imported, e.g. Lucky 6-packs were on special for $ 10 all summer, Grolsch is enjoying a current $ 10 run. Chalk & Cheese were stocking Rekorderlig before it was cool, too. Spirits are a little overpriced, so don’t bother stocking up on those here, but for beer, cider and wine — this is the place. Grab a bottle next time you dine in at Quan Thanh.

Chalk & Cheese is conveniently located on the strip of BYO restaurants littering Hardgrave road and is a welcome addition to the mix. I’ve stopped by here for cheap bottles of wine to complement dinner, as well as gifts for friends and parents of friends, so there are classier options for picky drinkers and wine connoisseurs. Chalk & Cheese is also one of the few bottle shops I know of in Brisbane that stocks Napoleone & Co, which is a delicious, dry cider that Crosstown Eating House serves up and I’ve been struggling to find since… until Chalk & Cheese delivered!

I’d like to think the guy who discovered that wine and cheese are a fricken delicious duo has a statue erected somewhere in Europe. The Chalk and Cheese continue their homage by creating a lovely bottle shop-cum-deli. While perusing the best red for your night, this little place also offers cheese, crackers, olives and all sorts of deli goodness to complement that meal. Situated along the bustling hardgrave road, this place is also ideal for picky up a cheeky bottle while dining at any of the great restaurants nearby.
