I am on a continuous search for the best pizza. If it’s on a menu, I’m going to order a pizza. Now, don’t judge me, but I like a margarita, maybe with a bit of chilli to spice things up.(haha) The last time I went to GSG, I was just in for a quick lunch, but it was awesome. We were greeted by friendly staff, all who were smiling and laughing amongst each other, which I just think gives a venue a really nice feel, it’s like walking into someone’s kitchen for dinner. Firstly, I love the décor there. I like the wood and the openness of the venue, that you are always surrounded by other people eating. So when I saw pizza, I felt even more at home and I delved in. There are many things that make a good pizza, but one thing I look for — and this isn’t a weird reflection of my vanity — is how the pizza looks. If the pizza looks ugly, you know it’s gonna taste bad. Tell me I’m wrong? Thankfully, their pizza looked bloody good. So good, that my two lunch dates decided they wanted some too. Now, I’m no Joey Tribiani, but when two people want to have some of my pizza, I’m almost half a pizza down, and I don’t think that’s a fair deal, especially when the pizza tastes as good as the slices that GSG are serving up. The mix between crispy, thin and light and fluffy is hard to achieve, but they’ve done it! The edge of the crust was like a pillow and the middle was thin and only just managed to hold the cheese and sauce on top. The sauce was smooth with a perfect balance of garlic, herbs and tomato acidity(something that no matter what I try, I can’t seem to achieve) and there was the perfect amount of cheese. I do not understand how people can make pizza so well. All I want is someone to teach me! But alas, I am too busy eating pizza at different restaurants, that i’m too full to learn at home. I digress. So on top of their wonderful pizza, I need to discuss their service. Their staff are wonderful. Attentive, knowledgeable and nice. That’s pretty rare these days, unfortunately. Paired with a wonderful white wine and some great conversation(although a little tense due to the pizza stealing incident), it was a wonderful afternoon. Big ups to these guys and I will be going to explore the rest of the menu, that is IF I can get past the pizza.
