Went for the half price burger special on Wednesdays. Really appreciated that they give you a side of onion rings alongside the usual chips and the burger. Food tasted good and there was a lot of choices on the menu from steak, salads, sandwiches and ribs. Keen to come back and try something else next time.

A few friends and I were planning to catch up on Wednesday this week and one of them suggested to give a place called Apache Spur a try. There was extra incentive to go too since every Wednesday all burgers on the menu were half price! Apache Spur is located on the upper level of the Willeton shopping complex right next to Hoyts and is quite hard to miss. As the name implies, the venue is decked out in a native American Apache tribe motif from the wall paintings, tomahawk ornaments and teepees as lights. The menu has quite a selection to choose from across salads, sandwiches, steaks and burgers. I was ready for a challenge that night and ordered the Hunga Busta Stacked Burger. The burger was thick but wasn’t difficult to eat compared to other stacked burgers. What I particularly enjoyed was that while it was juicy, it wasn’t too juicy so that the bun became soggy. It came with a generous side of crunchy chips and onion rings. For half price this meal was definitely worth it and I was satisfied. There’s plenty of seating available for any size group and I’m keen to try their other offerings sometime. Spur is a great option if you’re hungry before catching a movie at Hoyts or just want to catch up with friends. Good food with lots to offer.

Am really disappointed in this place. I’ve been here several times end its been hit and miss. I came on Halloween night last time with a friend as I was so hungry and it looked so nice I forgot to take a photo! The staff are friendly and check on you quite a bit, the place is clean and the menu varied. Last time I came my burger was delicious and so were the fries and my friend had the slimmers steak and it looked great and my friend said it was tasty too. Tonight the fries were under cooked, the burger was drowned in sauce and a little bit pink in the middle. My special order burger came out right(no ranch sauce, onion or tomato) which was good but the waitress also wrote down no fried side onion but the plate came out with it still. Not a huge issue but just a waste as I didn’t touch it at all. On a previous occasion I ordered these cheesy fries and whilst they looked nice they were only average. It was half price burger Wednesday which I was glad for as the burger was less than average. I will give this place one more try and if it’s a miss again I most likely won’t be back.

It’s a «family restaurant» so I was surprised to find my steak was cooked quite well. The best feature is the kids play area with a cubby, toys and video games. Enough to keep them occupied between trips back to the table to top up on food. Don’t go on a date here(unless you’re tying to break up with someone), but if you have kids and want to be able to go out for a meal and would like to be left to have a conversation with an adult, or play candy crush, it’s worth a visit.

My partner and I stopped past after seeing an early movie, and the theming did look interesting, so we thought we’d give it a go. We were seated by a friendly staff member and had a bit of a look of the menu — there is a wide range available including the usual dishes you would expect to see at a steakhouse, salads, burgers, chicken and for some very strange reason — snails(which we were a little too skeptical to try). The staff were very efficient the whole way through our dining experience — orders taken promptly, drinks delivered soon after, someone came out to apologise for the wait, and I honestly didn’t think it was a very long wait at all for our mains to come out. Unfortunately when they did, I was decidedly underwhelmed with what arrived. The steak was nice and tender and does come with a very flavoursome basting, but presentation was significantly lacking, with a sad salad off to the side, some oily and unappetising onion rings sitting at the top of the plate, a steak and a boiled potato with some packet butter to the side. I paid extra for the mushroom sauce that was delivered separately also. I think the pricing is on the high side for what you get — it reminds me a lot of sizzler, with a higher price tag attached. It does seem like it would be a great place to take the kids after a movie — there is an on-site play centre, soft serve ice cream and a lot of fun theming. It was interesting to try once, I don’t think I’ll be back.

This is the second ‘first review’ I missed by a week or so. =P This is also my first review in awhile. I’ve been a bit busy, & a bit lazy. Last night though, I went out with my girlfriend & siblings to watch the new X-men at Southlands. We heard about this new ribs place from a friend of my sisters, & so of course we decided to dine there before the movie. Well lets kick things off with the good. The serving portions were massive. Granted they’re not the cheapest, but for the price you pay, you get a very generous serving of meat. I ordered the rib platter for $ 49.95, which boasted that it was«over 1kg!» When it was served, it did not disappoint. Half a baby pig, & half a dozen beef ribs greeted me, with a side of fries & fired onions. No salad? No problem. Over the course of dining, I did try to shift a few ribs left & right to my sister & girlfriend. I still struggled to finish the food, & gave up with two pieces of pork ribs, & a couple of fries left. I decided against trying to stuff it all down, seeing as I wanted to stay awake during the movie. My girlfriend ordered the 250g spur fillet, & couldn’t finish it, even though I had a few bites. Luckily my sister is a machine & she finished it off. My brother ordered a full rack of ribs at $ 39.95, & also needed help from my sis. I guess it was a good thing that my sis didn’t actually order a main then. =P We also ordered the garlic snails, mostly because we were curious & it seemed like a good novelty. It wasn’t bad at all, but I wouldn’t miss it if I never ate it again. Like the previous review, it was drenched in so much garlic butter that it just looked like it was soaking in oil. Next time I might try the poppers or shrooms instead. I’m not in a hurry to go back there though, maybe before another movie, another time. Having lots of food is only really awesome if it tastes really good, & in this case, it was passable but nothing that excited me. Ribs for ribs, I’d stick with Tony Romas, even though the portions are smaller. The steak was actually really well cooked. The medium rare was indeed rare in the middle, probably because the serve of steak was a thick & juicy piece of beef. Flavour wise, it was pretty standard char grilled meat. The pepper sauce reminded me of the smell of calamine lotion. Not what I’d usually want for a pepper sauce. We also had the mushroom sauce, which was much better, having actual chunks of mushroom. The most disappointing part of this establishment however, is the wait staff management. Granted, we were all really hungry when we got there, but I’m taking that into consideration. Firstly, I think that zoning is a pretty stupid idea if you’re not flexible about it. The purpose of zoning is to make sure that there is a wait staff available at all times to every corner of the restaurant, & not to tell the customers«I will ask your waitress to come & take your order» even though she’s busy at the moment taking orders at another table, & there were another 3 waitresses who were not. Right. Also, when you ask for a bottle of water, the logical thing to do would be to go grab a bottle of water for the table, & not to key it into the system to place an order to the kitchen so that they can send someone out with a bottle of water 10 minutes later. Just no. Most of the staff there seemed very young & had little experience in customer service. Having a few older staff at a bit more than minimal wage would do wonders if that means that there is someone on the floor managing the floor. All in all, this place has plenty of potential to improve quite easily and significantly, that could make more of an impact, but if they’re not vigilant about it soon, it could just slip to a very average and overpriced dining experience in the middle of a suburb shopping district.

I always thought, if I have nothing nice to say don’t say… Well… Okay, today we came to Apache Spur to have a catch up with girlfriends. The four of us arrived on time & was promptly seated. The first wait staff came & gave us our menus. Came back quickly & took orders for drinks. At that time, my friend wanted garlic snails. BUT, don’t think she placed the order & left. Another wait staff came back with drinks & we asked him to check if the entrees orders were placed. No it hasn’t so we quickly ordered as by that time, we were hungry. We ordered garlic snails & jalapeño poppers. Entrees came, I was likely the snails but not impressed with them soaking in oil(that’s just me). Cut into the jalapeño poppers & guess what? NOJALAPEÑO! What??? Jalapeño poppers & no jalapeño at all? It’s only crumbed cheese. Immediately called for the waitress & she said, shall I take it back to the kitchen & ask? As if she knew something isn’t right… Came back 3 mins later & said they ran out of jalapeño. OK, this isn’t right!!! If there’s no jalapeño, they should advise their customer & not«deceive» by just sneaking something else on the table!!! We voiced it & she(the waitress) say there’s no charge!!! Hello of cause I’m not paying for something that isn’t even there to start with!!! Plus, we only took 3⁄5 pieces. She took the 2 pieces back to the kitchen. NOTIMPRESSED. Mains came. We all were quiet. Good sign. Steak was cooked medium rare. It had time to rest. Cooked to the way I like. Cheddarmelt looks like 2 pieces of wrapped cheese slapped on the steak & serve to the table. Mmmm… Ribs & wings were apparently finger licking good. Might try it IF I ever go back again. Desserts were ok. Not fabulous. Overall, we were there from 2’ish till 7pm. Yes we had lots of chatting up to do. The earlier wait staff were pretty lost at what they were doing. Later, we were served by a more senior lady(I assumed she’s a manager). We asked if we needed to leave? She explained to us we only needed to go if the dinner crowd arrives & would inform us 10mins prior. I thought that was professional. By 7pm, we left. Only 3 stars coz they cooked my steak well. Minus 1 star for poor wait staff. Minus another 1 for not telling us re missing jalapeños. Would I recommend my friends to go there? Mmmm… naaaa…
