This is has got to be the best Indian I have ever tasted! I went to this place not too long after going to India after which even the smell of curry made me feel nauseous, but when I tried the food here my feelings about curry made a 180 degree turn. The inside décor isn’t anything to speak of but the staff are quite friendly and the while the food didn’t come all that quickly it was well worth the wait. I had the masala dosa with rogan josh, another curry and Dahl. It was all incredibly delicious! Also the mango lassi’s were very nice and reasonably priced. The food was typically priced for Indian food which isn’t cheap but this was definitely worth it. Highly recommended!

Went here the other night for our committee end of year dinner based on the recommendation of some locals. Lovely restaurant, good food and a nice atmosphere. The food is an Indian/Malay style combo with a delicious mix of curries. My Lamb Rendang was beautiful as were everyone elaes curries I got to taste. We had the rice, paratha and naan served for the table and there was more than enough food. I don’t think anyone managed to eat all their curry! Added bonus as a local restaurant this place is BYO so helps keep it a cheaper night out.

This little Indian place is tucked away in Willetton, and I was expecting more of a strip mall kind of vibe. Instead, we found a very charming restaurant. There was very nice ambiance. well-decorated with a sort of romantic, nice vibe. The music was fun()a mix of bollywood and pop), which made conversation slightly harder(in addition to enormous tables that have you sitting quite a ways apart from dinner companions. The only bit of the décor that didn’t quite fit in was the«bon appetit» sign over the bar. Service was a bit on the slow side, but very friendly. Food was fairly tasty. We had the Medhu Vadai for the entrée, which my partner enjoyed but wasn’t quite to my taste.(Probably more due my lack of appreciation of fried foods than the dish itself.) The palak paneer was good and the spice level was nice for me, but I would have labeled it as medium instead of mild(as indicated in the menu)…so fair warning to anyone who really can’t handle spice! We also had the chili coriander naan and gulab jamun(nice presentation!) for dessert. Prices were fairly standard. Overall, we enjoyed the evening. Pleasantly surprised by the lovely atmosphere and pretty standard Indian fare.

This place has recently gone through a modern refurbishment and I think that techniques in their quality of meals has improved significantly too. They cater between South/North Indian and Malaysian delights. We love the Prawn Masala and the Lamb Rendang and keep coming back for more. Takeaway is really cheap and cheerful too.

I have to say I’m a little mystified at the widespread acclaim elsewhere about Samsons. Located at the obscure side of a local shopping plaza on Apsley Road, it looks nice enough from the outside — rather high-end in fact when you consider the location. The people inside were friendly enough, though as a take away customer it felt a little weird to have to wind my way through tables toward the back of the restaurant to place my order. The prices were decent enough, but my first major gripe is that the menu is severely limited. Many Indian staples are absent and there’s not a single paneer dish to be found. Even worse, what sort of establishment calls itself an Indian restaurant and doesn’t sell naan? I had to make do with some thin, greasy substitute, the name of which I cannot recall; it was altogether unsatisfactory as an alternative. The lack of naan would have been OK if I had been overly pleased with the dish that I ordered — I am a fiend for a good butter chicken, so the prospect of finding it available reasonably nearby was exciting. Unfortunately, Samson’s butter chicken failed to live up to my expectations. It looks like butter chicken… the sauce looks right, the chicken is clearly of good quality… the taste just isn’t right. I found it almost cloyingly sweet. I know that butter chicken usually has a bit of sugar in it to add a little tang and contrast, but this was just over the top. If I had to describe the taste I would liken it to if a fairly good butter chicken had somehow got mixed in with several tablespoons of Chinese sweet and sour sauce. Even though it looked like butter chicken, the whole thing had a Chinese fast food taste to it, and a particularly sickly aftertaste that I didn’t enjoy. It was all wrong in this context. I think Samson’s is a place with a lot of potential. Perhaps some of their other offerings are better than their butter chicken and perhaps I just got a dodgy batch that was loaded with sugar — even so, the lack of menu variety means that I’m unlikely to give them another shot.
