Unilocal has a drop down that asks about attire. At 8 am on a weekday at this place the attire is that stuff that women wear now that looks like gym gear that has made some women into multi millionaires. Lulu Lemon or Lorna something. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Coffee is superb.

Consistently excellent coffee with friendly, efficient staff. Good quality food with lots of interesting variety. Always busy and they deserve to be!

I love Dose! They do an excellent coffee, i’ve had the cold drip, the iced latte, and just a regular latte. The iced latte is the perfect mix of milk, coffee and ice. No nasty sugary extras. Also, the price is just right, from memory it was $ 4.50 or something around that. My only issue with this place is the waiting area for take aways, it feels like you are in the way of other patrons, and the staff. I get a little awkward while I wait, so I found that I could take a seat near the counter or wait outside. My way around this is using beat the q app. Order before I get there, run in and grab my coffee and go. It works well!

I have been coming to Dose Espresso on and off for years now, and I have rarely walked in on a quiet day. This café is always pumping. Whether it is the school mums that seem to call this place home as part of their daily ritual, or the weekend rush, this is not the café to come to if you want it to yourself. So why do they keep coming back? Dose has always been well staffed with attentive and friendly people who actually look like they enjoy being here. And while on occasion they move on and open their own cafes(as in the case of Ritual), the vibe seems to stay the same. As for the coffee, over the time that I’ve been coming here the coffee has not only gotten more consistent, it has improved. Some of the single origin coffees that come through will surprise you, while the house blend is well out of the«commercial» zone. All in all, if you are in the area, this is a great spot to check out. With single origin coffees always on hand, and the occasional cold drip, there should be something for everyone. Passion: 9⁄10 Crema: 9⁄10 Coffee: Gabriel Coffee

How did daggy, boring old Willoughby(long may she reign!) get a café that could and should be in the trendiest part of Surry Hills? The only thing I can think of is the owners got kicked out of the 2010 for some reason and aren’t allowed back in the eastern suburbs. Nothing happens in this part of the world, and yet here’s Dose with it’s intricate curly-glass cold drip apparatus and single origin blends and hipster-baristas and brass pipes and designer light globes with intricate, burning filaments. And it’s packed! People love them some coffee, and they love them some cool. The menu is brekky & brunch focused, and there’s gluten free bread and things like Avocado & Vegemite(ehh, maybe next time) and fancy pants healthy things and tasty things and it’s 35 degrees so it was all about the cold drip of the day, which comes in a small glass milk bottle with a bourbon tumbler filled with ice. More like this please.

4-stars for the coffee. For me, it’s the right temperature and strength. Food options looked generous and tempting. If I could add a star for the hot factor of the Barista, I would!

Again, stalking James F and his suggestions for coffee, I decided to drop by Dose Espresso for brunch. And as everyone said before me, you will be fighting the other people who come here to try to find a table. This is a hipster place, so yes, you will be sharing tables with other people. The coffee here is good, but they change their blends — so it depends on your luck. But these guys love coffee. Even though I did not instigate it, I was informed which blend I should use for my macchiatto. And their suggestion was spot on. The food here is also quite good. It is on the healthier side, which is fantastic. And they have a few more vegetarian options than other places. But if you are feeling on the more bad side try the cinnaemon scrolls, so bad but so good.

Hidden out the back of the shops, this eclectic caffeine dealer has a nice feel — and lots of the good is paleo friendly if that is your thing. The food is nice but I gotta say, 12 bucks for a sambo is pretty steep, even if it is a great one tied together with a piece of string. Lots of creative stuff to eat and very good coffee. Generally chocker on the weekend so be prepared that you may not get a table right away depending on timing, and that after you manage to find the rare-as-rockinghorse-droppings park in the area. Recommended.

We’ve only been here once, but the experience was great. It’s packed to the brim with parents and kids on the weekend, but we still managed to snag ourselves a relatively quiet corner without too much smell and noise. The coffee was sublime when we tried it, enough to have two. Lovely selection of pastries which are awesome looking — we ate breakfast here as well and were happy with the experience. We don’t come northside very often so we probably wont be back — but recommended!

Yay! At last, some really really good coffee on the North Shore. I found this place a couple of months ago and keep running into people who I know are coffee freaks there also… a good sign, although I had tried to keep it quiet a bit longer! The food is good — they receive several deliveries in the mornings from home cooks — great muffins, fruit and walnut loaf and their egg and bacon sarnie has cracking tomato relish! The coffee is really good — they roast their own and I know they supply my second favourite coffee place in the area with beans too. They are a very welcome addition to the northside coffee scene!

Dropped in briefly to pick up some lunch today. Didn’t get a chance to try the coffee but nice to have that Melbourne backstreet charm. I got a prosciutto sandwich which appeared to be a lot bigger in the display cabinet and waited 10 min for a toasting. Great sandwich though. A business partner got the boiled chicken and said it was also great, he found the place accidentally a couple of weeks before not a bad find for the area, which is lacking in this style of café.

I’m pleased to see the North Shore catching up with a bit of coffee scene — my impression so far is that(with the exception of a few places around Crows Nest) you have to cross the bridge to get a really good coffee. However a recent plug in the SMH suggested this place, so I thought I would head over and check it out. I’m obviously not the first person to discover it(did the SMH review give that away?), but I was surprised to see I am apparently the first Unilocaler(although the urbanspoon crowd seem to have discovered this in droves!). So, first of all, the coffee: Coffee: Double macchiato Bean: Not sure, I believe they do their own custom blends and single origins Crema: Nice, thick. 7⁄10 Overall Taste: Unusual taste, slightly sweet 7.5÷10 Served in: Small espresso cup(+1) Preparation: Reasonably well made, nice amount of milk, a little bubbly The café itself is a nice place to chill out, small tables and communal benches can be found inside and out, the café itself has large open doors /windows so the entire area has a nice buzz to it. I love the vibe created by the exposed brickwork and funky artwork, the twisting copper pipe for the water tap is a nice touch. On a sunny day it would be a great place to chill… I didn’t check if they had wifi, but if they did it would be a great place to come and work for a few hours. The menu seemed quite reasonable, I didn’t order anything, but the muffins and snacks at the counter looked about what I would expect from a place like this.
