Their portions are huuuuuge! I had a nice mushroom burger with a huge bowl of fries for a good price. Last time I visited there, it was the Easter holiday and a Saturday but the café was still not that busy. That didn’t stop staff to be grumpy though. I don’t know why but they weren’t happy and interested. Anyway, good food!!!

Staff seem angry, got the mushroom and goats cheese on toast very very small amount of goats cheese both the waiter and I couldn’t even see it until the chef told him there was a tiny bit wiped on the bottom of one poached egg. Unfortunately this is my first and last experience with yellow bird

Great food and cool urban environment. One of the reasons I like it so much is because it doesn’t treat Mexican food like a gourmet novelty and is therefore reasonably priced. While I love the music, it’s loud so don’t expect to be able to comfortably carry on a conversation.

Been here a million times. Always pretty great. Had a few very average meals but usually good, cheap food. The Death Benedict is a great cure for a hangover. The Ruben sandwich is pretty great too Service with a smile or a few nice words here or there wouldn’t go astray but I suppose the whole too cool for school vibe is all part of it.

If you are looking for THEBEST place to meet, eat, drink along the Windsor end of Chapel St, come straight down to Yellow Bird. Their menu is excellent, the seating comfortable, and the coffee is really good. I often think about visiting the other cafes in Chapel St that I have been to in the past, but I always come back to Yellow Bird.

My favourite Chapel Street breakfast place. Great food, great service, great location.

Can’t speak for the food as I was only there for drinks, but even so this place gets high marks. There is a Mexican theme that reminds me of funky bars in Tucson and the walls are plastered with posters from indie and punk shows, The music was great and the staff was friendly and competent. In addition to a great selection of bottled Mexican beer and Melbourne Bitter long necks, they also made some decent cocktails like a dark and stormy. Prices are pretty good for a popular Chapel Street bar. I will have to go back and try the food.

One of my favourite spots on chapel street. Friendly staff, good food and coffee. That’s all I’m looking for and Yellow bird usually delivers. I say usually because every now and then we get served by a girl who really looks like she hates her job. It ruins the vibe of the place. Overall Yellow bird has everything I’m looking for in a nice basic restaurant. Nothing flash but we usually have a good time.

This place is actually the best. Really friendly staff(sometimes a rare find in Melbourne), yummy coffee, cool environment, and tasty food… my favourite brunch destination on Chapel by far.

Have been to Yellow Bird a few times now, once for their Tijuana Tuesday, and once for brunch. Awesome food, friendly staff, good coffee, and a fun atmosphere. Def recommend this place for both brunch and dinner.

Please don’t complain about the volume of music — we like it loud here. Good music, good food and drinks with a Mexican twist #justsaying

This place has always been consistent over the years, a rare thing indeed. If you can open a restaurant and not change anything about it over three four years and still be popular with the locals you’re onto a good thing. If you haven’t changed anything over the ten years, and you are still popular… you have Yellow Bird.

Somewhere you can get a massive meal and a beer for $ 20? Yellow Bird will have you sorted. Tijuana Tuesday is a busy night to be here, but it’s a fun atmosphere with people trying to scarf down huge plates of nachos and burritos stuffed with salsa. The beers are cheap, the Bloody Mary’s may kill you(in a good way — honest!) and while the food isn’t going to be the most exciting thing you eat all week(for me, the prawn tacos lacked seasoning and could have used a good dose of lime, chilli and coriander) but it’s fun, casual and will mean you can buy an extra round of drinks and stick around to make eyes at the hot guys and girls sitting on the nearby tables.

This is a ripper of a café and bar if you’re planning a fun-filled evening of grunge. It’s hip, relaxed and casual with alcoholic beverages plentiful, consisting of a Mexican pub-grub menu with Tuesday being ‘Tijuana Tuesday’ if you’re looking for good, super cheap Mexican food. You’ll find all of the classics on the menu: Chilli fries, nachos, fajitas and burritos all served in abundance, and great for sharing over drinks with your friends, but BEWARNED — King Size nachos seriously mean King Size! Yellow Bird also put on a super cheap breakfast spread! I probably wouldn’t suggest taking your grandma here for brunch, because it’s not the prettiest décor, and the toilets are something you’d come across at a music venue, but the food is a-ok for a bar, so don’t walk away without ordering at least the wedges! Jump on your bike and ride down to Yellow Bird for some afternoon drinks and comfort food.

Great atmosphere, food and prices(in that order). Tijuana Tuesdays are good, but there is some pretty solid fare on the other nights as well. My favourites are the Yellow Bird chilli burger and the roast pumpkin and green bean salad. The veggie burger is also ok, though a bit heavy so don’t get it if you’re hankering for something healthy. As far as drinks go, if you like it hot definitely try the spicy bloody Mary — one of the best in the city, though be prepared for it to dissolve your stomach lining.

The first time I came to Yellow Bird was actually a little bit of an odd occasion, I stopped in for breakfast after quite a big night out. Feeling rather peckish after quite a few rounds of beers I ordered the Ave Amarilla; Corn fritters stacked with guacamole, salsa, sour cream, rocket and a poached egg. That definitely hit the spot, we also couldn’t pass up ordering the cleverly named Green Eggs and Ham. Not knowing exactly what would be presented we were pleasantly surprised when presented with a huge plate of scrambled eggs with house-made pesto, ham and freshly shaved Grana Padano on sour dough. Heaven! Yellow Bird is also great for dinner and drinks, on Tuesday nights they have $ 5 Corona’s for their Mexican themed night Tijuana Tuesday’s. There is also a selection of corresponding Mexican dishes as well fruity Margaritas.

This establishment is an old Chapel street favourite. I think it’s been here as long as Chapel Street. It used to be one of my favourite restaurants on the strip, until I realised I started to feel a bit sick from the food. I do have a very sensitive stomach though so don’t let that discourage you. Let’s just say the grunge of the place probably continues onto the kitchen. If you’re not going for their huge portions of food, Tuesday Mexican fiesta, big all-day breakfasts, or amazingly plush jam donuts, then you can stay for the relaxed drinking atmosphere that extends onto the footpath. They have a range of great drinks — a well stocked bar. The staff there are usually really chilled, friendly people, always in the know about new and tasty drinks. It’s just a great place to both start and end your night.

Tijuana Tuesdays is how I was introduced to Yellow Bird… Ordered the Mexican Super Bowl: A layered bowl of arroz, frijole beans, guacamole, house-made salsa, shredded lettuce and topped with sour cream and coriander with spicy mince beef $ 15 A-mazing. Would go back again just for that.

Yellow Bird… yo te quiero! Seriously, I love you at breakfast time, with your diverse menu and awesome corn fritters. I love you at lunchtime, when you have a range of latino-eque dishes on your menu and TWO types of burger. And I also love you for understanding when I need to get in shape for summer, and have at least four salads on offer. I love you for coffee, sitting out in your outdoor area people watching. I love you in the evenings, when I want a non-pretentious place to have a beer and stare at weird artwork and fake floral arrangement. Thanks for being you. xx
