This is one of the neater and newer of the fish and chip takewaways along Wynnum Esplanade. Prices are pretty standard and I haven’t found one shop that’s a stand out for value, though there are others at the Manly end of the strip that are definitely dearer. Cod’s always cheap but but respectable, or you can pay two or three dollars more for whiting, snapper or other reef fish. Opposite a nice part of the foreshore, it’s so good to grab a paper wrapped bundle of fish, chips and potato scallops and head for the grassy strip under the pine trees across the road. You’ll be far enough away from the wading pool and kids playgrounds to find some peace and quiet, yet close enough to go for a nice stroll out along Wynnum jetty to work a few of those chips.

My rule still stands, the fish and chips from a place with a view of the ocean is always going to be better than the rest. So it really does stand out to me when I order food from a fish and chip place and it tastes particularly good, which is what my experience here was. Maybe it was what I ordered? First time lucky? But even if it was luck, maybe you will get lucky too. They make homemade potato scallops here, and the grilled sea perch really took my fancy. It was tasty, not over salty, not over grilled and dry… it was moist and it was fresh. The meat was bouncy yay! The crumbed cod was your average fair, but it was still good and the calamari rings were very very good. They weren’t too huge and they weren’t over deep fried and too crispy. They were fresh and they were cooked just right. And we order them all the time at other fish and chip places… these ones stood out as well. The servers are really gracious and friendly, and I prices are the same as your usual fish and chips. If you’re in Manly, go check them out, best I’ve tasted in a while!
