Sunday morning breakfast should be lazy. No rush, no stress just easy. We drove to Hyde Out to check it out and I was surprised to find it bare except for one other couple when we arrived. Even by suburban café standards, it was quiet. I was surprised because usually once the suburban newbies are uncovered in various e-newsletters, there’s a mass flocking to visit them. I should say it was a pleasant surprise. We had the choice of pretty much which ever table we liked and we opted for one in the back of the café. Shortly after sitting our menus were provided and coffee(Bellaroma) orders taken. Tick. The menu is a tidy one page affair and includes all the usuals — pancakes(with caramel sauce and banana), eggs, fruit toast, and a few rotating specials. Our coffees(two flat whites) were delivered as our orders were taken. The coffee is strong and easy to drink but not noticeably stand out. Think of it as an every man blend. I opted for one of the specials — a breakfast salad with poached eggs. It was lovely and light. The perfect healthy breakfast of roast capsicum, mushroom, feta, rocket and 2 poached eggs. It was more than filling and paired with the banana, orange and mint smoothie(dairy free and served in the on-trend mason jar and I was left curious why it then also comes atop a plate?) I was more than satisfied. So much so I asked for remainder of my smoothie to be poured into a take-away cup to take with me. They happily obliged. Can I just say the staff were wonderful throughout our entire breakfast. Regularly(but not over bearingly) asking if they could get us anything more. Also serving dinner and hosting live music each Sunday I feel, for locals, this is a place that slowly builds momentum throughout the day. Certainly by the time we left there were more people heading in for breakfast. Breakfast for two came to $ 45.

I may be swayed by the proximity to home but this funky little restaurant is a winner for me. Good service, amazing pork belly, great beer list(including craft beers on tap), cocktails and something I haven’t tried yet but wine on tap as well. Definitely going back and making this my new local!
