Würde uns als die Kultstätte des Schnitzel beschrieben… ja das Schnitzel war gut und groß, allerdings nicht das beste, welches ich vor Ort gegessen habe. Zur Hauptzeit bietet es sich an zu reservieren. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Mann kann sich das Schnitzel auch teilen, wie wir es gemacht haben. Dazu gab es einen großen und leckeren Salat (endlich mal ein Salat ohne braune Ränder).

Firstly you’ve gotta have a reservation. Call ahead or try it on your 2^nd day. Their Schnitzel is the size of Godzilla’s left eye ball but it’s pretty good. The only better one is in Hallstatt’Bacht´s Polreich but that’s a little out of the way. Once your in the reserved interaction with the staff melts away and they treat you with kid gloves.

This place is an institution in Vienna and I find myself coming here on every visit. It is especially a good place to bring friends who have never been here, as the food, ambiance and history are all incredible.
First of all, either book a table or be prepared for a line and a wait. And be aware that there are 2 Figlmüller’s here, both are great, but I prefer the original location as it’s more historic.
The Schnitzel is as awesome as advertised, and the potato salad is divine as well. The servers seem a bit brusk, but the turnover is huge and the place is busy. Although I have found that the waiters always try to be friendly even though you know they area bit overwhelmed.
Beer is cold and good as well!
If you want an authentic Weinerschnitzel in an old school and traditional atmosphere, this is the place and you will not be disappointed.

Eine Institution in Wien nicht nur für Schnitzelliebhaber, die man besucht haben sollte. Wer allerdings hier wohnt und nicht zu Besuch ist, hat genügend Alternativen, die ohne Touristenschlange und Warterei auskommen.

Fantastic traditional style Austrian restaurant which specializes in fried breaded pork and veal and boiled meat. The Wiener Schnitzel was delicious and not greasy at all. The boiled meat was great and served with shredded potatoes and horseradish. Both dishes were tasty and savory. Well worth the calories. The star of the evening was the unbelievably good potato salad. The choices of wine were also tremendous and reasonably priced for the quality. The service was great and the atmosphere was incredible.

Man sollte ja immer vorsichtig sein, wenn ein Restaurant viele gute Bewertungen bekommt und bei Touristen schwer angesagt ist. Ich muss aber sagen, dass ich noch nie vorher ein so gutes Wiener Schnitzel (Kalb bestellen) gegessen habe. Einzigartiger Geschmack und genau richtig. Dazu ein fixer und freundlicher Service. Kann ich uneingeschränkt weiter empfehlen.

This place is ridiculously good! Do not be misled by the number of Asian tourists that come here, because they know where all the good food is at!
I came here on a weekday around noon. The place is tugged away in an alley, but you will recognize its signature green exterior.
I ordered the Tafelspitz, which literally translates to «boiled beef.» The meat came in a green pot (again, the green theme) and was in broth with some veggies. The beef was nice and soft in texture, with the right ratio of meat to fat. The broth was surprisingly flavorful and I drank that baby up to the last drop!
The dish comes with a potato salad with two sauces on the side. Additionally, I ordered an Almdudler, which is a non-​alcoholic drink (pacing myself) that tastes like the equivalent of American ginger ale.
I remembered a party being turned away when they arrived around 12:20pm — that is ridiculous considering it opens at noon! My advice then is to come right at noon, or at least make a reservation beforehand, because it does get packed! I did not have the Wiener Schnitzel, but that beast was larger than the plate it came on when I saw it brought to the party next to me!

Tried the schnitzel here based on Unilocal and Tripadvisor. Schnitzel was massive as everyone said and was delicious. Server was nice as well.
Warning to all American/​Canadian tourists, if you just order water, they will charge you for mineral water here and not tap.

Uniquely huge, thin Wiener Schnitzel. This is veal, so it’s the Real Thing.
Any stay in Vienna is incomplete without trying these. Have the recommended potato salad with lambs tail and the dark green nutty Styrian pumpkin seed oil to go with it.
It’s good value, despite the price. They will be happy to let you wrap and take home half the Schnitzel which you could not finish …
While Wollzeile is their main entrance (and where all the tourists go), try the back entrance from the parallel street. It leads to a second restaurant but has the same kitchen. In comparison, this place is less crowded, has more tables, shorter queues, and you get to have both beer and wine.
Still, most times of the day, expect to queue unless you have reserved a table.
While the queues look daunting, they move fairly fast (at the back entrance, that is).
I recently took my octagenerian mother here. She is a real Viennese lady. I was a little surprised when she complained loudly about the Schnitzel. «Much too dry!» she exclaimed and called the waiter. After some highly entertaining back and forth, the waiter confessed.
With eyes to the ground he admitted that, yes, they now regularly dab off excess ghee «for the tourists» who don’t like it so fatty. Well, I guess modern locals also like it that way.
Still, my mother sent her Schnitzel back to the kitchen, demanding «don’t you dare dry my Schnitzel» (and she even managed to say that in a sweet endearing way…)
A Schnitzel arrived, its golden breading glistening in ghee. And oh my god was it good.
So, from then onwards, I also always demand my Schnitzel in its shiny coat, «not dried off». Most waiters immediately understand and will be happy to oblige.
Try it. Maybe follow up with a Schnapps!

I wasn’t even going to try my luck coming here following yesterday’s tip that people were getting turned away at 12.20pm yesterday and by golly, I happened to stroll past at 12.30 on my way to Mozarthaus and feeling optimistic, I asked for a table for two outdoors and lo and behold my request was granted!
We were immediately seated and given menus. No question, we had to get the Weiner schnitzel. If you’ve seen the pictures, they’re massive. Bigger than a dinner plate which I don’t think the human body should really consume in one setting.
So at the time of ordering we had beef broth with semolina dumplings to start, then got the schnitzel to share. The soup to start was very flavourful, not overly filling and really just a nice way to start the meal.
I wasn’t expecting this, but the chefs had cut out schnitzel in half before cooking and we were given them separately alongside two plates of potato salad and mixed salad (and ligonberry jam). I did ask for sides of roast potatoes and cucumber salad which I didn’t get; not sure if this was an error in communication and this translated to extra potatoes and garden salad or whether I paid for sides I didn’t get.
Now the schnitzel was delicious but one end was raw so I had to cut around it. The potato salad was yummy but it’s certainly not the best I’ve ever had. Mixed salad was crisp with a zingy dressing, really nice.
Overall a really yummy, filling meal that could have been made better if more attention had been paid.

The potato salad was the best thing I had here. The chicken schnitzel was as expected.

I stopped by here few evenings ago with my wife. Even though we were not really hungry it was our last night in Vienna and we had been wanting to try Figlmullers. We originally went to a different location only to be told that it was booked solid. So we walked the 50 or so meters to this location and walked right in. It was just before 6 pm and our total wait time was less than 5 minutes. The inside of this Figlmullers was done in lots of wood tones and they had a couple of chalkboards with menus hanging around as well as stacks of their wine up high. We ended up getting sat at a four top in the main area with the bar and so I wasn’t able to see much of the restaurant.
For dinner both my wife and I decided on have the original schnitzel. We waited about 15 minutes or so before ours came out and as I had seen in many, our schnitzels were bigger than our plates and garnished with a single lemon wedge. They were actually large enough that my wife gave up after eating only half of hers and I had to help her in finish it. I ended up enjoying the flavor of the schnitzel as the pork inside was pretty tender while the outside breading had a good flavor and crunch to it. My only wish for it was that I would had gotten more than a single lemon wedge as I really enjoyed the acidity it added to the dish.
The bottom line for me is that I would come here again in the future. It isn’t often that you get to eat at the home of some type of food and so this experience was nice from that perspective. That combined with the nice flavor of the dish makes it a must visit when in Vienna.

Since I’m in Vienna, how can I not stop by the infamous restaurant known for their wiener schnitzel. I personally really liked it, but order a side, I really liked my potato salad.
You can ask for cranberry sauce for the meat but I personally love just squeezing lemon on it. I know it may sound pretty plain but it’s a better version of a thinly pounded chicken cutlet, but I got the veal one since it’s what the restaurant is known for. I wouldn’t stray from that, but the chicken one is just as good.

Ok… Didn’t know we needed to make reservation at first then we tried with the help of the hotel staff we were staying at, we were told they were completely booked for three nights in a row and not accepting any more reservations. Determined troops to find the best Schnitzel still went and tried our chances. We got so so lucky when the maitre’d caught us by the door after realising the tardiness of the other couples soon to lose their spot for us. Oh oh and they refused multiple couples before and after that. We were there at the right time. Unfortunate for the other couples, but we had amazing Schnitzel, salad and time at this place. Thank you.

Absolute Touristenfalle! Erst wird man patzig abgewiesen wenn man keine Reservierung hat und auf die Frage ob man diese für den nächsten Tag vereinbaren könnte kriegt man die weitere patzige Antwort mit dem Inhalt «Anrufen». Ja, es ist voll oder besser gesagt überrannt gewesen, trotzdem würde ich nach so einer Abweisung normalerweise keinen Gedanken an einen 2. Versuch verschwenden aber es sollte ja sooo gut sein deshalb haben wir dann einen Tisch online (!) reserviert was auch gut funktionierte.
So haben wir uns am Tag und der Uhrzeit der Reservierung dort durch den viel zu engen Eingang an den wartenden Besucher durchgezwängt und wurden auch rasch an unseren Tisch gebracht. Ambiente war zwar schön, aber viel zu eng und laut durch die Tatsache dass das Lokal überrannt ist. Getränke und essen wurden sehr flott gebracht und waren auch OK aber «Das beste Schnitzel Wiens» war es mit Sicherheit nicht. Jegliche Beilage kostete extra und das mindestens 4 €!! Lange Geschichte kurz: Das einzig erstklassige dort waren die Preise und der Andrang der Leute. Augen auf und nicht von den ganzen positiven, und meiner Meinung nach verblendeten, Bewertungen täuschen lassen!

Figlmüller muss halt auch mal gewesen sein.
Essen ist sehr gut, Preise jedoch doch etwas teuerer.
Leider merkt man, vorallem abends, dass es ein Touristenmagnet ist und sehr voll ist bzw. die Schlange vorm Lokal steht. Als Nicht-​Tourist weiß ich noch genug andere gute Lokale in denen man Schnitzel bekommt und sie in Ruhe essen kann ;-)

Echt Top Schnitzel Liebhaber müssen das probieren, wer das versäumt ist selber schuld!

The food here is incredible. Make sure you have a reservation. Ask your waiter what the most popular is and go with what is suggested. You won’t be sorry.

Im Reiseführer als eine der Schnitzel-​Institutionen schlechthin angeprisen und ich muss sagen, wir sind absolut nicht enttäuscht worden.
Etwas versteckt in einer kleinen Gasse gelegen und so wie es aussieht, sehr, sehr beliebt und immer gut gefüllt.
Mit etwas Glück auch ohne Reservierung einen kleinen Tisch in der Nähe der Tür erwischt und schon konnte die Schnitzel-​Sause starten.
Was mich doch etwas überrascht hat, war die Tatsache, dass das eigentliche Schnitzel, welches dieses Lokal berühmt macht, eben kein Kalbsschnitzel ist, sondern eines vom Schwein. Darf ich aus Allergiegründen nicht, macht ja aber auch nix, gibt auch eins aus Hähnchenfleisch, teuflisch lecker, wahrlich…
Das Schweineschnitzel konnten wir an vielen Tischen um uns herum bewundern, gefühlt so’n Viertel Quadratmeter, reichlich «Überhangmandat» auf dem Teller, schon toll anzuschauen.
Als Beilage Erdäpfel-​Vogerl-​Salat und einmal Gurkensalat, beides toll.
Der Kellner auch wirklich sehr, sehr freundlich und umsichtig, Gastfreundschaft können sie, die Wiener.
Er hat aber unglaublich viele Interessenten wieder wegschicken müssen (oder umleiten in ein anderes Figlmüller Restaurant), weil hier bis auf den letzten Platz alles belegt war.
Eselsohr gesetzt, kommen wieder!

I didn’t have high hopes for this place given the reputation of it being a tourist joint. We queued for about 30 minutes at 8pm for a table for two. We got the mushroom soup, broth, herbed potatoes, Wiener Schnitzel, and calf liver schnitzels to share.
I am glad I didn’t get the Winer Schnitzel because it was gargantuan. Do not get your own — this is a warning! Get it to share. The schnitzel was well-​seasoned and really tender, with a very crisp outside, BUT I really enjoyed my calf liver schnitzel way more. If you like liver, this liver schnitzel is soft, creamy, not over-​fried, and has more flavor than your usual schnitzel. Lemon does the trick to make it less greasy. Unfortunately, my parsley potatoes were pretty bland. I probably ordered the wrong sort, because I wanted Kartoffel salad with the vinegar dressing…
I enjoyed my meal here, unexpectedly.

Wenigstens einmal muss man hin… So wollten wir dieses berühmte Restaurant auch mal testen. Aber der Mangel an Freundlichkeit der Bedienung und die Preise haben uns nicht wirklich überzeugt. Deswegen werden wir Schnitzel und Kartoffelsalat zukünftig woanders genießen…

Wie es sehr passend über unseren Köpfen im Restaurant steht «Die Heimat des Wiener Schnitzel seit über 100 Jahren».
Ein Lokal das sich auf das Schnitzel machen spezialisiert hat, diese Hingabe hat sich wahnsinnig ausgezahlt, das Restaurant ist immer voll und es wird sogar angestanden um einen Platz zu bekommen. Meine Freundin und Ich haben gestern Abend auch angestanden und haben es nicht bereut. Ich habe ein unglaublich gutes Schnitzel mit Erdäpfel Vogel Salat bekommen von einem sehr zuvorkommenden Kellner. Wundervolles Restaurant wir kommen wieder.

It’s the Hotspot for schnitzel in Vienna. They serve it with their secret ingredients and in a very traditional way. No doubt about their quality…
On the other hand, it’s also one of Hotspots for the famous viennese rudeness. They simply dont care if you are a tourist, who got impressed by their history or just a local who would like to relieve the experience. All would get shout at to basically stop bothering them if you came without a reservation or called them for that purpose. This is literally how two conversations went on the phone (and they were 2 years apart): me:“Yes, good evening. I would like to make a reservation for two.“
Restaurant guy: «I’m busy, go to the website and make a reservation. bye» and he hang up.

Leider immer sehr voll. Man muss auch mal damit rechnen das man warten muss bis ein Tisch frei wird. Aber es lohnt sich!

Nicht abgehobenes, schmackhaftes Schnitzel mit sehr gutem Salat. Zwar ein touristisches Ziel, meiner Meinung nach aber trotzdem einen gelegentlichen Besuch zu feierlichen Anlässen wert! Reservieren nicht vergessen!

Bei den Preisen muss das, aber auch so sein. Das einzige Manko ohne Reservierung bekommt man absolut keinen Platz also einfach mal so hingehen spielt’s eher nicht. Dennoch einen Besuch wert!

Ja es gibt hier wirklich gutes Schnitzel und einen noch viel besseren Erdäpfelsalat, aber das war’s auch schon. Die Butternockerl sind kalt und ungesalzen. Die Erfäpfelsuppe schmeckt fad und den Tafelspitz bekommt man ein paar Meter weiter um einiges besser!
Ist eigentlich nur einen Besuch wert um zu sagen, ja man war mal da. Sonst auch ziemlich von Touristen überlaufen und ohne Reservierung bekommt man eigentlich keinen Platz ohne mal vorher –draußen– zu warten. Wenn man dann mal einen Platz bekommen hat, wird man dafür zügig bedient.

This place is packed with tourists. And even though I’m not one to normally recommend a touristy-​type food destination, this will have to be one of those few because the Wiener schnitzel here is really that good and should not be missed while visiting Vienna.
Just so you know, I am in no way a schnitzel aficionado but I have been living in Germany eating many a’ good schnitzel for the past year. My wife and I both agreed it was easily one of the very best and most well seasoned schnitzels we’ve ever had. And it was undoubtedly the largest! Served on a plate, but should have been served on a pizza pan!

When in Wien, you must try the schnitzel at Figlmüller because 1) it’s the most gigantic you may ever see and 2) it’s delicious! We agreed that this was one of the best schnitzels we’ve had. We arrived a little before 6pm and were lucky enough to grab a table without reservations. Anyone who arrived after us without resos were told to go to the second location.
We both ordered a schnitzel each as well as an order of the roasted potatoes. I suppose we may have missed out on the potato salad and greens by ordering the roasted potatoes… oops. The potatoes had a bit too much fennel for our taste too, so double oops. But that schnitzel! It engulfed the plate and you had to do a bit of maneuvering to keep in on the plate while you cut it, but the effort was worth it. The meat was pounded super thin, so every bite was crunchy from the crust yet tender and juicy. It ended up being far too much food so I took half of mine to go and we had it the next day for breakfast :)
I highly recommend trying the schnitzel here. Make resos just in case and come ready to eat!

Wiener Schnitzel! This is the place! My husband used to visit Vienna very often, and we almost had Wiener Schnitzel for EVERY MEAL when we visited this last time (hubby really loves and misses it)! After trying so many places, we really like Figlmüller’s the best! Their Schnitzel is juicier than other places, and the flavor has many layers of texture, and their potato salad was also very yummy — I don’t even like potato on normal days! We got there about 30 minutes before closing time, but they never made us feel rushed and service was excellent. Go to Figlmüller when you’re in Vienna, you won’t be disappointed! (I am drooling just thinking about the yummy Schnitzel!)

Wiener Schnitzel! This is the place to go for the best schnitzel. I’m drooling just thinking about it again. I decided to call a few hours ahead to make a reservation. It was an excellent decision because when we got there people were waiting in line for an hour.
Staff: I feel awful about the poor server. He was extremely friendly and made small talk asking where we’re from and how our trip was going. Unfortunately, my friends misunderstood or couldn’t hear each time so I was left doing most of the talking. And being such a terrible conversationalist, I didn’t give him a lot to work with, resulting in awkward silences. But the food came quick and he was attentive all night.
Ambience: It is a small place. We were seated in the outer heated area which is adorned with articles that have featured the restaurant. I will note that the restrooms are actually outside the restaurants so it was a bit unusual.
Food: It is huge! I was so full at the end. The schnitzel was so thin and crispy and juicy! It came with these delicious potatoes and salad. So good! I normally try more dishes but I was so full. Note that if you order bread, they will charge per roll even if they bring a basket.
Definitely a can’t miss stop in Vienna!

I’ve never understood the fascination with Wiener schnitzel, but even I concede that Figlmüller prepared it with dignity & grace. However, it was the side dishes that transported me out of Vienna & into another dimension.

I believe schnitzel is genetically designed to be dry, homogenous, & boring. Not to mention that it’s humongous. I came to Figlmüller knowing this and yet ordered it anyway – I mean they were quite audacious to claim that it’s the best in town, so I figured I’d gather some ammunition to destroy them with. But ya know, it was actually quite pleasant, definitely juicier than everywhere else, pleasantly flavored, and pounded thin enough to minimize the per bite protein intake. Now I’m not converting anytime soon, but I see what you did here and I can stand up for it.
***POTATO-​FIELD SALAD with Styrian
pumpkin seed oil
This potato salad was unbelievably good, maybe the best in the region. The potatoes were just firm enough, the dressing perfectly tangy & sweet, and the various little goodies provided that crucial crunch. Served with a delicious fresh salad, a lovely contrast.
***VIENNESE-​STYLE BOILED BEEF with chive sauce, apple horseradish and browned potatoes
Boiled beef is a very hearty, homey meal, not something that I would normally order at a restaurant, but I was really impressed by the subtle flavor of the broth and the impossibly tender consistency of meat that really was too lean to be tender – it directly fell apart on my fork. And yet the carrot & onion remained just firm enough.
Perhaps the most magical portions of the meal were the sauces that accompanied the browned potatoes, on the left a zesty apple horseradish that changed my life forever, and on the right a divinely creamy chive sauce. Combine these two and Captain Planet emerges. I slathered them all over my naked, glistening body, which ended the meal rather promptly but in a satisfying manner.

Perhaps the best schnitzel ever! Really tasty and huge. Also ordered the famous potato salad and side salad, again both very tasty. The service is prompt and on top of everything. Hightly reccomend you book in advance, a lot of people were turned away.

Really touristy place, but worth it, since the food is really yummy. The best tip for this location, which is really small with ZERO waiting room, or a waiting list, is to make a reservation. If there is no room for you, there is no waiting inside, or waiting list. You might get lucky, but 80% of walk-​ins are turned away.
Once you do sit down, prepare to enjoy. I love their in-​house sodas, the soda with lemon (bitter) and raspberry (sweet) being my faves. Order your schnitzel of choice (I prefer the chicken), but don’t forget to order sides! The potato salad is a must! The cucumbers are sour and crunchy, and perfect with every bite of fried golden goodness. Some people like their schnitzel with gravy, but I prefer the tart-​sweet lingon berry jam, Thanksgiving style. Also, if you like cole slaw, the white canbbage salad is phenomenal!

You should try the boiled beef. It is better. But also the Schnitzel was good. Prices are high by the way.

be ready for HUGE plates of food in the best Austrian tradition!
There are renowned for their Wiener Schnitzel, allegedly the bests in Vienna. I’ve seen a documentary on how they prepared them (making them sooooo thin it doesn’t fit on a plate!) and cooking them in three different pans at different temperatures for a very precise time each (each seconds count!).
Let’s try for your self, you won’t be disappointed by the friendly atmosphere and the traditional cooking!

My buddies had schnitzel here and said it was legit. Me? I was not feeling schnitzel even though I heard it was the truth. I think I was all schnitzelled out and pretty full. But hey it’s popular and my buddies wanted to give it a go so what the heck. I guess we were lucky because we randomly showed up and were seated immediately.
I ended up ordering something «small» — chicken breast with potato salad and some grape juice. It wasn’t small. I could barely move by the end of it. It was actually very tasty and delicious. I was offered some schnitzel by my friends but I just didn’t have the room. A delightful place. Check it out.

In Germany, you can get a schnitzel anywhere, but few can say they had one at the famous Figlmüller in Vienna. There’s 2 locations and both are less than 2 minutes walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral. After our city tour, we found the original one tucked inside an alleyway to the left of the Cathedral.
The place is tiny, holding no more than 16 – 20 tables. We were lucky and got a corner table immediately. We decided to split the house specialty pork schnitzel, instead of the veal, and I ordered a bowl of potato soup with mushroom, and a roll.
While waiting, I asked for the bathroom key and by the time I got back, we only waited a moment for our food. The toilet is spectacularly clean, by the way. Amazingly clean!

Our server was very nice and gave us an extra plate so we could share the food. When he put down the plate, I gasped at the size of that schnitzel! Even cut in half, the schnitzel took up the plate! The schnitzel was so good! It was tender and perfectly breaded and fried. Stephen prefers the Jagr Schnitzel with the gravy, but I liked our plain one with lemon just fine.
Our lunch with a large still bottled water came to € 26,60, which wasn’t too bad since its touristy.

Malgré cela, on reçoit une table relativement vite, avec des serveurs efficaces malgré l’influence et la grandeur des lieux. L’escalope de veau pané, simple à réaliser chez soi, occupe plus que l’assiette. Grosse portion donc, pour un plat servi de base sans accompagnements. Une salade ou une patate reviennent vite cher, dommage mais les carnivores seront aux anges.

Lemon fizzy pop was really refreshing as well.
We went early so we were able to walk in BUT beware they book up fast and ship people to the newer one around the block.

The Quick: That Schnitzel though. Big and so delicious, make sure to split. The fried cheese is also fantastic– the best I had in Vienna. Also a huge portion (see my pictures). A must visit if you are in the area.

Also es gibt ja inzwischen nicht mehr nur einen Figlmüller sondern deren mehrere. Zwei davon gleich in unmittelbarer Nähe, und die haben sich dem Schnitzel verschrieben, Wiener Schnitzel wäre hier nicht ganz richtig, denn das ist ja Kalb. Und das Figlmüllerschnitzel ist ein Schweinsschnitzel, nur weil da immer wieder Verwirrung herrscht (wobei sie auch ein Kalbsschnitzel auf der Karte haben).
Sollte der Figlmüller im Durchgang (der schönere und «echte») überfüllt sein, gleich in der Bäckerstraße ist der nächste. Unbedingt die Eigenbauweine probieren. Sicherlich oftmals touristisch, aber wenn man weiss wann die Japaner anrauschen kann man nachmittags schon einmal eine ruhigere Zeit erwischen!
Über das beste Schnitzel wird immer wieder gestritten, ich finde es zumindest eines der besseren in Wien.

Hochgelobt und der Ruf eilt dem Lokal hier schon voraus, also muss man sich auf Touripfade begeben und auch mal beim Figlmüller vorbeischauen.
Sitzplatz, sollte man reservieren, Platz ist nicht zu Maß vorhanden und wenn man «nur mal so vorbeischaut» kann es sein, wieder weiterziehen zu müssen.
In der Karte, an den Wänden, in Schaukästen, überall Geschichten und Zeitungsausschnitte von vielen Jahrzehnten Figlmüller und seine Wagenradgrossen Schnitzel.
Ein weiterer Blick in die Karte verrät mir, dass es sich beim original Figlmüllerschnitzel nur um ein «Schnitzel Wiener Art» vom Schwein handelt. Etwas enttäuscht, blicke ich an den Nebentisch, sehen schon gut aus und gross sind sie auch, aber Schnitzel vom Schwein, ich weiss ja nicht! Die Enttäuschen stand mir wohl ins Gesicht geschrieben und auch meine Begleitung stellte dies fest, dass ich schon gegessen hatte.
Da natürlich der Hunger präsent war, entschied ich mich für den Tafelspitz vom Rind, mit Kartoffelgratin, Kren und Wurzelgemüse.
Dies alles wurde in einer Emailreine geliefert, mit kleinen Töpfen die nebendran standen für Kartoffelgratin und Kren. In der grossen Reine, zwei grosse Stücke vom Tafelspiel und das Wurzelgemüse im Sud.
Geschmacklich sehr gut, aber nicht den besten Tafelspitz den ich kenne.
Ansonsten ist zu sagen, dass es auf der Karte nicht viel mehr gibt als Schnitzel vom Schwein, Tafelspitz, Salat mit Backhendl und im groben wars das schon. Schade, das nächstemal dann eher wieder ein Lokal mit echtem Wiener Schnitzel.
Preislich, trotz Innenstadtlage, noch in Ordnung, auch der Service freundlich und schnell mit dem Wiener Charme, den man so liebt!

Schnitzel! SCHNITZZZELLL! I honestly don’t even know why they give you a menu. if you’re coming for anything else other than schnitzel, you’re a) crazy and 2) wrong.
We knew we were risking it, coming to this small place without a reservation at 1pm on a weekday in June, but it all worked out. There was no wait and we sat in the little conservatory area on the alley itself. That suited us well, as it was a hot day and it was pleasant here. The tables all had reserved signs — including the one we sat at — but Brian surmised that it was to stop people from walking in and just seating themselves. I think he’s probably right.
Having read other reviews, I knew we didn’t need to order salad and potato salad, so we just got one potato salad to share (which still came with some salad, anyway), and 2 schnitzels. It was all top notch. Schnitzel, to be fair, is pretty plain — but this was really well seasoned (bordering on salty, as I like) and the lemon really cut through it all. The potato salad was OUT OF THIS WORLD. If I could somehow have eaten it by the bucket, I would. In the end, I only managed about half my schnitzel and a bit of my drink, but I definitely had all of my half of the salad and potato salad bowl.
I didn’t much care for my drink, which was their house-​made grape juice mixed with soda water. I just found it a bit too tart — it tasted alcoholic, even though it wasn’t, and as a non-​drinker, I just don’t have the taste for it. But it was refreshing!
The charming waiter offered to wrap up my sadly unfinished schnitzel but I declined, as I was pretty sure I’d never need to eat again. In hindsight, we could have done with 2 potato salads and 1 schnitzel to share — not that the potato salad was better than the main event, but just that the schnitzel is really quite big. I guess we’ll have to go back!

One of the best schnitzel I’ve had. The potato salad was also amazing as it was topped off beautifully with some delicious sweet salad greens and the potato salad itself seemed light.
The veal goulash was delicate and well balanced with capers and spatzel.
I’d return here easily for a good Austrian meal. Service was fast and friendly.

I’ve had schnitzel at a very good place in Cologne previously, and other than that it’s been places in the UK. Which might as well be the other side of the world as far as schnitzel is concerned.
This is the best schnitzel I’ve ever had.
Now, firstly the restaurant is busy — but we were very lucky. As it turns out there are multiple locations but we went to the one down the alley. We timed it extremely well as afterwards we were curious to see how heavily booked it was, and it was booked out for about a week! But we just walked in without a queue at about 1 o’clock with two of us and were seated straight away.
The service was prompt and very polite, I tried a splattering of 20 year old GCSE German, which caused no problems as the waiter spoke perfect English (a relief!). We both ordered the schnitzel and a potato salad to share, along with two grape juice spritzers.
I’m a sucker for a schitnizel that hangs over the edge of the plate on all sides. But trust me, I ate the whole thing! The potato salad was delicious as was the little leafy salad that came with it. This was so perfect, that I said upon leaving that if we ever come back to Vienna that I’m going there again. My only sadness was that we were only in the city for a few hours and so I couldn’t exactly go twice!
As someone else said recently, despite the premium location, there were actually quite a few Austrians there which I too also take as a very good sign.

Walking by, it looked immediately authentic and warm. The waiter was very kind and quick. Many Austrians sat around us — to me that’s an excellent sign.
This was an amazing experience.
The waiter excellent, food supreme quality and overall a perfect evening.

I truly don’t have one negative thing to say about my experience at Figlmuller. I mean, I wish I HAD A SECOND OFF-​SITE STOMACH to finish the schnitzel without true discomfort, but: that’s a «me» thing, not the fault of the noble Figlmuller.
So, knowing that I wanted to EAT ALL THE SCHNITZEL and didn’t want to wait in queue in the meantime… I made a reservation. If you have any insight into your schedule I really recommend you do the same. At this Wollzeile location (the other one is just around the corner, but this is the original and cozy and just oh-​so-​lovely).
The only reservation available to me was 11am. Ok, so… porky brunch?
Showed up and the man in the black and white said, «Alexandra? Welcome». I MEAN OMG (/​kindof wild, but educated guess?). He escorted me to the perfect little wooden booth with «reserved» on it. And I did as one does as Figlmuller:
— schnitzel
— potato salad
— soda water with some squeezes of fresh lemon to kind of offset the heavy
If you’re a tourist, well… I find it hard to recommend anything beyond the schnitzel. GO FOR THE SCHNITZEL!
Large schnitzel was large. And delicious. Thinly pounded out, crunchy exterior, large chunk of lemon to squeeze atop.
Potato salad, the server proclaimed, is «best in the universe». Who knows, but also: YUM. Served with a side of pea shoots (some sort of fine greens?) this was a saucy ‘tater salad with tiny bits of red onion and mustard and… not sure what else, frankly. Apparently pumpkin seed oil? Just… get it.
All in: 20 euro.
I felt a little like I was in my own Man vs. Food episode (food won), but that was part of the fun. Gogogo!

Con un cartel en la entrada anuncia «Casa Fundada en 1905» este restaurante con solera se ha convertido en el MUST IN de los turistas para degustar el famoso Schnitzel (escalope vienés).
Un local con el encanto de otras épocas, sillas talladas con el escudo austriaco, madera alpina, estrecho y, con la peculiaridad de que tienes que compartir mesa con desconocidos. A nosotros nos tocó una que compartimos junto con un matrimonio de Houston, una chica oriental y un irlandés. Fue una buena experiencia.
El sitio siempre está lleno de gente, por lo que los camareros van de cabeza. Servicio muy amigable y rápido. Pero se nota demasiado que es un sitio para turistas.
Los baños se hallan en la calle. Dentro del restaurante tienes que coger una llave, salir, usar el aseo y, al terminar, volver a dejar la llave en su sitio.
El Schnitzel (fino pero de dimensiones considerable) más una ensalada (que llevaba patata aliñada, pepinillo, col, canónigos, rúcula y seguro que alguna cosa más) cuestan 13,50 €. No está mal para ser un lugar «typical guiri», eso sí, el agua de 75 cl. cuesta 5,20 €. y cada panecilo que tomes de la cesta central, 1 €.
Si no puedes acabarte el plato te dan una bolsita junto con un papel encerado y tú mismo guardas lo que te quieras llevar.

Bonne adresse mais j’ignore si l’on y mange réellement la meilleure escalope viennoise.
Pour mémoiré ou info, il faut savoir que l’appellation «Wienner Schnitzel» est exclusivement faite avec du veau. Dès lors que l’on voit seulement Schnitzel alors on est sur une escalope de porc. La différence se voit tout de suite avec le prix.
Alors pour revenir sur Figlmüller, lorsqu’il est annoncé que l’escalope fait 32 cm (c’est tout a fait cela) elle est a base de porc.
Par préférence, j’ai opté pour celle au veau, l’assiette est servie avec deux escalopes en fait et la viande est réellement fondante.
Nous sommes bien installes sur des tables généreuses et l’on né nous presse pas le moins du monde.
Rien a dire, adresse dans laquelle l’on peut s’arrêter sans problème.

Eines der Dinge, die ich mir für Wien vorgenommen habe, war natürlich ein Wiener Schnitzel zu verputzen.
Da ich aber von mehreren Personen darauf aufmerksam gemacht wurde, dass es beim Figlmüller das beste Schnitzel der Stadt gäbe, geriet ich in einen Zwiespalt, denn beim Figlmüller gibt’s zwar Schnitzel, jedoch seit jeher und aus Tradition einzig vom Schwein. Was also tun? Wiener Schnitzel oder bestes Schnitzel Wiens? Ich habe mich für Letzteres entschieden und es nicht bereut.
Unter der Woche bekamen wir zur Mittagszeit recht schnell einen Tisch in diesem urig-​gemütlichen Wirtshaus und bestellten zum Schnitzel noch den empfohlenen Erdäpfel-​Vogerlsalat mit steirischem Kernöl, dazu je eine Traubensaftschorle aus dem eigenen Weinanbau — sehr lecker und erfrischend!
Das Figlmüller-​Schnitzel konnten wir schon an sämtlichen Tischen um uns herum bestaunen. Ob jung, ob alt, ob allein, zu zweit oder als japanische Großfamilie (vielleicht beim europäischen Hauptstadt-​Hopping?) — alle aßen sie Schnitzel :)
Als unsere Schnitzel dann kamen, legten wir auch direkt los. Die Figlmüller-​Schnitzel sind ja deshalb so berühmt, weil das Fleisch aus der Karreerose des Schweins stammt und in Handarbeit auf einen Durchmesser von 30 cm geklopft wird. Sie sind also größer als der Teller, aber eben auch recht dünn. Und lecker!!! Außen knusprig, innen saftig und einfach nur köstlich. Der Salat war auch großartig. Diese Kombi aus Kartoffel– und Feldsalat ist in Deutschland ja eher untypisch, wird zuhause aber bald mal nachgemacht.
Das Schnitzel hab ich leider nicht ganz aufessen können, war wohl doch zu groß :) Beim nächsten Besuch lasse ich morgens am besten das Frühstück ausfallen, dann wird’s schon passen :)

Schnitzel gehörte eigentlich nie zu meinen Leibspeisen. Seit meinem Besuch beim Figlmüller sehe ich das jedoch anders.
Zum Figlmüller kamen wir auf Empfehlung und sollten es nicht bereuen. Zwar wird hier kein Wiener Schnitzel aus Kalbfleisch serviert, dafür aber das beste Schnitzel, das ich je gegessen habe.
Beim Figlmüller wird das Schnitzel aus der Karreerose vom Schwein gemacht und von Hand auf 30 cm Durchmesser geklopft. Das Fleisch war unglaublich zart, die Panade aus Kaisersemmelbröseln total knusprig und der Erdäpfel-​Vogerlsalat einfach nur lecker! Dieses Schnitzel durchläuft hier übrigens drei Pfannen bevor es aufgetischt wird.
Die Einrichtung beim Figlmüller ist, wie nach 100 Jahren nicht anders zu erwarten, urig und total gemütlich. Der Service ist hier absolut professionell und flink. Ein Hoch auf des Figlmüllers Schnitzel!

Figlmüller est selon moi un détour obligé pour tout touriste à Vienne. Tout simplement, comme le dit la pub: «Unser Schnitzel ist das Größten» (Notre Schnitzel est le plus grand). Ils font plus de 34 cm, ça, c’est du Schnitzel!
Construit au début1900, les serveurs portent encore le nœud papillon. Avec le décor vous trouverez une ambiance des années 1920.
Je vous suggère en accompagnement «Geröstete Erdäpfel» (pommes de terre rôties) et «Erdäpfel Vogerl» (pommes de terre et salade) pour expérimenter la cuisine autrichienne.
De plus, Figlmüller vous offre une belle carte du centre-​ville de Vienne.
Prenez note qu’au Figlmüller l’on n’y sert pas de bière, seulement du vin et certains alcools. Dommage, une bonne Weißbier avec le Schnitzel serait géniale.

Vous né pensiez pas que l’on pouvait servir une escalope plus que l’assiette ! n’oublié pas la salade de pomme de terre avec !
C’est la tradition ici, je m’organise un déjeuner pratiquement à chacun de mes séjours à Vienne le lieu calme tout en étant toujours très actif, les tables simples pas de nappe (c’est un peu cantine !). Les petits recoins permettent de passer un moment tranquille. Le sélection de vin est correct.
