Albert is your guy for groceries! AH is a nice, clean, well-stocked grocery chain with just about everything you’ll need for a daily/weekly shop, meal prep, snacks, meal on the go, etc. We were chuffed to find all types of snacks and nicely prepared foods(salads, pastas, etc) while staying nearby, an extremely fresh and colorful produce section and cut flowers of high quality, that I’ve come to expect in this part of the continent. All around, high marks on quality. This is a busy location and closed on Sundays, so if you are there late on a Saturday be prepared to get in and get out as fast as you can! It can get a little mad, the space is pretty tight. *they do not take credit cards(except Maestro, Belgian bank cards) and charge for the good bags. Bring your cash and tote bags, travelers.

As a Dutchmen I’m very pleased with Albert Heijn in Belgium and especially in Antwerp. Someone else already wrote that Albert Heijn in the Netherlands is the more expensive super market but in Belgium it’s one of the lower priced one. Absolutely true. Here is where I do my grocery shopping :)

Albert Heijn is a Dutch supermarket chain that has been opening locations throughout Belgium over the last couple of years. What’s funny is that in the Netherlands AH is the expensive place to do groceries, but in Belgium they’re the low price option! I’ll start with the good things: — Like I mentioned above, lower prices than other supermarkets like Delhaize — Huge healthy, organic, sustainable offering — Large Asian(Indonesian, Japanese, Thai, etc) and Mexican offering And the things holding back the last star: — TOO crowded and the aisles are too narrow — Because it’s so crowded the lines to checkout are always super long — They offer free coffee and there are so many people only coming to stand around and drink coffee(So if you’re in a hurry that part of AH is hard to navigate) I normally do my grocery shopping at Delhaize and Natuurhuis(for organic products), but every once in a while I pop into the Albert Heijn. I’m always happy with what I find and how much I spend, but because of the crowds I usually am hesitant to go.
