De Werf

Everybody’s right, De Werf is packed with students. I loved coming here for hot chocolate and lunch when I studied in Leuven. To be honest, I couldn’t afford much else. De Werf offers great value and nice service. I was never disappointed with any aspect of my visit. It’s also very cozy. Try the soup. The onion soup is wonderful.

Ordered a stella and a spaghetti bolognaise here. The dish ran about 7,5 euros with cheese. The food here is nothing particularly special, the décor is unusual inside but in my opinion I just felt it was tacky as hell. Tourists should know that this is a popular place for locals because of it’s location and outdoor seating arrangement. They have blankets for you to wrap yourself in case of cold (er) weather.
I hear their wraps are pretty popular, but I haven’t had a chance to try it.

Pas cher mais pas gastronomique
Ce restaurant n’est ouvert qu’en semaine et est certainement la cantine de beaucoup d’étudiants et professeurs. La déco est super basique mais sympatique, le service est super pro. «De Werf» veut dire le chantier et nous avons été servi dans un tuperware. Pain pas terrible et trop gros en comparaison à la garniture. Pas le meilleur choix selon moi.
Nous avons déjeuné en hiver à l’intérieur mais la terrasse doit être excellente au printemps/​été.

The place to be entre amis pour terminer une belle soirée, surtout en été car la terrasse est top, et vous recevez des couvertures bien chaudes pour vous couvrir en fin de soirée.
Le service est louvaniste, et ce qui sort particulièrement du lot sont les manières de servir. «De Werf» veut dire le chantier, et on y reçoit par exemple des tartines dans une boîte à pick-​nick, ou encore le café et la tisane dans un thermos. Mais que ça né vous fasse pas peur, c’est artistiquement fort réussi et sympa.
Idéalement situé, entre le Oude Markt et labibliothèque, sur une jolie petite place sous les arbres.

Mediocre food and a reasonable selection of beer. While Leuven does offer nicer brasseries, De Werf is unique as it’s cozy and always packed with students.

Great brasserie in the touristic city center. Nice atmosphere but always crowded, expect to wait in order to find a table in the evening. The have an original menu: hot chocolate comes as warm milk with chocolate, your can make your own orange juice and coffee comes in a thermos. The terras is heated and they have blankets for the colder evenings.

Good beer and fair price. Service is good as well!

Simple, nice and decent food. Student joint. Located at an usually quite and picturesque square. Cozy summer terrace with horrible uncomfortable chairs. On the positive, fleece blankets made available for the chilly evenings. Ever rotating service personel that are not always (trained to be) friendly and service orientated!

Ein nettes Café mit irren Ideen, de werf heisst auf Deutsch die Baustelle, und einiges am Ambiente erinnert hieran auch.
Das Eis im Bügelglas ist sehr sehr lecker, die Becher für den Café und die Kaltgetränke sind sehr ausgefallen und es macht allein schon Spass, all die Kleinigkeiten zu entdecken, die bei den anderen Gästen auf dem Tisch stehen.
Das Essen ist empfehlenswert, die Getränke nicht minder. Allen voran das Kriek (das Kirschbier)

Das schönste, gemütlichste und originellste Café in Leuven, etwas abseits der Namestraat. Gelegen an dem ruhigen Hogeschoolplein, auf der Terrasse ‘überdacht’ von den Bäumen am Platz und großen Markisen, so dass man fast immer draussen seitzen kann. Trotzdem sollte man mal reinschauen, denn dort ist das Interieur ganz dem Motto des Ladens — Baustelle — angepasst. Es gibt Leitern, Warnschilder und Bauhelme und vieles mehr.
Besonders schön ist, dass das Motto auch bei den Speisen und Getränken übernommen wurde und alles entsprechend sehr originell serviert wird. So kommt der Kaffee schon mal in der robusten Thermoskanne daher oder das Eis wird in Einmachgläsern stabil angeliefert.
Sehr zu empfehlen ist auch die ausgezeichnete Küche. Mein Favorit: Chowders — lecker Brote, die komplett ausgehöhlt und dann neu gefüllt mit z.B. Hühnchen und Pilzen sind. Unbedingt ausprobieren.
Dieser Laden ist fast ein Pflichtbesuch!

Sehr gemütliche Kneipe, die ein bisschen versteckt am Hogeschoolplein liegt. Dank der ausliegenden Decken kann man fast das ganze Jahr draußen sitzen und sich die leckeren Wraps oder andere Köstlichkeiten schmecken lassen.
