Here is an adorable little corner store that a nice Asian couple owns. It’s right outside the entrance of Bunzen Lake and everyone knows it as the place to get hard ice cream cones. You can pretty much get any kind of barbecue/picnic item, candy, refreshment or ice cream flavor here. My son road his bike there, and he was about $ 0.25 short on the item he wanted and the lady gave it to him anyway. Very nice people. If you are heading for a hot day at the beach, you definitely need to stop here and try an ice cream cone — cookies n cream, rainbow, maple walnut and all the flavors you would find at the bigger ice cream spots.

I live in the neighborhood just behind Anmore grocery and have been going there for years for my ice cream/pop or anything else I may be craving. Its also great for getting a carton of milk when you don’t feel like running to the grocery store. The owner is very friendly and knows everyone in the neighborhood. They have kayak/canoe rentals in the summer for Buntzen lake. Anmore Grocery is just a fantastic little convenience store for residents and for visitors of the lake EDIT: The store now has new owners. I find they have brought in a little bit more selection/stock

I don’ know about you but when I go on a hike I like to know where the closest spot is for a post-hike treat. Fresh air, exercise, nature… all good. Ice cream, beer, burgers… mmmm. It’s all very Pavlovian and it works for me. The Anmore Grocery Store always hits the spot after a walk around Buntzen Lake and we started discussing the post-hike ice cream at about 5min into our walk. We are truly focused. The ice cream selection is limited(about 8 flavours) but who needs to hang around while indecisive hikers(or loungers) hum and haw about whether they should opt for the lemon swirl of chewy chocolate(yes, true names and no, no one knew why it was ‘chewy’). I have to say though that on this particular day, and likely because it’s the beginning of the season and their bins were filled with last years fare, the ice cream was a tad freezer burnt. Other than that, no complaints. Just remember, the waffle cone is scooped«properly» meaning a one scoop is actually two… be sure to pack the lactaid.
