To be fair, I’d say that the service was very good and attentive. This place is the least authentic chinese food I’ve ever had. Please listen to what the other reviews are saying: the food is BLAND(not seasoned) and expensive for the portion size(typically $ 14 – 15 but is comparable to $ 8 – 9 at other places). I had the peking duck which they presented completed butchered instead of clean cut with a good amount of meat on it. The meat was dry and tasteless. It didn’t come with any cucumber or pickled vegetables. The second portion of the duck(lettuce wrap) was decent. Beef crispy noodles with broccoli, which should have been a staple but was completely unseasoned/bland. I was very disappointed. The fish fillet with sweet and sour sauce was decent. The juicy pork bun/dumpling(xiao long bao) was a complete DISGRACE. –It comes in a tray of 10 dumpling. All the dumplings had popped and lost their juice! WTH! –The bottom of all the dumplings were soggy. It seems like they had over cooked the dumplings or simply forgot to take it to my table right a way. Kent’s kitchen fast food restaurant has way better food than this place. Once again, I will have to say that this place had good service but considering the food was mediocre I would not recommend this restaurant.

The food was cold upon delivery. The chicken balls seemed like they were left over from the day before. Our other two dishes were lacking flavor. And all around a terrible meal! It has put me off Chinese food for a long time.

My family went here for my dad’s birthday and it is our first time dining here I would say the service and food was exceptional! The quality of food is very good that you know they are not cutting corners specifically the cuts and portions of meat. The service you get treated like you are in a hotel in a way that servers check you out regularly and we brought a cake from outside and they even wanted to put it in the fridge and they will serve it for later. Isn’t that amazing? Definitely will come back more often. I hope they don“t change :)

Very good and affordable! Take out portions are decent but noticeably smaller than in restaurant. Highly recommend house special chicken and black bean cod.

First time ordering from Burnaby Palace. I chose this place based on reviews. The gentleman on the phone and the delivery person was very kind, genuine and professional. The food was ok: wontons in spicy sauce(3⁄5), veg spring rolls(2.5÷5), beef and veg chow mein(1⁄5), and chicken fried rice(2⁄5) Overall, all of the food was very bland and almost undercooked. I thought the prices and value were very fair. I would not recommend this restaurant to friends or family.

Great food, great prices and great service! Delivery is always consistent with how long they say it will be, and the portion sizes are generous. The Szechuan Spicy Green Beans are my favourite menu item. They’re so delicious!

Oh wow. This is real Chinese food. I hadn’t had real Chinese food in so long, it was like taking a wave of endorphins overcoming my brain and my mouth with the first bite of lemon chicken. My friend and I ordered a couple things to try and shared everything. Every bite was a rocket to heaven. We got the lemon chicken, broccoli with beef, BBQ pork and house fried rice. I could live off of that rice alone. I’ve never had anything close to as good as that rice in my life. Our waitress was super efficient and got a kick out of my ridiculously joyous expression whenever she asked how we were doing. They have dim sum and authentic Chinese here. I might scream in ecstasy if their dim sum is as good as the Chinese food. I’m going to eat here every time I come to Vancouver from now on. I wish they delivered to Seattle. There’s a saying in the Seattle foodie club I’m in that the closest Chinese food to us is in Richmond. I’ll be detouring to Burnaby for sure. This restaurant has great décor. Love the lighting, beautiful tables and chairs, hardwood flooring and purple walls. Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 4 Parking: 4

You know you’re on a good thing(as an Anglo) when you hit a Chinese restaurant in Vancouver where the diners are a mix of Chinese and Caucasian. It must be good, but not«too authentic». Food here is great, all your favorites from a suburban/western Chinese restaurant, but with good Szechuan options as well. Multi-course banquets for 2+ people are a great way to go. We enjoyed all, including left overs the next day!

Burnaby Palace is about a minute walk from my place so I used to grab take-out from them every few days. Unfortunately, due to their recent price increase, I’ve gone elsewhere. It’s a hit or miss with this restaurant. The fact I no longer dine here after their price increase says that their food is definitely not worth their price. If I’m going to pay more or less the same amount as any other restaurant, but I’d get better quality food somewhere else at a decent distance, it’d only make sense to say goodbye. The service is floppy. Some days, I have managers remembering my name and stop to start small chit chat, and some days I have managers telling me I put my address in wrong so they had trouble locating my house so they’re late. Sure, they did… considering that’s the same delivery person I’ve had for the last few months. They have online ordering, and I order the same thing, at the same time and I don’t type in my address. It’s automatically inputted each time. As for the food, well, it used to be cheap Chinese take-out. The wontons are nothing like how they’re supposed to be(now $ 7+, used to be $ 5 for 12pc) — meaty, no shrimp, not chewy, wrapper is very thin but I wasn’t complaining for $ 5. Their rice noodle dishes are mediocre, nothing anyone can’t make themselves at home. What I do love is their crab meat and fish maw soup. If anything was worth the value, it was this. There is beyond spoonfuls of crab meat and the soup was flavorful. Absolutely delish. Ambiance of the restaurant is typical. Parking is easy as they have their own lot with an entrance along Boundary Road. I’ve said goodbye to this restaurant but I wouldn’t say don’t go here, either. If you’re in the area and don’t want to drive too far, give them a shot. It might be a hit for you.

I have to agree with most of my fellow Unilocalers in that Burnaby Palace is more Canadianized type of Chinese food. The staff is friendly and efficient and the service is good but better food can be found elsewhere. The hilights of the nights dinner was the house special chow mein with crispy noodles, mix vegetable with seafood, and the mango pudding — all were tasty and nicely presented. Now for the lowlights, the minced duck and pork with lettuce was bland, sweet n sour pork had too much batter and the sauce was too thick which made the whole dish soft and chewy. Ginger beef was a bit rubbery and lacking… something, and the beef and broccoli was just ok. All in all a nice place to drop in if you’re in the neighborhood but not a place to drive to if you crave authentic Chinese– Richmond or Downtown would be a better bet!

Good modern décor, clean appearance, and friendly staff but… Staff have difficulty understanding English so flip to a bit of Chinese and away we go. Food arrived and as I feared not authentic Chinese food. Ginger beef was OK, singing chicken hot pot, on top of standard rice. Chicken was never near signing as it had been old chicken deep friend well before the prep for hot pot, meaning that it was tough, did not soak the flavours of the hot pot in fact it tasted like a cheap deep frier. Being Chinese I would be ashamed of introducing this to my friends. Prices for this was OK, certainly better value had elsewhere. Nearby Metrotown and Joyce Kingsway areas definitely better Chinese at better value(that’s what Chinese food is really about, value).

I have come here for a few years at lunch to eat one and one thing only. The house special chicken. Its spicy and tangy and always served a little different but yummy. Unfortunately as others have mentioned its«western chinese food» I have ordered a series of other things and they are usually flavourless. The tofu on spinach which should be spicy is more sweet than anything. House special chow mein should be amazing since its house special but its rather bland. This time we ordered Mandarin pork. It looked different in the picture and tasted bland. Was more like Ginger beef except it was pork. Spicy squid was not spicy. Repeat? Only for the house special chicken. HONS is better at everything else.

Had the smoked duck recently, far from what I had last time, got to be a different chef making this specialty dish. No smokiness at all.

Going to this restaurant for lunch yesterday solidified the fact that my foodie parents successfully raised a foodie daughter. Burnaby Palace has a nice ambience, friendly service, and parking, but I will have to leave it at that. They have a large Northern Chinese and Cantonese menu. The xiao long bao(steamed juicy pork buns/dumplings) were still a bit frozen in the centre when they arrived; the waiter took them back and gave us complimentary deep fried wontons. The sentiment was appreciated but the meat inside the wontons was dry and not flavourful. When a new order of xiao long bao arrived, they still didn’t seem fully cooked, but at least they were warm in the centre. The rice cake dish was flavourless – it was the first time I’ve had it served in a bowl with that mixture of vegetables. I would say that their deep fried squid was my favourite of what we ordered(both slightly spicy and not overly battered/fried), but I won’t be returning. I would rather drive to Shanghai River in Richmond. Also, they serve fortune cookies, which are yummy, but indicate that they are catering to more of a Canadian(vs. Chinese) demographic.

Well, I was hankering for some new Chinese food, something different from my usual places, so I tried some delivery from Burnaby Palace. Not so great. I ordered the pineapple chicken fried rice(very bland and looked to be canned pineapple), beef and baby bok choy fried rice noodle(again bland and the bok choy was limp and flavourless). The egg roll was cold and just terrible, straight from the freezer. The only thing that had any flavour were the pork dumplings, which were juicy and delicious. I realize that this place is «Chinese food for white people» and is somewhat of an institution, but really they just come off as lazy. Not as good as Chongqing, On Lok, or my old favourite(that burned down) New Maple. Not recommended.

Yet another attempt at finding some good delivery Chinese food in Burnaby(that will deliver to me). Ordering process was a first for me at a Chinese restaurant… I did it online. I ordered about an hour and a half in advance(setting a 7pm delivery time). They showed up at about 7:10pm… not too bad. Food was… ok. It wasn’t as good as some I’ve gotten in the past(in another neighbourhood), but head and shoulders above what I’ve ordered recently. I ordered two dim sum appy’s for my wife, two veggie egg rolls for me… ginger fried beef, bbq pork fried rice, and crispy veggie chow mein… the appy’s for the wife were REALLY oily… the one pork one quite positively shimmered in the light. The egg roll was fried in oil that should maybe be changed(not too bad, but a little old tasting). The ginger beef was pretty good… not the best I’ve ever had, but again… the best I’ve had in a while. The bbq pork fried rice had LOTS of egg in it(not bad), and was ok… the chow mein… was not crispy… and was quite bland. So… the quest for a great delivery place in my area continues… but if nothing better surfaces… this would be passable.

My «mom» and I have differing opinions as to what constitutes good chinese food. I turn my nose away from«Canadianized» chinese food like sweet and sour pork(I just can’t get over the neon red color) and she doesn’t like more authentic style dishes, but Burnaby Palace is perfect for both of us. We ordered for pick up on a really busy day(seriously crazy busy!) but they had our order ready on time. Crispy chow main with chicken and veg, beef with snow peas, sweet and sour pork(sigh) eggroll(another sigh) and deep fried wontons. The food was really good! Portions were nice and everything was super fresh and tasty. Now for the icing on the cake: They messed up the deep fried wontons and gave us deep fried wonton chips instead. Well, I called and they delivered them! A+ for service! I’ll be ordering from them from now on when I’m in the hood! :D

Huge portions! But well made! The portions don’t overwhelm like lower quality places like Kent’s Kitchen(though I guess it’s not fair comparing a take-out place to a restaurant like this one). We took the leftovers home, and it was still good after reheating. I liked the crispy chow mein. The prawns were flavoured really well, though I usually don’t like eating them with the shells on, it worked. I don’t remember what else we ordered, but everything tasted good, not forced fake flavour or overly greasy. My plate had something on it, but I pointed it out, and I was brought a new one without hassle. The take-out container is recyclable plastic and is shaped like a loaf pan! That shape is easier to carry in a bag without having it flip. It has fold-up-able corners for microwaving :)
