Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria

I was so excited to try Cotto! We live just down the road, and I’ve never been. My fiancé and I went there the other night after work, we were seated pretty quickly and they brought water right away, but then it stopped there. We waited 20 mins for someone to come take just our drink order. 4 girls were just standing around chatting, paying absolutely no attention at all. So we walked out. I was extremely disappointed. I’m very on the fence about going back.

Great restaurant! The food is high quality and fresh. Everything is served fast. The staff are friendly and the service are great! Great place to go for pizza, pasta, etc!

I hate to give this place 2 star because we do enjoy their food and have been here quite a few times in the past 2 years. Sadly, however, the customer service has seriously gone downhill at this establishment and management needs to do something to turn this around.
We went there this past Sunday early evening (without a reservation) and so were prepared to wait for a table. Anyway, so we get there… there were two hostesses by the door. Not one of them bothered to greet or acknowledge us; they were busy discussing something among themselves. We stood there for a bit until one of them finally said «Do you have a reservation?» (not a hi or hello just a cold question if we have a reservation). The restaurant at this time was half-​empty. We said no, and so she, together with the other hostess, started staring at the computer screen and discussing reservations for what seemed like a long time. When they finally finished their discussion, they offered us seats at the bar stools as all the other empty tables have reservation within the next 30 minutes. We have a toddler with us who still needs a booster seat, so we can’t possibly plop him on a bar stool. So we said, no thank you. Because of the unfriendliness of both hostesses and the unwelcome vibe they were giving us, we decided to just walk away at this point and find another restaurant. As we were leaving one them had the audacity to ask if we wanted takeout instead… seriously??? !!
I think this company needs to retrain their staff on basic customer service. This is how this scenario should have played out: Greet customer warmly, inform them you are fully booked right now, but if you are willing to wait for xx amount of time, a table might become available. Also, since they were not expecting people until 30 minutes later, they should have considered squeezing us in anyway as by the time the 30 mins has lapsed, other tables would have already opened up. I mean it’s a pizza joint for goodness sake and not a fine dining establishment where people dine for over 2+ hours! The unfriendliness of the staff really left a bad taste in our mouth.
Well the jokes on you as you just lost out on all future business from us.

This place has some of the best meatballs and pizza in town. All their plates are decent sizes, it’s family friendly, and their food is always consistent. Doesn’t come with the attitude of some of the Italian restaurants I’ve been two. Great for any occasion.

Our families favourite spot for authentic Italian food! Great place to bring your little one’s they’re very accommodating. We love Cotto!!!

First, the food. Excellent pizzas — worth every penny. They were just genuinely well done. We ordered an array of appetizers and they all rocked. There was lots of Italian flavours jammed into each dish and they were just great.
Second, the service. Our first server was great. She was attentive, present, and just did a good, better-​than-​standard job. But others servers did pop by from time to time and asked us the same questions our own primary server did so we lost track of who actually had our order. I commented at the time that it seemed like there were lots of people doing lots of jobs and no one was actually responsible for any.
Our server’s shift ended and a new server came to introduce herself. Then we didn’t see her for a long time. We actually had to flag down another server to order our entrées. She came back so infrequently that she probably missed $ 20-​$ 30 in drink orders. In addition to that, I spoke to her a couple of times and because the place was so loud, she misunderstood or otherwise didn’t hear me and our orders almost got jumbled because other people at my table caught that she didn’t quite hear me.
We probably won’t be back to dine on account of the service, but if we lived closer we might get take away.

I went to cotto a couple days ago.
I had a seafood pasta which was really good also tiramisu for dessert but
our waitress never asked me how is the food or never came to ask any drinks …
but she came to us kind of quickly for bill.
if I had better customer service … I think I would give 5 stars but not this time.
I also disappointed that our waitress though away my pasta so fast… (that for take out)
when I left restaurant I realized that i forgot my pasta right away (that was like 3min after i left)
But when i came back, she told us she already though away…
I would understand if restaurant was crowded or busy but at that time restaurant was not busy at all. almost no people.

Food is always amazing. Just had the braised beef gnocchi yesterday. So good. We started by sharing the antipasto and beef carpaccio. Decent selection of wine. Wish they had more beer on tap, though… Especially when there are a few micro breweries down the street in Port Moody.

Cotto is a higher end pizza restaurant compared to all the other pizza places on Hastings. You can actually sit down and have a meal with your friends and family. It does get pretty loud during the weekends or if there’s a game on, but that’s perfect for me.
I had the Burrata to start and it was good, but I’ve had better. For the main, I shared the Penne Chicken Pesto, which was on the plainer side for me and the Pappardelle Carbonara, which I loved. The Carbonara had the right amount of pancetta and roasted garlic. I almost wish I wasn’t sharing.

Went for lunch with girlfriends and found the service to be terrible. They were understaffed and the restaurant seemed poorly managed. Food was just okay. There’s so many other awesome restaurants in this area. We will never come back here again.

Cotto is quite a popular place, so it’s a good idea to book a reservation on Friday or Saturday nights.
Cotto does a more traditional Italian pizza, which is quite hard to find in the GVRD. Don’t expect the usual piles of cheese and sauce you’d get at Panago or Dominos. The thin crust is prepared well and is just firm enough to hold all of the toppings.
The place is a bit expensive, but a good place to have a larger lunch or dinner.

Had a great dinner last night, we enjoyed the Penne Chicken Pesto and the Cannelloni Carne. Both were amazing and fresh! The place was packed at 7:30 Wednesday night but there was room at the bar which also had great staff who were very attentive and prompt.
The Parallel 49 — Old Boy Classic Ale is a great dark beer with an amazing light nutty/​roasted taste and being a full beer it came out with a thick white head.
Finished it all off by sharing an order of Bomboloni, I should have started with the desserts as all of their options sound perfectly sweet and rich, bit the Bomboloni was great to finish with. Just the right amount of richness to end off a perfect dinner!

We came around 4PM Saturday to a nearly empty restaurant (the waitress really emphasized how we had to be out of there before 6PM before all the people with reservations got there). We were promptly seated by a sliding glass door to the outside that froze us every time it opened, and had to move. I do realize that Vancouver is having something of a cold snap, but I think adequate heating is kind of a requirement for fine dining: we wore our puffy winter coats the whole meal, as did the other patrons who were eating there.
I had the Pomo Verde pizza (fennel, fennel sausage, herbs, and apple if I remember correctly), which was tasty enough if a little underdone and doughy. My dining companion had Spaghetti alle vongole, and did not enjoy it at all: her words were «watery, flavorless, and not enough salt». I’m not a bivalve fan so I didn’t taste it myself.
The ambience was a bit strange: there were big TVs everywhere with sports playing loudly and a bar to one side, but the rest of it seemed to be aiming for a traditional «romantic» Italian restaurant vibe: the two don’t really mix. It was only towards the end of the meal that I realized what made this experience eerily familiar: Cotto Enoteca is trying to be a fine dining version of Boston Pizza. While Boston Pizza ranks very low for me when it comes to Italian food (it’s American-​Italian fast food, really), it’s about half the price of this place, and delivers the same pizza and sports bar experience. If you want that, go there; if you want fine Italian dining, try any number of a dozen better places elsewhere in Vancouver.

My family and I were looking for a place to eat and had been wanting to try Cotto. We started off with the calabrese salad and the charcuterie platter. We followed this with 2 pizzas and a pasta with meatballs. I should have written this earlier because I can’t remember exactly which pizzas and pasta we ordered but I do remember how good the pizza was! I’m not a big fan of thin crust but this was a happy medium between thin and thick crust pizza for me. I would definitely go back for the pizza!

Was surprised on just how busy they were for a Sunday afternoon. After receiving our Calamari it became obvious why they were so busy.
Wonderfully light for deep fried with a nice balance of garlic and two dipping sauces.
Then came the homemade gnocchi with mushrooms, penchetta and a great sauce that enhanced the quality of the gnocchi.
Great service with slightly above average prices but give me that quality and I’ll gladly pay a little extra.

I’m basing this review on happy hour.
From 2 to 5, 6 different kick-​ass appetizers on for either 5 or 8 bucks. Nice drink menu too! The even have a point collecting app for frequent diners.
My phone ran out of battery and the wonderful hostess offered the use of her own personal cable to charge my phone. Above and beyond!

I am in town from Montréal, I went here with my family last night, they had been a few times and found it passable. But if you really want good Italian food, this is NOT where to find it. These Unilocal reviews are deceiving. The pizza was good I suppose, nothing to write home about. We had both the margherita and capricciosa pizzas.
Italian cuisine is simple, and hard to mess up. if you know what you’re doing. This is especially true of pasta dishes, clearly cotto has a lot to learn. My brother ordered the meat cannelloni, the sauce was barely existent in the disgusting pool of oil that was his dish, almost untouchable (he was starving and ate the unsatisfactory oil cylinders regardless) my dad and I split the linguine vongole, this sauce was not nearly as terrible as my brother’s, but it was close. The pancetta in this dish is obviously extremely salty, and the clams only add to the salt content, you would think that the cook would salt the sauce accordingly, perhaps not add a profuse amount of oil due to the fatty pancetta… Well I was sorely wrong to presume they knew what they were doing, and this was another disappointment that we were sorry to have ordered.
My mom and I got the drink special which were bellinis, they were terrible, bland and I don’t know if they messed up or they just don’t know how to make a drink, but it was almost like they poured a bottled wine spritzer over ice and then had the audacity to call it a Bellini. We got sangria next and were underwhelmed again, maybe we just weren’t ordering the right drinks but judging by the entire experience it seems this place is just not worth the time.
On top of the terrible pasta, and drinks, the service was absolutely despicable. Our server couldn’t get our order right. Also at the start we weren’t served bread (they used to bring bread to the table apparently, but don’t anymore) and when my brother requested a roll to soak up the sauce (flavoured oil) they served his cannelloni in the server said she could only «punch in an order of bread» which we declined, we weren’t about to pay for bread, after the experience we had. The server was extremely unhelpful, and made absolutely no effort whatsoever to make our time there more enjoyable.
I don’t know if people in this city are just used to experiences like this, and perhaps that’s why there are actual good reviews. But honestly if you want terrible food, service, and drinks, then by all means dine here. We won’t be coming back.

This restaurant was surprisingly crowded for a Sunday; I took this as a good sign. A quick drive from downtown, we had come on recommendation of friends from the area, and for a casually-​paced «Sunday dinner» for four outside of the city, it did not disappoint.
Décor is modern — dark wood and matching trim abounds, and the ambience suits the restaurant’s ‘pizzeria’ aspirations. It avoids the slick chain restaurant look while maintaining a neighbourly atmosphere.
Perhaps due to the crowd there (we sang along to two Happy Birthday renditions), service began rather slowly and impersonally, but quickly warmed due to an exceptional server who enjoyed the banter and genuinely seemed to enjoy her work.
As a bonus, we were told that wine bottles are 25% off on Sundays. We didn’t need much convincing to order a bottle for the table — and the prices were within reason to begin with. We also took advantage of the three-​appetizer special.
One odd thing that I noticed is that water is served in full-​sized wine glasses. Once we ordered the wine (with new glasses), three appetizers and wanted to continue drinking water, we simply didn’t have enough room for everything on the table. Either we needed a larger table, the restaurant needs to serve water in smaller tumblers — or the dishes are too large. This, however, did not detract from the the food itself, which was standard Italian fare — well-​presented, large in quantity, and quite heavy on olive oil and sea salt.
The Capriccioso pizza was very good. The crust was light with good texture, and the pie itself had plenty of prosciutto on top. We did not need to saw at the crust to cut pieces, and the arugula was fresh and light.
We appreciated the lack of blaring background music found in many restaurants of this kind and enjoyed our conversation at normal speaking volume.
This casual dinner in what seemed like a beloved neighbourhood restaurant offered a pleasant, refreshing meal. We agreed that we wouldn’t hesitate to return if we are in the area again.

Second time here, second review. Ordered the olives for an appetizer and had to send them back after eating 2. They tasted like you just chewed a soft hunk of rock salt. I could actually feel my blood pressure sky rocket.
Then ordered the fried artichokes, those were good.
Pastas for dinner, my husband had the linguine polpette which was part cream sauce and part red with meatballs. This was very good.
I ordered the linguine boscaiola. I liked it, my husband did not. It was a little like hamburger meat with a cream sauce.
I hoped the second time here would have been better, but we most likely won’t return.

I love this place! I live close by in the neighborhood so this is my go-​to place for pasta. Daily specials run throughout the week and my favorite days are Mondays ($ 12 pizzas) and Tuesdays (specials on all pasta dishes).
The pizzas are great — thin crust with the perfect texture and saltiness and topped with fresh toppings. The quality of the food is very good for a very reasonable price. Great value without heading into the city for my Italian fix.
