Guess

I was in Metrotown for some holiday shopping with a bunch of friends and noticed that some new stores opened (it’s been a while since I’ve been in Metrotown, therefore, not surprised that this and some other new stores opened). This is a Guess store strictly for accessories only, no clothing. The store is well organized so that you can browse without the clothes being in the way. Sales people were a bit too pushy for my liking.

To be fair, there was a really nice girl who helped me out who had the best customer service. I did see several people who had big smiles as I came in, and greeted me when I came out as well.
But I ended up getting ‘serviced’ by one rude gal. I asked for a shoe that I was interested in thanks to a previous nice girl who had asked me if i wanted to try on heels with a dress, and I fell in love with it so I came back months later to take a real look at the shoe.
Firstly, girl already didn’t look as friendly. but whatever, some people may have a had a bad day. Found the shoe size, put it on, checked it out. Probably the same shoe months ago that they had back when I was given it to try on, so I ask if they have another pair. Apparently that was a big hassle, even after I explained, I’d like to get this shoe but it was tattered, worn down, scrapes around the heel.
This was apparently unacceptable, as «all other shoes are worn by other people in the store.» Which I understand, but a) I’m still not going to buy a ratty looking shoe, and b) ended up finding out later the shoe was the last pair in all of lower mainland, most likely the default heel for people to try on in the change room with their dresses? c) shoe was on sale so I guess the girl thought that it being on sale justifies ratty quality. (shoe had strings coming out of it, bottom looked beat)
I’d buy that shoe for $ 30, not $ 70. Guess quality isn’t THAT amazing ok? Sure the average shoe is $ 130~ as you so snobbishly said, but it really isn’t THAT amazing, especially the ones you showed me.
And if I state my reasons to you, I don’t need your exasperated attitude, because I simply don’t want to buy a ratty shoe. I even politely asked if there was a chance of a discount and she looked at me as if I were insane. (I know it’s not common but I risked it anyway).
I’m a very quiet person, who simply just tried on the shoe, and asked if there was another pair, and stated my reason for not prefering the shoe. But the attitude was like a teenager being forced to do chores. You’re hired there, so please do your job.
I work in retail too, and deal with rude customers all the time, but I can tell you, my simple quiet preference that I did not like the shoe and if they had another does not mean I need to feel like I am a overbearing customer. If you want to rate my own fairness on this, I don’t agree with a lot of people below me about hovering cause’ I know we’re being paid to do that, but I’m PRETTY sure that pleasant customer service in this very regular retail situation did not need that attitude.
Oh, also, the other lady on the counter that somehow absorbed the the girl serving me’s attitude, that wasn’t really needed either.
I went to Guess Accessories, upstairs, the girl there? 100%. Understood that I would not buy ratty worn items even if they were on sale. Helped me as much as she could, even wrote that the name of the shoe (did not request any of it at all!) Then I told her about my experience here when I gave her the same conditions of what my own customer treatment.
She also managed to help another lady at the same time. The Guess store was empty at the time, with 4 people working, while this one was just 1.
Shame on this employee. If I weren’t willing to cause a scene, I’d have a quick word with the guy who had asked me if I was being helped while she sulkily went to go find if there was another shoe (Boo hoo!)

So, being the mall was empty today and I happened to be walking past the store, I thought I’d stick my head in to see what’s new. Not even 3 seconds in the store and I had about 3 middle eastern men come up to me (like flies on sh*t) to tell me that only for today, everything is 30% off. I thought they were going to start selling me phone cards, like in New York. They were all wearing leather jackets so no idea if they were really employees there.
This store has sunk to an all new low and makes Guess so cheap and sleazy now. What the hell happened to this store? I’ve lost any respect I had left for Guess.
Seems like some mafia runs the store now. So desperate for sales and by adding these kind of pushy tactics, it’s pushing away all the customers. Funny how Guess never responds to any of the postings in Unilocal.
Not stepping foot in this store ever again.

So I’ve heard from a lot of people that the service is horrific at this specific store and I definitely saw that today. This evening I was looking for a specific watch and this male employee didn’t see it in the case, so he asked his female coworker to check the back and she happened to find the one I was looking for. Once she brought it out she left it at the front for me to pay, jokingly she asked if I WANTED TO LOOK FOR A MATCHING WATCH BECAUSE I WAS BUYING ONE FOR MY BF… I get it you want that extra commission but come on desperate much. After this another female came up to ring me in I handed her my SPC CARD, so that I could get a discount. she took my card and then had another female employee interrupt who took over. Once this employee took over she wanted to charge me… I asked if she had used my SPC Card she said huh?.. I pointed to it on the counter she then grabbed it and read it over… After all this she asked for my student id… Okay I get it she wants to check if I’m a student, but as I handed it over to her she dropped it in the receipt printer. Once she pulled it out and handed me back both cards she laughed and rolled her eyes.
TALK ABOUT RUDE. I WILL BE CALLING THE MANAGER TOMORROW MORNING AND FILING A COMPLAINT.
I WILL NEVER SHOP AT METROTOWN GUESS AGAIN!
Oh and when I asked her on the warranty and return policy she didn’t know how to answer any of my questions… GREAT JOB GUESS.
