Unless you plan on not claiming any accidents I would suggest staying away from CNS and you won’t find anyone has your back at HUB insurance when the big boys try to screw you.
I was a client of HUB insurance for 6 years and was signed up for car insurance with CNS through them. I have just had the most dissappointing experience with HUB and CNS. To be fair I will start by saying that I never had any major issues with HUB the entire time I used them as my broker… And CNS was always professional and speedy with any claims I had.
Now for the really crap part which has pretty much erased all the stars I would normally have given. The other day a HUB agent called me to tell me that CNS had decided to «quit» me and that I had a day or two to find new insurance. When I asked why, she said I had made too many claims (ie the amount of profit they were making off me wasn’t as big as they liked).
I thought back to the last 6 years and don’t believe I’ve made an abnormal amount of claims and the claims themselves I was also not at fault for. Two windshield cracks and two hit and runs in completely different locations while my car was parked in legitimate parking spots.
So why is this coming up now and why do I only have a couple days to find new insurance? Turns out CNS had wanted to quit me 6 months ago but it was never followed through and now they want to cancel my policy asap. I argued that I was working over the next two days and it was a bit rude of them to think I’d be happy and able to find new insurance in such a short time. I asked her to help me find new car insurance (seeing as she’s a broker) and she said because I was denied from one company she couldn’t help me with any other insurance company, it was their policy.
What a strange way to treat a client who has always paid premiums on time, has a perfect driving record and has only made claims that were no fault of their own whatsoever. I’m extremely disappointed and disgusted with the treatment and the abandonment I’ve experience from HUB.

It’s amazing what one can learn just from talking to the professionals. And I’m only here discussing car insurance…
Met Lori at the show, and though I’ve heard of Hub for commercial insurance, she mentioned that you can buy your comprehensive coverage from a private insurer, and in most cases, cheaper than ICBC. I’m all for giving less $$$ to the government ;)
And it totally makes more sense; private insurers don’t need to pay for high overhead, salaries at all those claim centres, etc.
So gave my car VIN# and insurance papers, proud to say I’m a Roadstar (sorry to brag), and did save me almost a few hundred bucks — that’s food $$$.
But by law, one does have to buy the basic coverage from ICBC. And the cool thing with private, HUB says if you get into an ‘at fault’ accident, ICBC can’t record this on their books, since they won’t know ;)

I dealt with HUB Intl at the Richmond Automall today. They refused to conduct a standard transfer of a vehicle my brother and I were selling as powers of attorney for our dying mother. They rejected the original legal power of attorney despite its stamp of authenticity. When I tried to speak with the «acting manager» Vincent Cheng on the phone, he raised his voice, repeatedly interrupted and hung up on me even though I used a calm approach. They insisted they needed our incapacitated mother to sign and could not respond to our question asking them how we do that with a comatose septuagenarian. They were clearly untrained, rude and unreasonable. We went to the London Drugs Insurance counter at 5^th Road and Steveston Hwy where it was processed in 20 minutes without any problem.
Moral of the story: If you want competent, professional auto insurance services, avoid the office that «specializes» in this at the automall and head to your local drug store.

Dealing with insurance can be a hassle: life, condo, medical, dental, travel, auto… you name it, I’ve got it! So when I discovered Hub a few years ago, I thought I had hit the jackpot for my car. These insurance agents will come to you! Whereever you are! Fantastic for someone like me who is always on the go! They even found me a private carrier which reduced my annual premiums by a decent amount.
So what’s my lament, right? Over the last two years, I’ve been passed around from one bright-​eyed-​bushy-​tailed youngster (yes, that’s right I’m calling people youngsters today) who have barely been able to get through the paperwork without making a mistake. Not to mention they forget what time we agreed to meet, they get the meeting place wrong, they leave critical pieces of paperwork with me leaving me to mail them back… they cause me some severe eye rolling action.
But, it’s only once a year, no big deal right? You forget about it until the next year, kind of like a physical.
But today my eyes rolled so far back in my head I thought I’d loose a contact: p
The scene:
I called the office phone number, explained I had my insurance with them and was cut off while they transferred me. (Of course I forgive this, because that might not be rude, that might just be efficiency). After speaking with an agent who couldn’t find my policy at first, I was informed it would be no problem to have another driver added to my policy, as per my request.
Minutes later, I was getting a phone call back from said agent, saying she couldn’t help me at the call centre because I had gone through a «commission paid» rep and I would have to contact them again.
*Sigh, entering bright-​eyed-​bushy-​tailed youngster*
Re-​explained, played phone tag with her, thought that she understood what I believed to be a simple request. Unfortunately she never did get back to me on my actual request. Meaning, I’m stuck with one person insurance when I need two person insurance and with a possible serious eye rolling condition (haha)
Phone manner — passable
Customer service — laughable
Getting the job done — fail!
