Qoola Frozen Yogurt Bar

Definitely my go to for an afternoon snack! I love this place, my co-​worker and I come at least once a week to get our froyo fix. I like that they have many options for frozen yogurt including sugar free for days I’m trying to keep my intake low. But the toppings, I can’t stress how much I love the toppings. You can choose from variety of fruit if you’re more of a health nut, otherwise chocolate, candy and the poppers (little balls with juice inside) are the way to go! I tried Qoola for the first time today and I had a lovely experience! There was no lineup so I was in and out in no time. I had to rush back to work otherwise I definitely would have sat and enjoyed my froyo. The store is very bright and welcoming!
Everything is self serve so you can add as much or as little of the toppings as you would like! They have a little bit of everything: fresh fruit, chocolate, candy, syrup, you name it! The store was clean too– no crumbs or froyo anywhere out of place!
I got to the counter and was told that my froyo would be free if I could guess how much it was prior to it being weighed– HA… Don’t forget to pick up a Q card on your way out and register online for sweet benefits such as free froyo on your birthday!

I am not a fan of yogurt but for the price to cool you off in the summer, its well worth it going in and grabbing Qoola.
They have lots of choices on topping. Best of all the topping and the ice cream changes according to seasons.
The décor is clean and the people are quite friendly.

For this bout of froyo, I got a mix of Mango Strawberry Sorbet with added Green Tea Mochi, Brownie, Cookie Dough, and Pomegranate. I know, the pomegranate was a mistake, but my first thought with it was «If they include pomegranate as a topping option, shouldn’t it be good?» All it was in the end was a lot of work and a lot of seeds. Save yourself the time and skip any toppings with seeds. The froyo itself was good. The self-​serve dispensing machines didn’t freak out and the froyo came out in a fluid soft-​serve stream. The amount of topping options is pretty staggering, but feel free to go nuts. I wouldn’t add too many of the sauces as they can melt the froyo faster and drown out the flavour. All in all though you can’t go wrong with a hearty bowl of froyo here.

This is my favorite place to go every time I visit Metrotown. Love the fact that you do everything yourself from picking the frozen yogurt flavor to fruits and toppings. Since it is measured by weight, it makes you extra careful in terms of what you add to your cup! Definitely make it a health-​conscious dessert place :) Love it

Although this place is definetily about self-​serve for more than just the frozen yogurt. You won’t get offered too much in the way of service but it’s choices are top shelf in term of fruit and extras. Plus every now and again you can find a groupon that doubles your value. Extra yum.

All organic frozen yogurt — can’t get any better than that.
So Qoola is making the transition to organic and I can’t be happier. The mango fro-​yo is definitely my favorite.
Seeing toppings like their fresh fruit, flaxseed and the many different nuts like walnuts and almond slivers are great!
I will be coming back.

The tart flavour is their most popular flavour! It’s tangy, not too sweet, and goes with virtually every topping.
I’ve also tried their New York Cheesecake flavour, and it was delicious! Cheesecake in frozen yogurt form, what could be better than that?
The Tropical Tart flavour is awesome as well, peachy, mango-​y, and tart!

I walk past Qoola every time I arrive at the mall, and again as I leave, so after several years I finally decided it was time to try it out. Unfortunately, I can’t say I thought much of it. In fact, now that I’ve finally tried Qoola, I’m baffled by its popularity.
I anticipated that Qoola would be expensive, and it was. Not as pricey per unit as say gelato, but ultimately more expensive than gelato because it’s lighter so you need more of it to be satisfied. Too expensive to be a frequent treat, certainly. The serving I had would have been enough for a breakfast or light lunch substitute, with raspberries and chocolate flakes, and it came to around $ 8. I’m a cheapskate, so for me the price is a major deterrent, but for less budget-​conscious people it may not be a big deal.
I also really don’t like Qoola’s pay-​by-​weight system, particularly since there’s no scale out in the self-​serve station you can use to check the weight of your stuff as it amasses. I’m sure they would let you check the weight at the till, but it feels a bit embarrassing to ask — as though you’re standing there counting your dimes.
What I was truly disappointed by, though, was the yogurt itself. I tried the vanilla and the strawberry-​banana flavors, and they both tasted like ice cream (and closer to McDonald’s ice cream than Haagen Dazs). I guess a lot of people like their yogurt to taste very sweet and creamy/​milky, but I sure don’t. I like my frozen yogurt thick and sharp tasting — you know, like yogurt but frozen. I found Qoola’s fro-​yo very unsatisfying. It was so sweet that the chocolate flakes seemed too much, and the slight tartness of the raspberries was almost completely swamped by sweetness.
Someone in another review says that the Original flavored yogurt is the tartest. I wish I’d tried it. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any signs indicating that it was the one I wanted if I was looking for tartness. As it was, I didn’t try it because I was concerned it would be a bit bland.
The TLDR of it is: Qoola is quite expensive, the pay-​by-​weight system is annoying, and the yogurt is very sweet and milky like soft serve ice cream.
Definitely not for me, thanks. Next time I’ll try the Yogen Fruz.

So many good things about this place. From the service to the froyo! I might not be extremely health conscious but it’s great to know that there are some healthy and delicious frozen yogurts out there that cater to everyone (celiacs, vegans, etc).
Pretty tasty, I like their yogurt it’s nice and tart with a nice touch of flavour which ever one you may choose. Lots of toppings to choose from and you can pile on as much or as little as you like. Staffs are very friendly in helping you out if you’re new to the whole thing. Pricing is by weight so you can control yourself. A.

I thought qoola was the best as it was one of the first serve-​your-​own froyo chains in the city, giving the impression of novelty. Now that I know a little better, I’d say:
The froyo itself is below average
The staff usually seemingly disconnected and suspicious of everyone in the store (no need to watch me like a hawk, thanks), unless of course you get to go through an incident where they’re completely intolerably rude, clueless and down right ridiculous. I asked to get in contact with someone knowledgeable and they told me to come back another day, they couldn’t even process a refund since no one with enough managerial power to know how to was around. The employee training program definitely needs work.
The only reason I keep coming back is to finish the falsely advertised gift card they couldn’t refund.

Definitely my favourite location of all, spacious with its round centre to add your dangerous toppings.
I’m usually on it like white on rice whenever i’m finished shopping at Zara’s lol.
The usual flavours of yogurt, I like to keep the calories down by choosing vanilla before I add the chocolate chips, caramel sauce, maybe a turtle too if i’m behaving, & round off w/​some blueberries/​strawberries…
though i’m not sure about these ‘kiwi poppers’, prefer the chunks instead at Menchie’s lol.
but appreciate the open tables that’s blocked off somewhat from the mall, kinda like a patio seating.

I’d put this somewhere between a 3 and a 4, but I’m leaning toward 4 because the main issue I have is true of every DIY froyo place.
On the positive side, there’s a small little selection of flavours — when I went there were three sorbets and about seven yogurts, I believe, ranging from fruity to creamy to chocolatey, so there should be something for everyone there. The toppings were also extremely fresh, which was great. Somtimes at these places it’s clear they’ve been out for ages. Everything was fresh and looked fantastic when I went in, including the fruit. Some of the toppings — mango, green tea mochi — I wasn’t expecting to run across when I went in. There’s tons of variety, and there are plenty of healthy options (nuts, fresh fruit) if you’re looking to keep your yogurt light. Since it’s DIY, you can mix and match, and try different flavours. Usually at these kind of places I try two or three flavours for some variety.
As far as the downsides, this, like many DIY, is charged by weight which adds up very quickly, and may or may not be worthwhile depending on which toppings you end up with. The other main issue I have is that there’s only one size cup to use — it would be helpful if they offered a smaller option as well.

I am in trouble, addicted to Qoola.

So many flavors! I love that you can serve yourself and combine whatever flavors you desire !

I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I was a little underwhelmed.
Sure if you’re looking to overtake your somewhat healthy frozen yogurt option with sweets, well, this is the place!
I was looking for a few more fruit options and I was shocked to only find a couple. I wasn’t even that impressed with these «exploding bubbles» everyone goes on about.
It was decently priced by weight, but overall I most likely won’t go back.

Qoola is amazing. Delicious yogurt, multiple flavours to choose from, awesome toppings — it really can’t be beat. Plus, it’s Canadian AND DIY — we don’t need no namby-​pamby counter girls to decorate our yogurt, we do it ourselves and we LIKE IT. I’m a huge fan of Qoola, and hope to see them expand beyond Burnaby and Richmond (but maybe not in a hard-​to-​reach area of Robson again).
Qoola is likely the only good advice my mother will ever give me, and it’s a keeper.

Just wanted to add that Qoola is still my favorite frozen yogurt treat, but DO NOT get the waffles. They ‘look’ great and the frozen yogurt on top is of course mmm mmmm good, but the waffles are nasty.

The only authentic American Californian/​New Yorker Frozen Yogurt. I enjoy mainly about this branch that it is self-​serve. I enjoy that whole personalizing your own desert and even though it is by weight, I don’t mind having a little bit more flexibility and creativity with your own food.
I just do not like where it is located. It close to the skytrain, and it is so close the exit of the mall. I prefer it to be within the mall so I don’t have to walk all the way around the mall to grab a desert. It could be convient for those who want to go to just grab something, and there is SO MUCH more traffic in the area, but it is just not a ideal spot to be.
We need more branches like this with self serve FroYo within Vancouver! I say out of the three branches I have went to, this will be my favourite for sure!
