Meet the Business Owner

Sylvia and Jim J.

Business Owner

For Jim and Sylvia, buying, renovating and re-opening the Cornerstone Music Café was a natural next step in their respective careers as a musician, and as a server and kitchen manager. The Café, with artwork on the walls of the owners as children — Sylvia, beaming, looking up from a mixing bowl and Jim, pajama-ed, experimenting at the piano as a toddler — offers an invitation to share in its owner’s passions. For Jim it’s music performance and instruction, and for Sylvia it’s wholesome, freshly-prepared food.“We have a passion, personally, emotionally, and I’d even say spiritually, for nurturing people with food and with music, and for turning people on to new tastes and experiences,” says Jim, «Sylvia grew up cooking with her family — her Grandmother ran a café in Irvine, and I’ve always been fascinated by sound.“While Sylvia would sneak her parents’ pots and pans out of their cupboards and practice her skills at the stovetop, Jim would cut classes to head home to get behind his kit.
