DQ / Orange Julius

#102: Known as Dairy Queen when it houses the complete menu, the location at Deerfoot Mall is known simply as DQ /​Orange Julius. Located off of Calgary Transit bus routes 32 & 69, next to Rory’s Barber Shop, and across the hall from Winners and A&W Restaurants, this location is the what I would call edited version of the full Dairy Queen. It contains a small subset of the full menu and the partnered Orange Julius also houses a subset of its full menu.
I gave it 3 stars (since 2.5 stars is not possible) since my 3+ trips there, while nothing special in terms of being organic or natural or unusual or even high quality foods, I do get good service from the people working there. Always friendly and smiling, I wonder if they are sneaking treats! I’d be tempted even with my food requirements.
One of my DQ /​Dairy Queen weaknesses is the Chocolate Extreme Blizzard Blast (or something to that effect, I just ask for the heavy Chocolate dessert dealio and the people always give me what I want and with extra chocolate (they need a tip jar so I can tip them)). I’m sure it’s full of empty calories and high fructose corn syrup (Canada’s glucose-​fructose) but I allow myself usually one a month. That’s about all the punishment my digestive system can take.
The location itself is in the main axis of the Deerfoot Mall with a number of tables and areas to sit and enjoy your snack. The counter is always clean which is a big plus. I just wish this was a full service location but with the changes coming to Deerfoot Mall, maybe this location will move to a larger space and carry the full DQ menu.
