Hoven Farms is a Certified Organic Beef producer. Our cattle is raised without the use of hormones or antibiotics, and are fed only grass and certified organic feed. We are also passionate about buying local and the organic lifestyle. Our market location also sells Prairie Roots Organic Chicken and Ewe-​Farms Natural Lamb.

History

Established in 1910.

Hoven Farms is a century old Alberta family farm.

Mathias Hoven moved to Eckville, Alberta from Hoven, South Dakota in 1909 with two of his sons. He rented some land for one year and then bought the land that the farm now operates on in 1910.

Tim and Lori Hoven and their 8 children own and operated the farm with Tim’s parents, Cecil and Carol Hoven.

I love their meats and I even MORE LOVE their raw dog food. My pup has food allergies and it’s great knowing he’s eating a great blend of beef.

I’ve been buying my beef from Hoven Farms for many years. I’ve tried pretty much every cut they sell and have never been disappointed. The meat is well textured and flavourful, so much so that a smaller cut is just as satisfying as a larger mass produced cut in my opinion.
They have always been very helpful, especially when it comes to special orders. They have brought cuts in for me upon request, no problem. And they are always happy to offer advice on portion sizes for larger cuts and cooking ideas.

Picked up a couple of TBones here. The steaks were delicious!
What impressed me the most though was the staff… helpful, they knew their stuff and really wanted to make sure customers had a great experience.
My only «beef» with this stand at the Farmers Market is that if two people are mid case, deciding what they want, no one else can really get in there to grab anything so you just stand there waiting, in the aisle of the market. Just wondering if there is a better way to lay out the booth or move people along faster. I could see where there would be problems at peak market times. Still probably wouldn’t prevent me from returning though.

Excellent quality meats. They also carry some unusual cuts, like the entire beef tongue and so on. Never a bad idea to pick up some quality cuts at the Hoven Farms. Family owned and operated.

I so badly wanted to like this place. I’m sure they have great products, but was turned off by the snotty lady working behind the counter. Boo! Hate it when that happens. So off to The Better Butcher I went.

The whole staff of Hoven Beef is awesome. They’re really good at helping when you’re looking for something specific. Also the meat is easily the best beef I’ve ever tasted!
