Best filled and crispy buns, little place in the basement. Go early or they will be out of what you want. I’m a big fan of the pineapple buns and my wife likes the coconut.

Not too bad bakery goods at Jing Jing. It’s in the basement of the same building as Happy Valley Restaurant. Bought some sweet buns like Custard Bun, Coconut Bun, Red Bean Bun, Egg Tarts, and a Coconut Tart. They are good and pretty fresh. The Egg Tart’s pastry seems to crack when you start to eat it. A bit of a mess. Otherwise, it’s good, too. Not too much meat items on the trays when I went at lunch time, closer to 1 p.m. Maybe they sold out?

I have struggled with the desire to become very fat for my entire life. That is, after one enormous meal, my immediate thought is to have another enormous meal. After eating a fairly hefty order of dim sum at U&Me, I decided to check out Jing Jing Bakery, which is located, conveniently for us fatties, in the basement of a building right across the street. A bakery in a basement must provide wonderful ventilation for the rest of the building. Also, this is what I love about Chinatown’s everywhere. The near chaotic order of it all. There are no empty spaces in Chinatowns, everything has something in it, and it makes for very colourful, beautiful neighbourhoods. So to the bakery, it’s tiny. Really tiny. I think there are just two ovens in the whole place, but they must have them running night and day because the place is jammed with pastry. I can’t even remember the name or type of the cream cake that I had(I think it was almond), but it was just amazing, and very inexpensive. I’d give this place more stars, but I’ve only been here once, so I can’t speak to it to a level I would find satisfactory, but I am definitely going back.

As you can tell, I’ve been indulging FAR too much lately. But you know what? You only live once… right…RIGHT!!! Jing Jing Bakery is located in Chinatown and they specialize in pastries, cakes and soft buns(fillings include bbq pork, ham & egg, curried beef, almond and mango, just to name a few). They also carry everything else from chestnut cream rolls to miniature egg tarts. A cool place to check out if you’re in the area!
