I was convinced to go in for a free assessment for refractive surgery when they called me and gave me an estimate $ 800 cheaper than Gimbel, and $ 200 cheaper than Mitchell. That was after knowing my prescription. I talked to 3 different people. The first was really young and sweet and did a general check-up and took photos of my eyes for the second person. The second tried to make me feel guilty about not lubricating my eyes and wearing my contacts for too long, making my eyes very dry and my cornea irregular. I understand, she has a point. But I hate hate hate being lectured or patronized by people, and I don’t even think she is a doctor. She was insensitive to my pain at one point, paused whatever she was doing to answer the door. I didn’t like her at all. Luckily, she’s not a surgeon. The third girl was young as well. She was nicer, but she kept repeating things like: «Well, because, you know, you have a HUGE prescription»… which I thought was unprofessional as it made me feel uncomfortable, as though it were my fault I have a high prescription. What ticked me off was that their final estimate was $ 880 higher than the one they gave me over the phone due to my «huge» prescription, which requires the advanced laser. The thing is that the person I spoke with on the phone knew my prescription when they gave me their lower estimate. I feel uncomfortable with their constant repetition of their lowest-price guarantee. This is about my EYEBALLS. Cost is a concern when we’re talking $ 4K, but I would rather feel confident that my eyes will stay healthy.
