Market on Macleod

They have the Rustic Sourdough Bakery that I love as well as many other quality vendors that I enjoy. It is pleasant and less crowded then the other Farmer’s markets. They went through an awkward transition phase so it had been awhile since I had been. Recently I have visited a few times and was pleased.
UPDATE.
Today my companion and I got a raspberry and strawberry smoothie from It’s All Good Organic”. I was expecting an okay smoothie, but these were the best smoothies we’ve had! :-) I wan’t to write a review specific to this business but could not find them listed. Next time I will get a large smoothie and try some of their other offerings.

A pleasant and charming market. My soul feels better for having come here instead of the local mall. Good and diverse food choices that are appetizing. Plenty of sittings areas to enjoy your food and doesn’t feel like a zoo (this is important).

Great place to grab a bite to eat. Love that Billsgate Fish Company is now there with their high quality seafood. New Age kiosk has some reasonably priced finds nice gift for Christmas. Go have a brows vendors are friendly, easy parking.

Ok so I love outdoor markets and meeting farmers and getting yummy fresh produce straight from the supplier. I also love street fairs that bring together a ton of local vendors to sell their products (especially things like marinated olives, the best!). However, I feel like the Market at MacLeod tries to do both of these things and instead of doing one well, I feel like they do both just ok.
Don’t get me wrong, you will find some produce and some great local products. However, I feel like the presence of one somehow detracts from the other. For instance, there were a ton of food stalls but the actual market part (with you know, fresh fruits and veggies) was super limited. Plus, I feel like if the whole was to have a robust food court, the vegetarian/​vegan options were also incredibly limited. That seems counterintuitive to me.
The vendors present, though, had quality ingredients/​products but the prices were super high and like I said, the selection was pretty limited. If I am going to pay those prices, I would like more selection. To be honest, I would rather just go to Community or Planet Organic and I would come to the Market for a good lunch.

You should totally come here to get your yuppie fix. I love the bubble tea and specialty flavoured pecans while perusing the organic soap market.
All kidding aside this farmers market is actually a great place to grab lunch during the week. Its rarely busy enough to make you want to get it to go and there is a good variety to be found. I alos like the over the top good desserts that can be had here.
Sometimes I skip work for a while to hang out and read while eating various chocolate things. Life is good.

It was my first time to a Farmers Market in Calgary. All the vendors are super friendly and their products look great. Sadly, I was hoping to see a few more ingredient conscious places as both my boyfriend and I are trying to avoid certain things, but I understand that these places need to make dishes for the majority of people and not the minority. I bought some great vegetables (a little expensive but local and delicious), a chickpea salad, some soups, and I caved and bought a pastry after trying a sample.
There is a lot to offer but do not go on an empty stomach. I still look forward to coming back here, maybe once a month, to replenish what i did purchase and to see if there are any changes to products. It was easy to find as well!

I’ve been to Kingsland a handful of times for fresh and tasty fodder. It is a lovely spot! I’ve only lunched there once because I find the food stand guys to be a bit expensive, but it’s right on the money for groceries.
Make sue to check how local things are. I get suspicious when I see kiwis at the farmer’s market, you know?
Also, shop early. We tend to go in the afternoons because our weekend mornings are busy, and some stands run out of the things you want. Last week we were left mushroom-​less, and I was heartbroken. Don’t let this happen to you!
One perk of going at the end of the day is the bakery sells 3-​for-​2 packs of buns. Holler for the discount. Holler.

I’ve been to Kingsland Market a few times now. This market is located just off MacLeod Trail where the old MacKay Pontiac dealership used to be back in the day.
Fresh fruits & vegetables make my heart swoon! They have EVERYTHING! I was quite surprised at the vast selection here. I sampled a delcious frozen lemonade slush puppie from a vendor in the food court, procured bushels of organic kale and even visited the holistic supplement booth for organic omega-​3 oil.
Although I am partial to Crossroads’, I gotta say, this place is Grrrreat!

First timer here and loved it. Picked up organic meats from Hoven Farms for step-​daughters no more chemo party. (I don’t eat meat but I heard the burgers & dogs were amazing).
Great selection of Mead — yay!
Good parking, decent atmosphere… I prefer it to Calgary Farmers for sure.

Great assortment of Produce, Fruits, Dairy and General Goods. A one stop shop for all things delicious. Great assortment of tropical fruits (Mangoes, Pineapples and Coconut) and always something new. Its not often you find a gem like this in a Farmers’ Market but I will certainly continue to buy from Market Fresh.

Kingsland is usually my go to place on Sunday mornings when a lot of places in the area are still closed before 11am. My husband and I would strategically take the entrance near the open area with tables so we can sample whatever it is they’re free tasting in the veggie/​fruit section. They were sampling mangoes for a few weeks and of course my husband would go every week. I like shopping for fruits and veggies here cos you can tell from afar from the colors how fresh they are.
After shopping veggies and fruits, we’d walk to the shawarma place so we can order a large chicken shawarma which we share. The chicken is a little bit salty but I didn’t mind because everything else is good. When we drop by and the owner is around, he always tries to talk to us in what little Tagalog he knows. They also sell good hummus (in varying flavors), chips, and pita bread to take home.
While eating our shawarma, we’d go around the market and check out other things we can take home. There’s a pastry place, a pizza stand with gluten-​free options, meat stand, deli stand, chips and dip, chinese food, ready mix for pad thai, italian food, gelato, wine, etc. I always end up buying something even if Im already done with my grocery for the week. To end our Kingsland trip, we stop by the crêpe stand where they always smother our order with nutella.

It seems Kingsland Farmers Market has really evolved in a positive way since I first visited when it opened up.
Things that I like about Kingsland:
–For such a small market, probably at least ¹⁄₃^rd of the vendors are food which means a variety to choose from; Indonesian, Indian, Mexican, Lebanese, French food, Naacos, soups, pizza, bagels, weird meaty place, fancy hot dogs, Kingsland has a ton of variety!
–The biggest companies I have probably seen represented at Kingsland are probably Community Natural Foods’ little booth, and Rustic Sourdough, both whom have their own storefronts. Also Coco Brooks I guess. The other vendors seem to really thrive in solely the Farmers Market environment which is great.
I do have to agree with Chris P in that this is a littttle less than a true Farmers Market as many of these businesses have been the same since the market opened up, which is kind of just like having their own storefront when they’ve been opened in the market that long. I would love if the vendors included changed up time to time (which I notice some of them DO), but the ones they’ve selected are still great.
I also love Kingsland support of festivals, and food trucks. Making use of the lot outside with picnic tables and sometimes festival happenings, is a really good move on their part.

A tad on the pricey side but people are pretty friendly and chances are, you will find what you are looking for. Going later in the day helps with the crowds. You can easily breeze through the whole market quickly so I suggest you go through once, price things out at each stand and then go back through again seeing how much money you can save! I love walking outside in the summer and wish they had more stands out there. Of course, some stands seem to have the leg up on fresh over other vendors but overall I much prefer to support the local growers than the big grocery store chains. What can I say though, fresh product excites me and gets my culinary juices flowing!
We always reward ourselves with a nice bottle of fruit wine there after shopping (under $ 20!), you have to at least stop for a sample!
This market is a bit far south for us to go but if we are down that way anyways we will usually stop in and stock up for the week. Thankfully, most places accept debit and credit cards. Parking has never been an issue with a large lot on site.

This Farmers Market has been open for awhile, and I live a block away — sadly my first visit was just recently.
To access it from MacLeod can be a bit tricky, but once there, there is lots of parking. Much smaller than other Farmers Markets in Calgary, but nicely laid out, and a nice variety of vendors.
We stayed for lunch and had Mexican food, it was incredible and authentic.
I will definitely be visiting much more often.

I can’t really say that the Kingsland Farmers Market is a farmers market in the true sense. It has less randomness and temporariness of a traditional market and is more of a place for small business owners to set up shop for the long haul. But it’s still really great.
The building isn’t much to look at from the outside, but on the inside they’ve done well with the set up and you completely forget that you’re inside an old car dealership. The interior has a modern yet rustic feel to it, is well lit, and does a good job in trying to get rid of the warehouse-​y feel of the building.
There’s a great selection of vendors. You can easily find lunch for under $ 10, maybe even under $ 5 if you really tried. Grab a cup of coffee or a fruit smoothie and wander from booth to booth. There are many food vendors like Coco Brooks that offer frozen items, kits, or other take-​home options so you can enjoy their meals on your own schedule.
What I really enjoyed was that the KFM is truly about food. There are some, but not an overwhelming number of non-​food vendors. I’ve been to a handful of farmers markets that seem to be more like flea markets because of the huge number of non-​food related businesses. KFM balances this ratio well.

Once upon a time I was super excited that we had a new farmers market opening up. Today, I’m still excited for Kingsland. It’s got yummy lunch time food and a great many local suppliers of deliciousness… like the Coco Karamel stall… which I may have washed down with a bottle from Fieldstone Fruit Wines once.
Most recently, I was there for Social Media Breakfast. I never would have thought to hold a presentation/​meetup at the farmers market. But there it was! Put in a little A/​V and it’s golden.
If you haven’t gone down to explore Kingsland yet, you should bump that up to the top of your list of things to do this weekend.

Small, but focused on quality. More than enough selection for most households and foodies like me with regular food cravings. While perceived as more of an organic market, I think the better description would be that they’re a quality market. Pricing are reasonable in most stalls considering that everything for the most part has come from within a 200 mile radius, and there are some notable outstanding booths that would do well anywhere.
Unfortunately, while it isn’t as crazy busy like the Calgary Farmer’s Market can be at times, it is a good deal more relaxed and no where near as noisy and annoying. I shop here weekly, and it’s always a pleasure (and my rare chance to partake in some of the pleasures). And unlike most markets, they’re genuinely involved in it’s local community and especially caring in informing the public on where there food comes from.

Small but mighty.
Calling this place a farmer’s market is a bit of a stretch since less than half of the booths contain products direct from the farm but really who cares, it is a manageably-​sized easy-​to-​access market with some amazing vendors.
You can pretty much pick up all of the fresh, organic produce and meat that you need from the limited merchants that they do have. What is also very nice is the wide array of prepared food establishments that they have for you to pick up a tasty lunch. There are samples around everywhere for you to try before you buy. Booths that stood out to me were: Rustic Sourdough Bakery, La Delicatessen, M for Macaron, and for my dogs, Spirits Pet Essentials.
The hours are very limited, only open Thursday-​Sunday until dinner time, Their parking lot is ample and with good access to major roadways. And you get in and out of this place easily in less than an hour even after checking out all of the booths.

I am fan of Spragg s meat, Lum s carrot and beet and Hoven beef.
Also fan of a new one Meadow noble goat farm. They have fantastic fresh goat cheese. Just Add some olive oil on toasted bread… Yum.
Support your Local Farmers. And stop buying at the big stores…

Kingsland Farmers Market opened in December 2010, but I only became aware of it when Global TV televised live events at the market. So on a Saturday, I decided to visit and was surprised how close it was to my workplace (Heritage building). Finally a farmer’s market that offers healthier lunch options.
The first thing I noticed upon my first visit was that it was a little tricky getting to the market. If you are going north up MacLeod, make sure you stay on the right and as soon as you pass heritage, watch for the sign and you will need to turn right and follow a tiny road under the bridge.
When I went, there was a lot of people, understandably since everyone came to check out the new market. Parking is tricky but over time, I’m sure it would not be a pain in the neck. Inside, the place was relatively small but the shops were squeezed together so that you can make several rounds around the building and visit different shops. Now to the nitty gritty, there were several shops that I visited and purchased from:
Sichani’s Mediterranean– I had an awesome falafel wrap and bought a hummus and spinach dip to go.
Wild About Salads/Irena’s Products– I tried their crab salad and nearly went insane because it was so good. I have definitely marked this spot as a favourite. I think vegetarian and gluten-​free dieters will like this place since they offer salad items (and identify if something is gluten-​free)
Smokey Lake Goat Cheese– it looked like a couple of guys occupying a minimal and casual space with their cheese fridge. But you don’t need 10 000 items to impress someone. Their goat cheese samples was enough for me to pick up a few flavours I liked.
King’s Orchard Produce/​Broxburn Vegetables/Lund’s Certified Organic Vegetables. I have to be honest, it was so much people I couldn’t tell which produce section was which. I just kept picking up whatever fresh veggie and fruit I liked.
I also purchased several cuts of deli meats from Jackson’s deli. What was funny was that as my mind was contemplating on the crucial ingredients of a sandwich, I realized I needed bread. So when I 180’d fancy me walking into the Rustic Sourdough Bakery. So I picked up a sourdough. Later that day, I had a sandwich worth bragging about for ages.
One place I am not too sure about, which can be supported in what I observed was a lack of people flocking to the place. Dorbel International Seafood was dodgy because they were selling fresh frozen fish (is that what you would call ironic or oxymoron, I don’t know) in boxes costing $ 115 dollars. As my eyes crossed over the price, I was told the price was a good deal considering the price sold at restaurants was much more expensive. I just smiled politely and moon-​walked my way out of there.
There were a few more places I wanted to visit but didn’t get a chance to. The meadery caught my eye like the scent of a roast hog drew in Friar Tuck, or the shine Prince John’s gold dancing in Robin Hood’s dream… I could go on. Oh there was also a place selling Indonesian cuisine. Oh I’ll be back all right, back with a pimpin wad of cash.
Wow, I realized that I was the first to review a FARMERS MARKET. That’s big leagues in the Unilocal world.
