I wouldn’t normally leave a review for McDonalds since everyone on the planet knows what their food is like. However, I recently tried the self-serve ordering and«Create Your Taste» burger and figured I’d share my experience. With the Create Your Taste burger, you can build a custom hamburger from the ground up. With options including artisan buns, monterey jack, blue cheese, guacamole, caramelized onions, and jalapenos, this is not your standard McDonalds sandwich. The self-serve station is touch screen with large graphics. Overall, it’s quite intuitive and makes for a fun experience mixing and matching toppings. Once your burger is «complete», you have the option of selecting sides and drinks. You pay at the kiosk and then pick up a small plastic GPS-like tracker. By bringing this to the table the serving staff can tell where you are sitting to bring you your food. Instead of the standard paper boxes and plastic trays, these burgers are served on a wooden board with the fries presented in a miniature metal fry basket. Service was prompt and friendly. While waiting for my food I noticed the manager out on the floor encouraging people to try out the self-serve kiosk. FYI, you can order anything from the kiosk, it’s not just for the Create Your Taste burgers. I’m a fan of self serve ordering, so I can see myself using this even for coffee orders in the future.

I actually really like this McDonalds. Super great service with great smiles and enthusiasm and consistent food that you expect from McDonalds.

Mid-morning during the week and the drive-thru is lined up out to the street. I’m not sure what the issue was but it took me almost 10 minutes to get through the line. The service was good and the food seemed freshly made.

When you go to McDonalds, you are going because you know what you are getting. But not all McDonalds are created equal. And this one, located on the edge of the Westhills Shopping Centre, is definitely one I avoid whenever possible. They always seem to be understaffed, long lineups at drive thrus, and staff that always get orders wrong or screw up till.
