Merle Norman Salon & Day Spa

I was given a gift card a while back for a birthday gift. Our home was broken into in the summer and the gift card was taken. 3 months later when I went to use the gift card I called the Signal Hill location. I explained what happened. She confirmed when the gift card was bought, and also that it was not used. I asked if I could use it and it was a flat out NO. I am very disappointed with this answer. I think customer service is out the window. I think if you want to maintain and build your cliental that you would honor a customer request, especially since you know the gift card has not been redeemed and probably won’t be if it has not been yet (it has been almost 4 months since our break in.)
A very disheartened client

This Merle Norman location has never disappointed me and I have gone dozens of times. I have had acne on my skin since I was a teenager and have tried numerous things to clear up my skin including dermatologist visits for tetracycline, etc. I went to Merle QP and started getting facials and at the start my skin seemed to be reacting badly but after a month or two my skin started to get better and clear up. I used the skin care line and the «miracol mask» and literally experienced a miracle. The wonderful ladies at this salon not only cleared up my skin which was life changing but also made me feel so comfortable and welcomed. I’ve never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my appointment, the people are so caring and they really help you make informed decisions which makes life really easy. They also have done my eyebrows many times and I’ve always loved them. This is the only Merle Norman I’ve been to but it is my favourite salon I’ve ever visited!

I booked a facial for my birthday at the end of May. They told me to go in about 10 minutes early to do my registrations. I was done about 5 minutes prior to my appointment time. When it came to my appointment time, the receptionist told me that they’re running a few minutes behind. 45 Minutes later, I was still sitting in the waiting room… and I got upset. My facial was suppose to be 50 minutes, but I’ve spent all my time that I had available in the waiting room. The manager claimed she would call me back, but never did. Never again would I return — probably not even with the best deal ever.

I have been to this salon/​spa about 3 or 4 times since they first opened. I typically go for a 90 minute massage and was beyond excited having found a place close to my home.
You quickly discover who Merle Norman shares their retail space with. While awaiting your Massage Therapist, you’ll be seated along with some… let’s say… aspiring superstars. That’s right, Calgary’s own Toddler’s & Tiaras. Young parents and their dolled up 2-​year-​olds filling out paperwork for Silverscreen Inc. with dollar signs in their eyes trying to calm down their nutbird youngsters. This salon and spa shares it’s space with a modelling/​talent agency. Maybe you could get a mani pedi and follow up your razzle dazzled toes with a Sears flyer audition.
My first experience here was on a Saturday with loud mouth ankle-​biters running around and crying just outside where my massage was taking place. My massage therapist was embarrassed, rightfully so. We laughed about it. Her name was Brandi and she was great, unfortunately however she is no longer here. After my massage I said to the receptionist «Who can I speak to about THAT?» *points at noise*…the manager was busy. I paid, I tipped, I went home to carry on my day with a delightful story in my back pocket.
Manager phones me, super apologetic offering a redo of my 90 min massage. That’s great customer service! I come back eventually to see Bandi again and it’s quieter this time as it’s not a Saturday. Since then, I’ve also seen Sandy (not sure of name) and she has been also wonderful, and it’s been quieter, thank the maker.
I know what you’re thinking «Megs, this isn’t the first review you’ve written about loud kids while getting massaged. Maybe you’re just picky.» And maybe you’re right, maybe I AM picky with my massages. But this massage comes with a happy ending because I’ll return thanks to the great MTs Merle Norman continues to hire and the great customer service I received from mgmt. Good job Merle Norman. Also, if you’re located in Douglasdale, McKenzie Towne/​Lake, New Brighton, etc you should try this location. It’s very close to these communities in the SE, just take the Douglas Dale east exit off Deerfoot and head towards Quarry Park.
