I liked the pub. Was in on Friday night for the live band. Had a lot of fun dancing until some old hag decided to soak me with her drive k, which she was aiming at my friend. My friend was naturally incensed. Kudos to the bouncer for handling it really well. I don’t know what her problem was, maybe we bumped in to her or something? Girlfriend was kinda drunk so probably. Will be back, and will hopefully stay dry next time.

The pub is dark and dingy, and the bathrooms are atrocious. No matter how much you drink, you can’t forget the copious amount of drugs on the toilet paper dispenser or how disgusting the toilets are. The staff is generally extremely rude. I do love live bands, but I prefer to go somewhere cleaner with a more respectful door and bar staff.

I only come here in the summers to sit on the patio. It’s always dead compared to the surrounding bars with patios and they have good happy hour prices. I’d never go to sit inside though… it’s pretty dark and dingy.

I have been a regular at Morgan’s for a couple years and I love it. I have always been treated with respect by all the staff, and have gotten to know most of them by name. They know me as well and I can order my drink with a nod and a smile, which is great. I understand the low ratings from other people. If you don’t know what to expect, or are expecting some fancy, sophisticated place, you’re going to be confused and/or disappointed. This place is unpretentious, loud, authentic and full of character. I go primarily for the live bands that play every night of week: Monday: drum & dj with go-go dancers(very much a club-type atmosphere) Tuesday: «BrokenToyz» sleazy 80’s hair metal cover band — great musicians with a great sense of humour — always busy and fun times! Wednesday: 3 different local«Indie» bands every week Thursday — Saturday: Different cover band every week, usually popular alternative/rock tunes Sunday: Either a cover band or local indie stuff. Sometimes«Three Way» plays and if you like Black Sabbath, you’ll love these guys. They charge $ 5 cover(includes coat check) Tues/Fri/Sat after 10pm. Bands usually play 10pm-2am, except for Tuesdays, when they play 11pm-1am. I’ve had wings there a couple times(wings are 25 cents on Wed & Thurs), and they’re pretty good. Depending on who makes them, I have gotten them with too much sauce/seasoning but never had a problem sending them back. Chicken fingers are good too. I’ve heard the steak sandwiches are excellent. They’ve got a bunch of specials and happy hour til 8 during the week, and a jam on Saturday afternoons. In regards to the people who’ve had a poor experience with the staff… Frankly, I don’t believe they would act any differently than any bouncers at any other bar. They have a job — to protect the patrons and the establishment. Treat them with respect, don’t be a belligerent, drunken idiot and they’ll treat you with respect too. Even when I’ve been asked to leave, it’s been done nicely and in two years I’ve never seen anyone treated any differently. Anyways, the bar itself is small and kind of dingy and has an unconventional layout — small dance floor, raised seating area(with good view of the stage) and a pool table in the back. Oh, and yes, the bathrooms suck, but that’s such a small price to pay for live music, awesome staff and the ever changing, interesting mix of people. Love this place! =)

If you come here, come to be ridiculous and embrace the culture that Morgan’s offers! I only do Tuesdays(I hope Broken Toyz NEVER retire or it will be a great loss) because it’s a let loose & dance like your a freak night. So much FUN!

I was on 17th getting Tattooed and decided to stop in after for wing night. Nice enough establishment . Our server was very nice and beer specials with wings can never turn out badly. 25c Wings and they were decent sized too. The first order we got 20 x Salt and pepper wings had so much salt on them that they appeared«Furry». Inedible as they were I sent them back. The Server was very accommodating and full of apologies; the reaction from the kitchen was… rude. I was told that it was 10% less than a lethal dose of salt and therefore shouldn’t have a problem. They refused o remake them and I had to ordered another type. Hot and honey garlic; both very good and worth the wait. I’ll go back but I won’t be getting the S+P Wings again, I’m pickled enough as it is.

Ah good ol Morgans. I generally only come here when my friend’s band is playing, but it’s always a good time! I ended up being here twice in one weekend to see aforementioned band play. Thursday was a quick drink, and Saturday was some dancing. It’s a good lay out, cept for the bathrooms. They have tables on the one side you can sit on, a little dance floor in front of the stage, then a huge bar and some pool tables in the back. Drinks are average priced, it usually gets pretty busy in there and good music. I would compare it to the old(good) back alley but in pub style. Bathrooms are atrocious though. It’s super dumb layout, super small and frankly just gross. But hey you shouldn’t be spending too much time in there anyways.

For some reason, I’ve never taken to this pub. Maybe it was because of an incident where a busboy grabbed my buddy by the collar for something minor(clearly doesn’t understand the risk involved with a move like that). Maybe it’s because every time I find myself here a death metal cover band is playing(ok, so that was twice). Maybe its because it takes 10 minutes of pushing and positioning at the bar to get a drink(always love it when I have to force myself to give an establishment my money). Maybe because its the first place I have ever seen someone wear lens-less glasses(I had to confirm it was lens-less to ensure that I was not extremely hammered). Cannot really say. I just hate it here, maybe I’m not cool enough to get it.

After reading the reviews and hearing about Morgan’s from the friends I was with, this was not the Morgan’s I was expecting. It was Monday night with a DJ, a drum kit, go go dancers, a $ 3 cover and $ 1 six ounce glasses of Alberta Genuine Draft. The crowd over at the tables looked more like what I had expected the crowd to be. The rest of the bar… a mixture of suits, bar stars and kids who shouldn’t be allowed in bars yet, or maybe I’m just getting older. The crowd around the stage consisted of a group of guys all staring at the go go dancers. Instead of some AGD, I went for a pint of Grasshopper(pints are $ 5.75). The bathrooms, well, those were on par. They were gross. I don’t even want to know what was smeared down the side of the toilet. I’ll try them out again for the live band experience, but so far, it’s not the dive bar for me!

This place is a fantastically good time. Get to know the bar staff and given the little turn over you are bound to consistently have a good time. The drink prices are average, food is substandard, however the service is outstanding as is the music. I’ve often noticed they have only one floor-server on staff(tip her well because Ronda deserves it) — I have no idea how she manages to keep everyone happy but frankly I have never had a reason to complain. By the way forget about stupid bouncers because you will never find friendlier guys weather you are a first timer or otherwise. Oh, but please note, I have only ever gone save Thursdays through Saturdays where they have a cover band play. These nights tend to be super busy with regulars and n00bs alike and I’m always glad to go but please don’t take this review to vouch for any other night. Still, I cant imagine this place being bad. Whatever management is doing is done well — kudos to them.

Hahahah, oh Morgans. I understand the poor ratings from other users — If you don’t know what to expect, or think you’re getting some kind of deluxe hospitable experience, then this is not the bar for you… I’ve actually only ever been to Morgans on a Tuesday night — although I hear it’s just as busy on any other night, especially the weekends. After being adopted by the same owners as The Back Alley, they’ve thrown a lot more money at weekly promotions. Tuesday nights feature Broken Toyz — Calgary’s favourite hair metal cover band. If big hair, eyeliner, and leopard spandex is your thing, then this is your new hang out. I can’t speak for the rest of the week — but I always know what to expect at Morgans, and I always have a great time. They have live music every night of the week, with about 40 seats to the side of the stage, and a mini dancefloor in front of the stage. With regards to the bathrooms — I once heard that they received the«Worst Bathroom Award» for a few years in a row, and apparently embraced it. If you think they’re bad now, you should have seen them 4 years ago! I think this is hilarious, but can’t find any evidence of it online. Anyone else hear about this? To thine own self be true, I suppose. So, don’t wear your fanciest clothes, and maybe don’t eat the food… I think Morgan’s is awesome. KLM

Morgan’s on 17th is kind of a dingy dive bar, which despite that, packs them in in droves. Maybe it’s the location, maybe it’s the live music, or maybe it’s the crowd. I tend to think it’s the latter. The demographic of the crowd at Morgan’s trends a little older than alot of other bars along the Red Mile, which is a good thing for a dude that did the bulk of his bar-hopping in the mid ’90’s. Come to think of it, that’s probably the last time this place got a good scrub and polish. No matter — just adds to the character of the place, in my estimation. So if you’re looking for an unpretentious, raucous, old time rock-n-roll bar, roll on into Morgan’s.

Although it looks contemporary and cool from the outside, this is mos’ def. not the case from the inside. Coming from your local germaphobe, this place is NAS-TY. The night I went, the music was alright, but the crowd was sketchy, as was the environment. The washrooms are gross, and unfortunately, so is the overall vibe. Never. Again.

I would like to write about Morgan’s, but unfortunately I don’t remember much of my nights spent there because the memories have been blocked by the truly disgusting bathrooms. They are probably the worst in Calgary. The stalls overflow, the locks are broken and it is covered in graffiti(not the good kind). The result is this really, really horrible two stall bathroom that makes you cringe just looking at it, so the thought of using it seems out of this world. Unfortunately there are no publicly available washrooms in the vicinity, so if you’ve gotta go, you have to go in there. Using those washrooms will haunt me forever — I will always be marked by that experience. A hole in the ground would be better(for real). In my brief memories: the actual bar has a fun, older crowd and a lot of rock music. Lot’s of black, lot’s of sneers, ok. I’d give it a go if you’re looking for something exciting but still low key. Just be warned, ok?

The bar itself is a bit of a dump, but I’ve had some fun times in here. If you like hard rock cover bands, I’d give it a go. What do you have to lose?

I’ve seen some bad bands play here who refused to play anything original. One drummer actually walked around with a Pearl drum jacket that he said he earned(presumably by playing in a number of bad bands) and wouldn’t take it off, let alone communicate to anyone. But that jackass aside, I’ve always had fun at Morgan’s. One night I met an old war pilot who took me outside to show me the lunar eclipse. There always seems to be characters in this place and I like that. There’s nothing worse than drinking in a bar with a bunch of boring people. The servers are all good at their job and Morgan’s can be quite entertaining once you look past the bad music. I did once hear a decent band there, so there is hope for that…
