Popeye’s is probably the best supplement place in Calgary. The staff here are very knowledgeable and can help you no matter what your goal(mental improvement, dieting, nutrition, body-building, etc.). They have a very wide range of supplements, mostly in the form of combo stacks containing proprietary mixes. They also have a few rarer(riskier) supplements for a decent price. Prices are competitive for a brick-and-mortar shop and there are plenty to choose from. The only issue is that they don’t have a lot of individual ingredients for making your own stack, so you have to rely on blends.

Looking for supplements, I searched for my trusty Unilocal app for proprietors of supplements. Seeing Angelo’s T. favourable review, I decided Popeye’s might be for me. Located on the east side of Macleod Trail, Popeye’s is easily visible by the large Popeye sign on 38th, go figure! Purchased some whey, creatine, glutamine and maltodextrin. I thought the prices were decent though I have seen cheaper, but not cheap enough to justify driving around to obtain said deal. So not bad price-wise. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. Every item I was looking for the gentlemen not only showed me where it was in the store, but made suggestions on which brand to buy and it wasn’t always based on the«it’s more expensive so it’s better» theory of sales. Really appreciated the service. The only problem here was that they didn’t have a smaller tub of malto. I ended up with huge tub of the stuff and unfortunately they don’t carry anything smaller. The store strength is that it contains large tubs of items. So if you use a lot, this might be the place for you.

I hate drinking protein shakes. They taste like an imposing combination of foot, aspirin, milk, and *insert protein powder flavour*. But Popeye’s carries a unique kind of Isolate protein in that when blended with water, it makes a more tolerable and lighter fruit drink. I just chug this cool-aid concoction down, and I get my post-workout protein fix. Great prices as well. Popeye’s always sends me special deal and coupons. On top of this, they ripped off Canadian tire and give out Popeye’s bucks that I can use no my future purchases. They also have reasonable prices on health food supplements like multivitamins, omega 3 oils, and CLA. They also carry items that the hardcore gym-rat requires: testosterone, glutamine, nitro-oxcide(?), and thermogenic pills. I don’t really buy into these now. Ladies don’t snuggle with bricks, they snuggle with teddy bears. WITH40 inch PYTHONSBROTHERRRRR *flexing*!!

Believe it or not, after years of watching info-mercials I finally broke down and bought a P90x box set. I am only in at day 3 and already feel results, especially in my arms and shoulders and my abs. Since I am on this vein, supplement and work out fitness stores are now on my radar. Enter Popeye’s simply because you can’t miss it and it is the land of huge tub bin supplements. Whilst entering the store I couldn’t even see the counter person because there are colossal pyramid configurations of plastic tubs all over the store. Finally when he peaked out I thought it was Popeye himself, this guy was totally buffed. I mentioned that I was on the program and he said don’t fall into getting the recovery drink that they sell, the DVD set is amazing but the recovery drink is lacking. Instead he pointed me to a bin of supplement product which just happened to be on sale. This he said would increase my energy and I wouldn’t have as much appetite. I left with a 5 pound tub the size of his one muscle at $ 59 and I am now drinking it every morning. It’s delicious, with all the wonderful flavours; chocolate, strawberry, mint, I choose the vanilla. Service was very good at this store, and his prices were amazing, if you are supplement minded you will like this location conveniently located on Macleod Trail.
