I went to Purr because they are one of the only retailers in Calgary that sell Pacifica Makeup.(A soon-to-be cult favourite for cruelty-free makeup users!) I really, really like Purr. It is a small boutique that is fully stocked with on-trend clothes and bags, gorgeous jewellery made by YYCers and a bunch of knick knacks for everything in between. I spent most of my time looking at the fun phone cases. I mean, the Fresh Prince case was screaming my name! There are a bunch of cases for iPhone 5 and 6, I can’t remember seeing cases for ‘roids or pluses, sorry about that eh? The cases are a bit pricey but in the same price range or less for a Kate Spade or Sonix one. Approx. $ 35 – 50. Too bad the Fresh Prince one was for an iPhone 5, otherwise my phone would be donning it as we speak! Another thing you should look at when you’re Purr is the hilarious birthday cards and cool patches. I know, right? When have patches ever been cool? I truly enjoyed the irony that they’re so ‘dweeb-ish’ its cool! I will definitely be a regular at Purr for gifts, for makeup, for jeans… for everything, pretty much.

When in Calgary this is probably one of my favorite shops. They try to support a lot of local artists and as such sell some really cool one of a kind jewelry pieces. As for clothing the selection is great and they carry a lot of cool and different brands which I love as that you can find something unique that everyone won’t be wearing. The store is quite spacious and really nicely laid out. There is nothing worse when you go into a store with too much merch for the space and you have to search through everything and are squished between racks, at least at a higher end clothing store. Also, it’s nice and bright and the staff is friendly, it is definitely a shop I enjoy going to.

Every single time I walk into this store I always forget that they don’t have guys clothing. So yeah, I feel weird reviewing it. I know the store on 17th has clothes for men, but since I end up shopping in Kensington a lot with friends, I usually end up here anyway. I’m not too sure why they don’t have clothes for guys, but I really wish I did. My friends always find such great pieces here and I always end up getting incredibly jealous.(Yet no matter how hard I try, I just can’t pull off a dress.) You might here that Purr is expensive and those rumors are usually pretty accurate. But if you keep your eye out for the sales, they are usually deep discounts, making frequent trips a requirement! Now…about that men’s section…

This Purr looks is far from purrrrrfect, it is lacking the bling that the one on 17th Avenue has so for this reason I thought that they had just moved into this location and were still working on the renovations. There were a lot of women in here shopping however and it was only Thursday afternoon. I was surprised that they actually had some sales rack with items under $ 20, some nice turtleneck sweaters for $ 4.99, seriously? At Purr? I was so surprised. The counter resides in the center of the store and it has a nice glass showcase that wraps around the central cash area of the store, here is where Purr’s jewellery accessories can be found. Other items compare to the higher priced items of the other location and the merch here isn’t as plentiful. Other than the smaller quantity, you can still expect good quality fashion forward items at high stellar prices.

The Kensington location of Purr is a little more formal than the one on 17th Avenue. The wide open space, all on one floor gives the salesgirls more license to ignore you. While this isn’t always the case, more often than not when I’ve poked my head into this store the girl continues talking on the phone. Great. If I’m paying a hundred dollars for a relatively shoddily made shirt, I at least ought to get decent service out of the deal. Not everything at purr is ridiculously expensive, but much of it is. It is also absolutely unique, adorable and quirky and amazing, so whenever I come in I am torn between outrage and outright lust. Beautiful handmade jewelry, embroidered jackets and fabulous shirts that cost so much money but are just amazing make my head feel like it might explode. This particular location focuses more on outerwear and clothing in general than accessories, but they have a selection of quirky sunglasses and cute purses dotted around the store. It is all women’s wear, as well, so don’t try and trick your boyfriend into visiting as he will not appreciate it.
