In the search for the best wings in Calgary, the Rock Lounge rates on the higher end. I was looking for a good local place for wings near my apartment and then found out about the Rock Lounge. I figured I’d check it out as it was rumored to have«like 50» flavours of wings to choose from. I definitely was not disappointed as there were many different options available in a whole range of heat. I sat out on the patio(which unfortunately was frequented by friendly wasps) and enjoyed cheap beer($ 4.25 pints or $ 15 pitchers) and good wings($ 0.30/wing). I tried the chili lime flavour first and enjoyed the unique flavour. The second flavour I had was one of my favorites, the spicy parmesan wing. I was very pleased with this wing as it had a perfect amount of heat with freshly grated parmesan as the perfect compliment. You can check out their flavours on their website(http://studio37calgary.c…). It’s also worth noting that: — They offer ribs($ 3/pound) with the same flavours during wing nights as well(Wed and Sun). — Happy Hour is from 4 – 7 Wed thru Fri. — They have live music here every weekend(which I plan to check out) — They have steak sandwiches with garlic toast and fries for $ 7 Wed thru Sun. If you want more information, I suggest checking out their awesome website. The one thing I wanted to point out is something funny that happened with the manager who happened to be serving my table. After I had asked him what the specials were, he misspoke and informed me that the pitchers of beer were $ 13. He later realized his mistake and came back to correct himself. As he acknowledged the error he offered me and my brother a vodka shot in repayment for his mistake. I definitely would have understood if he had just misspoke and acknowledged his error, but the gift of a vodka shot is the kind of thing that will make me a loyal customer. He provided us with a shot of green apple vodka with red bull, which may be my new shot of choice. Come check this place out, I’ll probably see you there.

Rock Lounge @Studio 37 is a spin-off of Studio 82 in the south; a hybrid of a live rock/sports bar, with a bit of a ‘dive’ atmosphere(but in a good way!) This place is in the same location and features virtually the same type of feel as the Rusty Cage that predates it. I used go to the Rusty Cage from time to time, so when this place opened-up I decided to try it out. I like it. Although, it seems to be dead most of the time. I think the only time I’ve seen it get really busy is on weekends. I like to go on wing night(Sundays and Wednesdays). They feature baskets of 10 wings for $ 3.00, with something like 50 flavours. I’ve tried about half the flavours in the place, and most range from bland/weird to OK, save one: Johnny Cash! I love spicy wings with a lot of heat and unique flavour, and despise places that cheap-out and use Frank’s hot sauce. Johnny Cash wings are probably one of the best hot wings in the city. I asked the server one time, who told me that the Johnny Cash sauce is made from scratch with a variety of spices and contains the infamous ‘Ghost Chili’, which gives it it’s intense heat. Since discovering the Johnny Cash wing, I’ve been going there about twice a month.
