Southland Leisure Centre

This review is only for the swimming pool, as we haven’t use other facilities.
My wife loves this place and goes there with kiddo pretty often. I’ve checked it out and was not too inspired — and here is why:
— Steam room was a joke. Like, seriously, where is the steam? Sigh;
— Huuuuugely overcrowded. Almost to the point of being unusable;
— Obviously, packed parking lot — you may not find a place;
— Little café at the pool serves the least healthy and most artificial food I’ve seen in a while;
On the other hand, important things for the swimming pool are present:
— Reasonably clean for such a huge number of customers;
— Designed well — water slides and waves are fun;
— Baywatch staff really does their job, consistently keeping an eye on the public.
That is really good.
Overall, I’d say that this won’t be a place I’d dream to visit, but once there — it is quite tolerable, and with a bit lesser crowd may be actually fun.

This review would have been at least three stars because for the most part I’ve had generally positive experiences with this leisure center. Until today…
My daughter was in the girls’ changeroom with her aunt when they were getting ready to go around closing time and there were staff power washing and mopping in the changeroom.
While my daughter was tying her shoes the employee power washed her foot, which left my daughter with a red mark on her foot.
While my daughter and her aunt were drying their hair the same employee asked in a very snobby way «I need you girls move out of the way».
Rude employees. Unacceptable behavior. In fairness, I’m adding a star because in the men’s washroom they were also power washing but the male employee was quite courteous and polite.
In conclusion, I think it’s great that they regularly power wash the floors in the washroom, this is a good practice that should be continued. What needs to change is how they go about this practice of cleaning the washrooms. Perhaps wait until all the people have left? Urge customers out via a polite PA announcement. These are better alternatives than power washing someone’s foot just to get them out quickly. Oh by the way this occurred before closing time. My only mistake tonight was failing to find the manager to file a complaint, leaving this review, I have no problem with. In fact I’m taking back the star I added. If I ever did that where I work I’d be fired.

So having lived in Toronto for the latter part of my childhood one thing I really miss is swimming at the beach with waves. Seeing that they is no beach in calgary, this will have to do. Been here 3 times, most recently
friend and I came here after trico centre’s pool was closed

Hose this place over trico because it is a dollar cheaper than trico, bigger pool, and larger waves, the decorations are better too, making it look like a real beach with palm trees. There are ropes to hang on to while you ride the waves, which come every half hour. My friend and I experienced the waves three times. We were about to go for a fourth time, but it was getting late, Dairy Queen is right across the street, so we enjoyed a $ 6 meal deal, including a sundae before we came here. The Aqua play structure is alsogreat, with water guns, and I huge water bucket and soaks everyone underneath when it fills up. Also, kiddie water slides, including the big orange one, but that drops off into the shallow end, so not too safe for adults. There’s the one that drops into the deep pool, but I don’t have the guts to go on that. there are rope swings in the deep end of he wave pool, to be used with the waves aren’t active. Also, hot tub and steam room are available if you need a break. Happy swimming!

For the past 2 years, my nephew’s birthday party has taken place here. No matter how old I get, it’s still fun. The wave pool is terrific & goes very deep, the water slides are a blast, and there is lots of room to move around as long as you’re there at a decent time.
What keeps it from five stars is that the ‘restaurant’ line goes so incredibly slow that you can end up waiting for 15 minutes just to get a soda.
Other than the above problem, great place.

I am an active member of Southland Leisure Center since July 2013. It is a great, fun place for all ages. The gym equipments are clean, relaxing steam sauna and hot tub are few things i must mention. Price is also very reasonable compare to some other commercial recreational facilities. Staffs here are very helpful and friendly! So, i highly recommend the center.

Its a great place for a family but if you are looking for a place to work out look elsewhere. Classes are crowded often full unless you want to come 15 – 20 min to some of them and wait for a spot.

Fun, clean, inexpensive… all that and a bag of chips as they say. This has become a regular spot for my partner and I to go with «the child». The water recreation part is our usual destination. We like it because there is something for kids and adults of all ages and while it is a popular place, it never seems to be too busy to enjoy. With a steam room and hot tub area (read: where grownups outnumber the kids) to the wave pool and waterslides, it is a great place to spend a few hours. I’ve always been impressed by how clean and well kept the facility is and how friendly the staff are too. They have vending machines as well as a small food kiosk onsite.
We’ve also been to a few different birthday parties here, from a jumping castle party (I believe you can rent them through Southland and they have tables for pizza afterwards) to swim parties, it seems to be a favourite of the birthday party circuit.

Wow. I can’t believe that Southland has been around this whole time and still going strong. One of my earliest memories as a doe-​eyed child newly arrived in Canada was going to this place. I remember being blown away by the waterpark and in wanting to do everything my friends did, forgot to mention that I couldn’t swim. This leads to me discovering the deep end where the slide drops off and a sudden flash of panic, leading to me being saved by lifeguard with the hairiest armpits I could remember.
Trauma aside, in my recent visit I discovered how much this place has improved. It’s almost like a mini-​Talisman center. Their weight room doesn’t have a track but compensates with great equipment. Their change room area is vast and provides easy transition to the waterpark. I also saw that they had a gymnastics area w/​rock climbing wall that I couldn’t get to because it was closed (probably required bookings) but it would’ve been a sweet way to practice some drills.
Shame I live quite far, this would’ve made for a decent gym to join

A great place to go with the family!
Pool gets busy on weekends, especially holidays.
They offer a great discount if you are with your child and only going to stay an hour (that’s about all the kiddies can last anyway).
Family change room is pretty crowded and someone walked away with my flip flops one time. (hopefully an accident since the family change room is all parents and children etc).
As long as you lock up your belongings you will have a great time with the whole family!!!
