The Springfree™ Trampoline was designed by New Zealand engineer Dr. Keith Alexander, at the University of Canterbury. After more than 15 years of injury prevention research, the design was commercialized in 2003 and is now sold in 29 countries.

Business Owner

Dr. Keith Alexander is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand and inventor of the Springfree trampoline.

Over 15 years ago, Dr. Alexander wanted to purchase a trampoline to add to the family backyard. Once he started researching trampolines however, he realized that the traditionally designed trampolines were dangerously flawed.

He was shocked to discover the high frequency of hospital visits by children being treated for trampoline related injuries and was disappointed.

Unsatisfied by what he found, Dr. Alexander set out to create a safe trampoline — removing hard surfaces that caused injuries (including the springs and frame), adding a net to prevent falls, and using only the highest quality materials for the trampoline.

After many prototypes and design trials, the Springfree Trampoline was born.
