Telus

I felt it was fair to review telus since I just reviewed shaw. My experience is actually with Primus but my understanding is that they are just a part of telus. I got onto primus/​telus only because Rogers dumped all their phone clients when they went cell/​wireless and transferred automatically to telus. I have spoken with them a few times over the last couple of years and have found them to be quite unhelpful. They will open a ticket for you and then not follow up on it. So you call them back with your ticket number and find out they don’t know how to fix your problem and it’s been moved to somewhere else…3 weeks later you may hear from them.

So disappointed! I used to be a big fan but will start expediting the cancellation of ALL my Telus services.
Telus should be embarrassed for putting an collection agency on my 92 year old mothers «overdue» account! When we cancelled her service we were told by the agent there was NO balance owing. Now, somehow, there is $ 103.00 owing. A mystery! You should be ASHAMED! Pick on somebody younger Telus! Not 92 year old dementia patients!

Telus was supposed to have internet set up for me when I moved to Calgary from Edmonton. They scheduled an appointment without telling me DURING THE DAY OF THE MOVE.
After I arrived on Tuesday, there was no internet till Friday. I had to spend HOURS haggling with them include two very painful hours with the phillipine call center in which the reps were completely clued out and spoke bad english. Unfortunately there is little else other than shaw so one is prettty much screwed when it comes to internet access

Oh… Telus…
Telus… or Shaw, Telus or Shaw. Both have so many negatives, and the only positives that both of them share is that most people need them in some way or another…
Which is the worse of two evils? I’m really not sure at this point.
I thought Telus had done a wonderful job of revamping their image, making it seem like they cared about their customers, shifting to a modern, youthful image, with cool deals and very attractive starting offers, to lure you into 3 year contracts.
I was really happy with Telus when I switched. The most important reason was, if I needed support, I could get support. With Shaw, I’d be kept on the phone for 2 hours before I even got a chance to talk to someone, who would probably redirect my call and I’d wait another 2 hours.
Service is actually OK. I think they’ve done a lot of build up their service quality, and most of these reviews are from back when they had a really bad reputation for poor service. I’ve generally dealt with likable people and they’ve worked through my problems fine.
The company itself? I don’t know. Are any communications companies not sleazy? If you could charge as much as you wanted for a service because it is pretty much a «necessity» in this day & age, wouldn’t you do the same? I guess so. Even if it’s shamelessly.
The internet is OK, it has weird ups and downs, but unlike Shaw, it doesn’t go out for days at a time for no good reason. Telus 1, Shaw 0.
Service Quality (customer representatives — ONCE YOU GET A HOLD OF THEM) — pretty even, I’ll give a point to both of them.
Service Wait — Shaw wait times are a joke. There is and never will be a world where Shaw wait times are acceptable, unless they dramatically fix them. I’m going to give Telus 2 for this one, just because Shaw is so horribly and embarrassingly bad. Telus 4, Shaw 1.
Price — Pretty even. Shaw is a bit more stable, Telus seems to like to up their prices here and there because they feel like it and know they have a ton of poor customers on a contract, so they can get away with it. I guess Shaw gets this one, Telus 4, Shaw 2
Internet — Quality on both good days? Telus gets the point. Shaw can be quite a bit faster but would go out for days at a time for no explained reason. Shaw, the biggest dilemma is: is it worth waiting 2 hours to get it fixed or can I use the internet on my phone for the next two day? Telus 5, Shaw 2.
TV — Telus is way better. Their VOD is way better. Telus 6, Shaw 2.
OK, when I started this review I was really upset about Telus and their @(#@* price changes without any justification or good notice, but when I remember how bad Shaw was I will bump Telus up from 1 star to 3 stars. Damn monopolies.

They have some nice products like Satelite TV and Ultra High Speed Internet. The problem is that if you ever need support forget it. You’ll end up speaking firstly with a computer, then talking to someone in the Phillipines call centre.
Those people don’t seem to have the remotest idea of what they are talking about. Asking them the most basic of questions like «Can I add an extra jack hardwired into another room from my router» will have them paraphrase the question back to you 5 times, put you on hold while they reboot their computer, and more often then not, cut you off. I got cut off 3 times before I got someone who asked me questions like. 1) Is the modem plugged into the phone jack in the wall? 2) Please reboot my PVR to check the DSL.
The service man that finally came out because I had no DSL signal told me he doesn’t know why and just left, saying maybe it will be better in the morning. He didn’t do any tests with the exception of looking at the wiring in the basement. My VOIP business phone was down for 2 days. He told me he comes from a 3^rd world country and their systems are far better than Telus’s who just have a mish-​mash of patched up ancient hardware and expect them to perform miracles.
It’s not by accident that they get consistently bad reviews. They basically do everything they can to save a dime and make more money for the shareholders and don’t give a rat’s ass about the consumer.
I used to have Telus Centrex and after more than a year of trying to find someone who knew how to add voicemail to one of the lines, without success I pulled it out. Most of their employess have no idea what Centrex is. The guy in the Phillipines sounds either drunk or like he just got in from pulling an all night shift somewhere.
While CEO’s must be laughing all the way to the bank at the cash machine they’ve got while treating the consumer like trash.

They treated me awful.
Stayed home one day from work so someone could fix my Internet. They didn’t show and told me to stay home another day.
Also, their bandwidth caps are shit.
Try teksavvy, they resell telus and bell but have way higher bandwidth allowances.
My problems are with the Corp. I don’t know anything about this branch, I just assume they blow.

I wish the public would wake up to Telus spending oodles of money on advertising money to sign people up on contracts then not deliver.
Tech support, sales centres — wherever you go the contracts and pricing are all in this monopoly’s favour. I know Shaw is no stellar provider, however a ho-​hum average company is looking stellar next to this monstrous slow Telus.
