There could some potential here. You’re nothing amazing right now, Tomkins. But maybe you were. and maybe you could be! Green spaces are a wonderful thing in Calgary and I love seeing little parks all over the place. If Tomkins was left green it would eventually turn brown from all the the foot traffic through this narrow strip along 17th Ave. That’s ok — it’s still manages to have some park-like characteristics even with all the brick. You have to walk by it, but there’s not enough going on to encourage people to stop and hang out. The area looks like a great place for a little summer concert venue or a small festival along 17th Ave. It looks like a space that was built to be used but almost never is. When you’re walking along 17th Ave, make sure to walk to Tomkins Park so you can get a look at the cool businesses along the little side street. There’s some cool shopping there that you might overlook.

In the middle of nowhere, along busy streets and shops, it’s nice to have a pit stop. A rectangular-long shaped park that begins right a the intersection, it’s got several benches at both ends and decent landscaping(it’s by no means a place to marvel at). Interesting that there’s a gazebo on one end, nice touch, you sure don’t see those around anymore. Other end, a public washroom towards Clive’s ;)

A skinny park betwixt 17th Ave SW and an auxiliary road, Tomkins isn’t much to write home about. A few small scale public events happen here in the summer, but none particularly noteworthy. Minimally landscaped with grass and trees, its primary function is to provide some shaded seating during summer days, and a dumping ground for various bar patron waste products at night. Don’t go out if your way to visit, unless you’re looking for spot to eat your food truck lunch, or a place to revisit it later in the day.
