If you haven’t tried this place yet it is a definite must! We loved the meat and cheese pies with hot sauce, they were packed full of flavour and super filling. Awesome food at a great price and very friendly owner and staff. We definitely be back!

For $ 4 you can get a piping hot«meat pie.» This middle eastern pie is a fresh oven baked pita with a ground beef filling that’s been browned in herbs and spices for a tasty aromatic flavor. They have other fillings for various prices, including cheese, spinach and cheese ect ect ect. For $ 4 you can’t go wrong, it’s hot, fresh, filling and flavorful!

I’ve been coming here since I was a small child with my family. My grandmother is originally from Lebanon and she and my parents insist on coming here for meat pies, as well as some other tasty treats. If I remember correctly, they used to have a small grocery type area with little treats. My favourite were the candy coated chickpeas and jordan almonds of course ;) Meat pies are nice and crisp and hot when you first get them. They aren’t as good when they are old, and tend to get a rubbery texture. But fear not, the only time I’ve eaten an old meat pie from this place, is when I order two for myself and I save one the next day! Their pita is delicious and we enjoy it with many of my grandmother’s traditional dishes. The lady at the front can be gruff, but she means well. If you don’t know how to order fast/properly you’ll probably get a look or two. I personally always order my meat pies traditional(meaning that there isn’t cheese or veggies) but I bet that would also be tasty. I’ll always be back for more when the craving hits.

This is a good Mediterranean bakery/deli with some hot dishes. It’s tucked away in the corner of a shopping center close to memorial, so it’s actually pretty easy to miss. I wouldn’t say that it’s the best of this type of deli in the city(Jimmy’s A&A is way better) but it is a good option. This is your typical bakery/deli. There are olives, pita, baklava, etc. I would say that the food is much more Lebanese in style but I wouldn’t say that it is the most authentic place I have been to. The feta is a good quality and the meat is tender and flavorful. Things are a little over salted, but not terribly slow. The pita is soft and fluffy. All in all, I found the food good, but unremarkable which is why this has 3 stars for me. The owners and workers are incredibly friendly and it has a great price with a good selection. If Unilocal would ever allow me to choose half stars, I think I would lean much more to a 3.5. But like I said, I didn’t find it incredibly authentic Lebanese food and I have been to better places on 17th ave SE for the same price.

If you like Lebanese Meat Pies, this is the place for you, every pie is baked while you wait, there are many other items, such as Zaatar, spinach and cheese pies, and many more, but the meat pie is the most popular, and you can eat in or take out, there are stool seating and they offer complimentary olives, and lemon juice and home made hot sauce, which people put on the pies, the homemade hot sauce is amazing, like nothing I have every tried anywhere. This place is a must go to,…you will not be sorry, it’s amazing. And most important, this place is a mini grocery shop and sells fresh daily Pitas, spices, drinks, etc. truly recommended!

FANTASTICBUSINESS !!! This place is a true success story. They have been in operation a long time, and for a very good reason, they understand good buisness. Family run, this buisness takes pride in what they do. All of the staff is super friendly and accomadatting. There product is the best in the City and their prices are so reasonable it is unbelievable . Try their ‘meat pies’. They are as good and affordable as the first time i tried them, 12 years ago!

Absolutely good, fresh food. Something a little bit different than your usual Mediterranean café. The back half of the shop pumps out made to order pita filled with delicious toppings. The complimentary olives are a welcome snack. I’ve gone here a few times over the past decade or so and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

This little bakery makes some of Calgary’s most delicious and fast Mediterranean food. This past Saturday I had not only a Zaatar pie but also a spinach and feta pie and a small tabouli. My bf got the chicken pocket. So these«pies» are in fact thicker pita bread with toppings that are served hot and folded in half. One alone with some salad makes for a filling meal. They also offer a meat option. All are to die for. My bf’s «chicken pocket» is really similar to a chicken shawarma. It was packed with flavourful meat and lots of veg. The store has a few more offerings such as fatayer and baklava as well as grocery items. I highly recommend their pita or balady bread which is made in store. It’s nothing like that cheap crap you get from Safeway. It’s soft and thin and has the tiniest bit of chew. My only disappointment was the tabouli. It was lacking some flavour and could have had more bulgur and tomato/onion in it for the price. Give Village Pita a try when your in the area.

Ive always wanted to stop here, but never had a chance as its pretty far out of the way for a transit user. But today my friend treated me :) To get there via transit: take the ctrain to Franklin. Go out the right hand side(the opposit side to catching the buses) to the Boston Pizza, cut behind the boston pizza parking lot thrb cross the street. Directly in front is the parking lot for the bakery, nestled in the back corner. This place is great! You can get a pita to go then buy the ingridents right there to make it at home. Fresh, fresh, fresh, fresh. Pita bread baked daily. Fresh veggies. Love When we went, i got the cheese pita. It was ok, i was expecting a garlic sauce but it was the 5 cheese blend on a pita shell. It was ok, but not great. It was $ 4.50, wishing I got the spinich and feta. Next time :) My husband got the surpreme meat pie for $ 7.99“and it actually filled him! Which is hard as hes 6’7 — he loved it. 5 cheese blend, roasted veggies and steak. My friend Mo got chicken pocket — like a sharwma in a wrap with tons of veggies and the 5 cheese blend and hot sauce. He really enjoyed it. I would have rated it a 4 but its in such a bad loctation thats hard to get to so I vote a 3.

I travel to Calgary every few months, one of the *MUST* stops is here. The meat pies, with the hot sauce and the lemon juice… get an ice tea or something with a bit of sugar in it to cut the heat later. The place may look like nothing fancy, but the place does a hopping business. Sit there for an hour, eating your two meat pies, trust me, come with a big appetite and enjoy two with a friend.

I grew up eating at this place. It was conveniently located on my way to school to Rundle College when they used to be in the NE. Great hot zaater pitas and good falafels. For $ 1 you could get the fresh hot pita and slather them with hot sauce and eat with olives — and coffee. Mmmm… I think the prices have gone up, but just a solid place to get food.

Who knew a steak and cheese wrap could be so AMAZING?!? I was far from disappointed, in other words, I am still in awe. To be honest I was mystified and in love after the first few bites. Everything at this store looks delicious! A favorite for myself and classmates of mine. If you are up for a cultural experience get the milky yogurt looking drink found in their fridge. Make sure to shake it up before drinking. I promise it is SOOOO yummy. But don’t say I didn’t warn you – it is a strong unique flavor. Vimto… a yummy alternative tastes like pop, but not as carbonated.

Coming from your resident vegetarian, you KNOW I’m telling the truth when I say that Village Pita Bakery has THE best Sfeehas in the WORLD. How do I know this you ask? Because I USED to eat meat, and to this DAY I still dream about these bad boys. What is a Sfeeha you ask? It’s the equivalent of a meat pie, but bigger and much, much better. Picture a home-made pita, toasted and crispy, and inside is seasoned, smouldering hot, beef or chicken. It comes fresh out of the oven, and you can add topings to the insides. They unfold them and put in whatever toppings you’d like(Ie: Pickles, hot peppers, tomatoes etc.). It is served with this DELICIOUS garlic sauce that is tangy but sweet. SOOOOOOGOOD. If I wasn’t vegetarian, I’d eat one a day. Maybe it’s a REALLY good thing that I switched ‘teams’…cause seriously these treasures are to DIE for. Plus once you’re done eating and have back down from cloud 9, you can shop around in their store. They have everything from authentic bread to THE freshest pita in the city. You need to do something nice for yourself and take yourself there. Seriously.
