Suitable for all budgets, with over 80 sections to browse, readers of all ages delight in our selection and ambiance.

Our children’s section houses over 40,000 titles and is a cozy little nook complete with toys. Over 80 sections are meticulously organized — our cookbook section alone is 64 feet in length, with subcategories as specific as «Chocolate» and «Fondue» to make browsing an utter pleasure.

We also buy books for in-​store trading credit, as well as for cash.

History

Established in 1963.

Originally established in 1963, The Book Man was acquired by The Short Family under the name Erna’s Book Nook in 1990. The store underwent a name change, one physical move, and a subsequent expansion to its current size and location at 45 939 Wellington Avenue.

As of 2010, The Book Man employs a staff of fifteen, who share over 70 years of combined experience in book selling experience. Their resident cat, Nietzsche was adopted from an animal shelter in 2008 and is known for greeting customers at the front door and sitting in the middle of the counter.

The Book Man is passionately involved with community literacy initiatives, as well as creating culture in the form of concerts, readings and in-​store literacy events. Bursaries are available through local high schools for burgeoning authors. The Book Man has won multiple awards for their popularity within the community of Chilliwack, as well as for their outstanding environmental and employment standards.

Business Owner

Amber runs The Book Man alongside her father, David. With nearly 20 years of experience at The Book Man, Amber truly knows the store inside and out. She is a firm believer in both creating, and participating in local culture, and truly loves what she does. Amber is the driving force behind the internet and mail order side of the business, and has led a team in databasing the store both in-​house and on-​line.

Her personal passion for health, well-​being, personal evolution, organization and yoga seep into the bright and relaxing atmosphere at The Book Man. She brings her heart to work with her everyday, and believes in creating an atmosphere that is respectful and relaxing to everyone who walks through the doors of the bookstore, employees included!
