BOTTOMLINE: Definitely not lux, but«The Lux» is functional, clean, convenient and a good value. The Luxury Inn(«The Lux») is your standard travel motel — if you’ve been in one, you’ve been in them all. But what sets The Lux above the rest to warrant in a 4-star? First, it’s CHEAP! During the high season(seriously, when is it NOT high season in Collingwood?), it was still $ 20 cheaper than the Holiday Inn Express across the street. It’s way cheaper than the surrounding BnBs, so unless you plan on staying in your room all day or you cherish that«gourmet» breakfast at a $ 30 – 50 premium, The Lux is your place. Second, location, location, location! Located just on the western edges of downtown, Collingwood means you’re that much closer to the hills and Spa Scandinave. The best part, perhaps, is that you’re walking distance from a bunch of tasty establishments(e.g., Northwind Brewhouse and The Smoke) so you can just stumble home after your imbibings. No need for a DD — a HUGE plus. And third, none of this would be worth it if it wasn’t actually clean, right? Well, The Lux just completed their renos so the inside is brand-spankin’ new. They even left the plastic wrap on their lamp shades(um, the owners are Indian). The rooms are also HUGE such you can barely hear the AC/heater because it’s so far away! Haven’t tried their wi-fi but I’ve heard it’s fast. Finally, if you want some proper coffee, go next door instead to Ashanti for their Zimbabwean brew. Will definitely be back.
