AMC Insurance Services Ltd.

Rather upset with them right now:
We’ve been mortgage free for over 14 years now, but apparently paying a premium on our annual home insurance for being in a mortgage. Not exactly sure how much, somewhere between 10 and 20 percent I believe.
When I happened to notice something cryptic about «mortagee» in the policy, gave them a call, their response was to let me know we wouldn’t be charged for that next time, and that the onus was solely on us to know about this, no compensation for the past 14 years of overcharge.
And no apology.
It seems to me an insurance broker is supposed to be «in your corner», looking out for you. Not in our case.
If anything further transpires, I’ll update this.
Update, February 10^th, 2015:
Well, AMC did make a good effort, utltimately, and I’m satisfied with the outcome. One issue, they only acquired that location from another Insurance Broker, maybe 2 years back. They ensured we weren’t charged a mortgage premium for the current year (simple enough), reimbursed us for the prevous year (out of their own pocket, I think), AND provided us with pre-​loaded gift credit card, purely a goodwill gesture.
All in all, AMC really went beyond their realm of responsibility.
