I figured since I got a kick ass Halloween costume I might as well live it up this year and attend as many Halloween parties as possible this being one of them. It also helped that this is the first Halloween that has fallen on a weekend in 6 years. There were sadly a small percentage of people dressed for the occasion. Lots of lazy girls wearing just cat ears and faces made with eyeliner. Myself I dressed as a strip of bacon felt severely over dressed. The evening had 3 bands: Yuca, Head of the Heard and the main event Finger Eleven. Yuca were too generic that it was painful to hear. Head of the Heard was generic rock and Finger Eleven was as I remembered them to be. I don’t drink, therefore, spent a good portion during the openers out in the lobby eating almost the entire bowl of CFOX’s candy. I was way too sugar high for my own good. I am convinced that Milk Duds are a gateway drug. I think my stomach was unintentionally sponsored by Hersey. I was so bored during Head of the Heard that I started playing video games while patiently waiting. The evening leading up to Finger Eleven felt like waiting at VHG for a nurse to take your information only to wait another hour just to see a doctor. They played tightly and the singer had some charisma but musically there was nothing that encouraged me to stop playing Angry Birds. It’s been more than a decade since my last Finger Eleven show. At first it felt like that awkward meeting with an ex boyfriend for the first time in years. The show became familiar territory within 2 songs. The long transition between bands was unnecessary. I guess Finger Eleven needed the extra time to put on their skull make up. It was appreciated that they got into the spirit. It was weird that the casino show started so late for the headliner. Normally for weekend shows they start early to encourage patrons stay and gamble. I guess the casino was afraid of the costumed rock freaks mingling with the elderly. The band sounded great. They were very tight and into their own performance. Vocally Scott Anderson was right on key. His vocals were strong and commanding for the material. They debuted some new material which got a positive reception from the crowd including from yours truly. Of course there were fan favorites. The weak point of the show was their cover of Depeche Mode’s Walking In My Shoes. It’s one of those singles that shouldn’t have been. It was cool none the less to witness an appreciatiation for an electro band like Depeche Mode. They made up for it by performing That’s All by Phil Collins before transitioning into Paralyzer(a personal moment that was ruined by the lady singing out of tune in my ear). The encore was mostly their more mellow acoustic numbers, the sentimental ones I grew up with. I had to move to the back cause the vocally impaired lady was ruining it for me. Her voice was so bad that my dog Freedom came back from the grave. This would be plausible since it’s Day Of The Dead.
