Mr. Lube

I’ve been coming to Mr. Lube for years and I think they get slower and slower as time goes on. I have been sitting here for 1.5 hours now for a simple oil change. I swore to myself last time this happened that I wouldn’t come here again but I like the free top ups you can get if your oil gets low. I’ve decided that is no longer worth my time and would rather spend the money to buy the oil and fill it up myself.

I should know better, I really should. The only people who go to Mr Lube are people who (a) don’t know much about cars or (b) just want to drive in, get dealt with, and be done. I am both of these people, so I’ve been going to various Mr Lubes on and off for years. However, this last visit will be my last.
The only reason I went to Mr Lube was because my check engine light came on Saturday night, and I wanted to have it checked out, and my regular guy is closed on Sundays. I wanted to have someone read the code so that I could figure out how to deal with it.
Same old story, asked for an oil change, got upsold on a lot of things, so my bill was $ 653 (seriously). Asked them to diagnose the fault code that triggered the check engine code (the reason I came to this crappy joint in the first place). The guy told me «it’s not significant, don’t worry about it, I reset it». I told him I’d like to know the code and he said «Well, we can’t give it to you, we reset it. But it’s not a big deal.» Drove away, literally 2 minutes later, the check engine light went on. Went over to a friend’s house today, and they have code reader. Well, the code refers to «Evap emissions control system vent valve/​sol malfunction», which is kind of a big deal and wasn’t going to be fixed by the $ 600+ lube I just bought from these crooks.

This place is a trap. They play on the fact that you don’t have a mechanic mindset and they pressure you into buying unnecessary things that you never originally came in for. All I wanted was a simple oil change… I don’t know what part of that was confusing because they harass you about filters and tiny metal shavings in my transmission which has been a story I’ve heard from others before me. Might as well have told me that the unicorn in the engine is looking a little worn out and need an upgrade. You never know what lie can bring in an extra $$$. These employees are simply salesmen with the honesty of Bernie madoff. You do not need these people to rip you off and make you feel bad for not using synthetic oil. Do yourself a favour and take it elsewhere. You’ll be glad you did.

Been here once and probably won’t return. All of the staff seemed to be on training day or something. I didn’t really get the feeling that anybody new what they were doing except the foreman (for lack of a better term) anyways, everything seemed fine but they were trying to upsell me on everything! As it turns out I needed a new air filter as it was quite dirty. But I had to decline everything else as I really just wanted an oil change!

First time here today and I will be a forever customer. I told them about my awful experience at Castrol lube where they totally ripped me off.
Here I was treated with courtesy and the service was above and beyond anything I’ve ever had.
I had asked about the work that was done at Castrol and they told me that most shops try to up the services and sales, and that I would’ve never needed in the lifetime of my vehicle what Castrol sucked me into.
I was not pressured to receive any other services here.
Today they made a loyal customer.

I will never go here again. I needed a quick oil change for my Subaru. They tried to upsell me on everything, including the replacement of a clean air filter that I had recently replaced, The tech then showed me what he claimed was a sample of my differential oil, which was black and contained large bits of metal. He said the dealer charged $ 200 to replace it, and they were going to charge me $ 100. One shouldn’t see large bits of metal in diff oil, so either something was really wrong with my car, or this was a scam. I declined the diff oil change and took the car into the Subaru dealer in Langley. The dealer asked me if I took the car to Mr. Lube (!!!) and proceeded to tell me that Mr. Lube tries this tactic all the time. The fluid did not need to be changed for another 31,000 km, and Subaru charges $ 96 to change it plus fluid cost. However, for piece of mind the dealer checked my diff oil for free — it was perfectly clear and contained no metal bits. So what happened here Mr. Lube? I have no confidence in this business and will rely on the Subaru dealer in future.

I’m a regular here at this location but today’s experience made it worthwhile for me to make a review. Of all the times i’ve been here, today was perhaps the best. My service tech was Singh and I believe that his approach will bring back customers like me. The previous times I was here, I felt like i was over sold things like engine flushes, fuel line flushes, etc. I really hated that. Singh only asked me if i wanted my cabin filters changed and I appreciated that. As a customer, you just need to know that they are not your one stop for everything. Come here to get your oil and filter changed, that it.
Friendly attitude, honest approach, that’s all i ask for and I received it this morning. Thanks again Singh and I hope I get you next time I return.

Extremely Dishonest — But convenient.
I think all Mr Lubes are run the same way, they get you to come in with the convenience of a quick and painless oil change but proceed to blatantly lie to the customer about the condition of their vehicle trying to upsell other services. This one here, told me that all of my fluids (front and rear differential, transmission and transfer case) needed replacing when I had just had both differential and transfer case done at my real mechanics.
If you go in with the intention disregarding everything they say and only get the oil change you’ll probably be ok. but why reward dishonest business practices? There are hundreds of shops to get your oil changed.

Never ever go to this place for an oil change! This place is run with idiot employees that try and take innocent consumers money away from u. Do not cave in on what they say. It’s all B. S

AVOID MR. LUBE!
My first time to Mr. Lube was a horrible experience that will never be repeated. As the other reviewer said, «what a rip off!» I came in for a simple oil change and the guys there were trying to up sell me on everything, made me feel as though I didn’t maintain my vehicle which is not the case. I do everything the dealership expects me to do for warranty purposes. Yes, they give you a free newspaper and offer coffee. Why? I don’t know. I was asked repeatedly to turn on my car, flash each blinker, tap my brakes, turn off my car only to be asked to do it again. «okay Miss, we’ll leave your car running for 5 minutes». Okay, I’ll read the paper. In the meantime, I’m being bombarded with questions, recommendations for premium oil. The kicker is I’m told that I need a transmission flush. My dealership recommends that at 96,000 kms and I’m sitting with 71,000. WTH? Uh, no. Not having a flush that will cost an additional $ 350. (Yes, $ 350). My car is still running and all of a sudden it sputters and the guy says, «Uh miss, can you turn your your car off?» So I do. I’m told that I need a new air filter. The one they showed me indeed looked like it could be replaced so I agreed. Apparently they had taken out the air filter with the car running which made it sputter and stall. NOT RECOMMENDED!
So when all is said and done, it costs me $ 115 for an oil change and air filter. Fine. I start my car and the battery is dead and I’m blamed for this. My car has never done this before. Battery boost and I’m outta there.
Fast forward and I’m heading away for the long weekend for my husband’s birthday 2 days later and my SUV is acting up, stalling and no power at take off. We are approaching West Coast Nissan so I call to say I’m bringing my Murano in. These guys accommodated us last minute and ran a diagnostic on my car. What’s wrong? Mr. Lube did not assemble my air box (air intake chamber) so it was sucking air. Quick fix by Nissan and we were on the road again. However, Mr. Lube received a very nasty call from me.
This was the absolute worse experience I have ever had when maintaining any of vehicles. Avoid Mr. Lube!
