History
Established in 1922.
A significant part of the Durham Region’s history, Roy Nichols Motors was founded in 1922. Roy, the son of a well known farmer in the community, eventually made outstanding contributions to the local municipal government having served Darlington as Councillor for four years, Deputy Reeve for two and eight as Reeve of the Township.
The business began as a repair garage located on the only road connecting Toronto to Kingston at the time, but by 1933 the company was selling the entire General Motors line.
In 1947 the local paper wrote, «Thousands of people from all parts of the province and beyond who never heard of Courtice learned about it when they journeyed to Roy Nichols’ place to buy new and used cars. They traveled from afar and near because word spread that buyers received a square deal at the Courtice dealer’s hands. They never were disappointed.» We are proud that this is still true today!
