Giant Tiger

Giant Tiger is not on my list of regular discount stores, but I’ve stopped in a few times since it opened to check out what it has to offer.
Pros:
— Sometimes you’ll get a fantastic deal on things — I’m thinking specifically of the $ 4 frying pan I purchased well over a year ago that lasted until last month. I’ve also gotten pet supplies, home décor, and other small things for a great price.
— If you’re looking for fireworks, Giant Tiger has them.
— Lots of parking.
— The selection is always changing, which is both good and bad. I never did find another awesome $ 4 frying pan, but there were lots of other pots and pans to be had.
Cons:
— Easy to miss — I always forget that GT is where it is because I never make that left turn toward the Staples Plaza.
— The grocery section is hit or miss. As with most discount stores, you really need to know your prices before you buy anything. Some items were no cheaper than, say, Superstore or Sobeys, and some were even slightly more expensive. I’ve never encountered problems with the produce as some other Unilocalers have.
— The quality of some items can be pretty poor.
GT may not be for everyone, but it’s great for those on a budget. I should stop by more often.

When you are low on money, Giant Tiger is the place to go. My husband and I are vegans and still can manage to scrounge up some food in this place. We get a good value for our buck. If you are looking for high end, you won’t find it here but you get what you pay for. It’s been a lifesaver recently.

Value for price and you can get anything there!

I was happy when this store was opened up on my side of the bridge. You may have to really look for them but there are bargains (good value at a good price) to be had. There are also plenty of cheap things for when cheap will do. This is fairly small compared to the one in Truro and a little better laid out then the one in Halifax.
The «fresh» produce is rarely close to fresh looking (I don’t know why they bother) but packaged foods are usually a pretty good deal. Best prices for Tassimo discs I’ve found so far, selection is not great but they have what I want. For produce I’ve found Gateway Meat Market’s new produce section the best value by far.
I would say it’s a step between the Dollarama and Walmart, reminds me of Stedmans or the Met for any of you who might remember those stores. I wouldn’t go out of my way to shop here but there are a few items that I will go here to buy when I’m in the area.

This Giant Tiger is the only one I’ve ever been too and I’m not impressed. Often I’ve been here and the vegetable and fruit were bad or just about getting there. Although it’s a decent place for shelved food items, and non edible things like candles, towels, rugs and clothes, It’s not very much a place to frequent often.

I have only been to this location once, and I was not impressed. I was a frequent customer of Giant Tiger when I lived in a small town in NB because it was really the only store other than Sobeys and Superstore.
When I walked inside, I was surprised at how cramped it felt. I found the layout kind of awkward as well. We quickly walked around, and made our way towards the cash. We bought one thing, and I cannot remember what it was (rice roni I think). I noticed the cashiers were deep in conversation and not very customer friendly — it seemed like they did not want to be there. Other than the cashiers I saw no staff in sight.
Overall, I probably will not be coming back unless they have a really good sale on something that I need. For a new store location, I expected more.

Giant Tiger is not one of my favorite stores. While some produce prices may be cheaper than the grocery store, their produce isn’t always the best I’ve seen.
Their clothes and other items may be on par with Walmart but they don’t have a large selection of anything.

Be very carefully with the produce you buy here. There seems to be piss poor produce standards here. Double check everything. I’ve seen boxes of rotten black tomatoes on the sales floor, brown califlour, and a lot of fruit flies.

Dartmouthians no longer have to brave the bridge to get to a Giant Tiger, or drive the Truro. New to the «Staples Plaza» just off Portland Street is another big (well no so big) box store.
There isn’t really anything giant about this Giant Tiger. I was a little disappointed in it’s lack of size. Prices are on par at what you would find at WallyMart, and there is even a small grocery section.
What I do love about Giant Tiger is their DVD discount bin! $ 4.99 and under DVDs and they have a shelf of cheap blue rays as well. Scored a obscure movie called Mutant Chronicles (with Ron Pearlman, Thomas Jane and John Malkovich) for only $ 2.99.
I can’t see me frequenting the store, but I’ll likely pop in every so often to check out the cheap DVDs.
Cashier service was standard. Hello… thank you. No one asked me if I needed help while I aimlessly wandered the store.
Oh… another thing to note, they have these baskets that you can use if you don’t want a cart… but it has WHEELS. Great for those people who find carrying a basket way to strenuous, personally I like the ones with handles.
