Pillars of Health offers a number of alternative treatment modalities, but I have only received acupuncture treatments from Kenton Sefcik. Here’s what I’ve found thus far: Pros: — Kenton is a genuinely nice guy — personable, positive, and caring. I’ve gone for about six treatments so far, and I’ve found that my sleep quality has greatly improved and some of my digestive issues have resolved. Like any other treatment, it is essential for the patient to do his or her part in order to ensure recovery/improvement. — For those of you wary of needles, be assured that acupuncture is really not as scary as it sounds. The insertion of the thin, flexible needles is quick and almost entirely painless, and Kenton is big on feedback — if you’re not comfortable, the course of treatment can be altered. You may get a bit of muscle ache afterward. — I’ve had cupping done to my trapezoids, and I found that this was a surprisingly relaxing experience. It leaves small bruises but is great for releasing tension. — The office is small, but it’s clean and modern. Staff have been pleasant and accommodating. — Student discounts are available for most services. Cons: — Being right on the corner of Portland and Alderney, noise can occasionally be an issue. — Parking can be difficult to obtain during the daytime. Your best bet would be the metered spots on Prince. Great choice if you’re interesting in giving acupuncture a try!

I won’t lie I was like many people a skeptic when it came to naturopaths and chiropractors. The staff at Pillars of Health have certainly changed my mind. I have been suffering with severe headaches and migraines for almost two years now. I’ve been for test after test, and tried many different medications. As a last resort I decided to follow a co-workers suggestion and try out a naturopath at Pillars of Health. I booked an appointment with Dr. Jennifer Salib Huber(who is also a dietitian), and immediately felt at ease. She asked me more questions than I think my family doctor has ever asked me, and then was able to determine a likely cause, and a treatment plan including dietary changes and visits to a chiropractor(not a pile of prescription meds!) In three days I had better results than I had had in the past two years, and the following week I went to see Dr. Denise Wright, the chiropractor in the office, who also helped me greatly but with no big whipping or snapping movements that I was scared of. She was also great when it came to putting me at ease, and always uses the gentlest method of adjustment possible. She also suggested I see a Registered Massage Therapist(Meghan L. Munro(Palmer), and all three combined have virtually gotten rid of my headaches. I know for someone without medical coverage this can be expensive but for those who are covered by an insurance plan I would highly recommend all of the staff at Pillars of Health. I also liked that they are trying to help me not have to come back. I know that my sound weird but sometimes I feel like(especially with private practitioners), they want you to keep coming so they keep getting paid, but here getting you better really is their #1 priority. They do direct bill to Blue Cross, and their clinic is very clean and welcoming.
