Sobey’s is my big chain grocery store top pick, this store is my number 2 go to in Dartmouth. It’s the closest to home and on one of my routes home so typically my go to when needing to pick up something I forgot. Getting in, around and out of the parking lot can be a logistical nightmare, but once inside, the store is not usually very busy, so no long lineups. The store flows pretty well. Being one of the smaller stores, it doesn’t have the best selection but I can always find the basics at least. Sale items are pretty well stocked but sometimes they run out. Cashiers can be anything from aloof to chatty, frankly, I’m just looking to get through as quickly and accurately as possible and usually, this happens here.

Not all grocery stores are created equal, and even amongst other Sobeys, this one is not my favourite. However, it is the most convenient, located only a couple minutes’ drive away from the house. It’s clean, it’s well lit, and it has a pretty simple layout. However, it often lacks the products I typically buy at other Sobeys. It turns out that not all stores carry the same products, so what I find at other stores, I might not get here. For that reason, it’s not always my preferred store. For the most part, I’ve had good service here. There are a couple of cashiers that we tend to avoid because we know from experience that they’re not the quickest, or they have that perma life-hating expression on their face that makes checking out a total drag – I’ve put my time in that job, so I can relate, but I never let the customers see how much I wanted to die to avoid double-bag another 20 tins of cat food. That said, though, most of the time the staff is average. Nothing spectacular, but efficient. The newly renovated parking lot is an exercise in frustration to navigate, especially when it’s busy. If there’s a line-up for the Tim’s drive-through, you better watch out, because even getting into the Sobeys’ lot can be a challenge with the new layout.

This is were I choose to spend my hard earned grocery money. Why? Not because they are newly renovated. Not because of excellent selection. AIRMILES and great staff. I always enjoy my little check-out conversations with the cashiers. I could take my dollars to the new(er) Sobeys down the street… however this one has charm, character. It sells what a grocery store should… groceries. Not clothing, patio furniture, housewares, etc. I don’t have to walk for miles to find what I need either, a quick in and out, just the way I like it(for shopping that is).

Sobeys Cole harbour is a new store that has a great lunch section. I recently had to buy some lunch, didn’t want anything too bad for the gullet. So I went to Sobeys to see what I could find. I bought a Caesar salad for under $ 5.00, it came with two packages of dressing. It was actually pretty good, considering it was not homemade dressing. The size was the medium one. It has freshly grated Parmesan cheese, Bacon, lettuce and some lemons. Not bad really, and then I choose to eat it there. There was a nice section with about 10 tables where you can sit And enjoy your lunch. I thought this was very reasonable and hit the spot.
