Alex Fraser Bridge

We spent a week in Blaine, WA. 4 times we drove up to Vancouver, BC to visit family and tour around the area. Each time we went, we crossed over the Alex Fraser Bridge. It is a nice bridge to look at. I like the architectural design. It is the second longest cable-​stayed bridge in North America. There are a total of 6 lanes on the bridge (3 in each direction).
Really, the only reason why I do not give them 5 stars is because there is not much of a view. It goes over the Fraser River, but there is not much to see.

I love this bridge! Back in the day (1986, Expo Days ;)), quite the high-​tech with its cabled system.
This is easily the most efficient way between Richmond and New Westminster, depending on the time of day, it is indeed bad going fr Richmond to NW, but it’s a breeze the opposite way.
Especially on my rampant shopping and eating bonanzas, this bridge is the best to take than Oak because there’s tons of traffic merging in from both Vancouver and Richmond.
After getting off the bridge, the first exit, 72^nd Ave, take you to Surrey for some Krispy Kreme’s ;)
View-​wise, it’s decent, a bit better when you’re heading north.
I’m on this bridge a lot more due to my hockey games, the River Road exit for the Great Pacific Forum.
Definitely feels safe, with its 3 lanes, and wide ones too.

I have to cross this bridge whenever I am off to see the guy I am dating. I purposely wait until traffic dies down ’cause sitting on this bridge is a nightmare and it can seriously test one’s patience. Then again this goes for most bridges and roads in the city. It is easy to connect from Richmond to Burnaby.

Most distinctive bridge in the Lower Mainland.
Every time I fly home from abroad, I always look for this bridge as we fly over the city.
Driving across this bridge on Saturday evening was quite smooth and the traffic flow was paced evenly.
Very easy to navigate on and off the bridge for someone like myself that rarely leaves Vancouver.

One of the more recognizable and nicer looking bridge in the Lower Mainland.
During rush hour, the bridge is actually pretty awesome — it’s the adjacent areas (Highway 91) where there are bottlenecks — especially the junction with 72^nd Avenue. Stupid traffic light.
The deck of the bridge is quite high above the water, so you can get a great view of pretty much all of Greater Vancouver.

Frustrating. Being from Vancouver, it is misleading trying to figure out how to get onto the bridge when you are trying to go to Richmond from Surrey. Looking for the sign that says «Richmond» is not good since it doesn’t exist; rather, you have to realize that the road to New Westminster is also the road to Richmond, even though they are in divergent directions.
Also, the roads are not well-​lit at night and thus it is very tricky to navigate to the bridge itself. Then again, the bridge itself is well-​built and accommodating for large volumes of traffic.
All in all, I guess I’m happy because I never had ice accumulations fall onto my windshield. Unlike the poor people who took the Port Mann.

The Alex Fraser is a great alternative to the silly Massey Tunnel if you are headed in the non-​rush hour direction to avoid the single lane silliness of the Massey.
The Alex Fraser was the first cable stayed bridge built in the Greater Vancouver and was an architectural delight compared with the boring plain bridges prior. The bridge was the longest cable-​stayed bridge in the world when it opened on September 22, 1986 and offers a lovely view of Fraser River.

As bridges go, good, what can I say? Uhh it got me to the other side? Thankfully! Phew!
