Ben’s Meat

Meats and treats galore! My family has been shopping here since before I was born. Best meat shop in Edmonton hands down! Try the croquettes, they’re the best!

Well, I wish I had known about this gem a while ago. There’s so much in here, and I would recommend it just for browsing around for Dutch treats alone. I get Raw Dog Food (which iI actually feed my cats) from here, which is cheaper than buying the expensive vet diet I used to buy, and way healthier.

Popped into Ben’s the other day to kill some time while we were getting a Thule Roof cargo carrier installed just down the block at Racks For Cars.
First of all, why on earth did I not visit here before?!? I used to work just down the block from here 1 day a week. Even back then, office peeps would frequently go to Ben’s for a quick sandwich to-​go!
The small store is filled with all kinds of Dutch goodies and treats ranging from wooden shoes to the largest bulk display of black licorice I’ve ever seen (try salty)! Even check out their website to get the run down on the treats!
The butcher shop is awesome and you can even watch them do their magic while you are in shop! They offer all kinds of deals/​options for freezer packs of meat! Special Orders? You bet, Ben’s Meat has you covered here, too!
They offer hot items made to order such as Croquettes (GO TRY ONE NOW), gluten free chicken & fries, and various sandwiches/​subs! Don’t forget custom orders for holidays such as their Gluten Free Pumpkin Pies!
Be sure to take a jaunt around the whole store to get a feel for what they offer as well as taking in their generational picture wall back by the coffee and bistro table section (you might even find a shot of Dave with Gordon Ramsey). Owened and operated by the same family in Edmonton, since 1953 — not something you find everyday!
And above all, remember they are closed on Sundays so you best be getting there no later than Saturday for your Sunday BBQ needs!

Impressive!
This place reminds me of K&K Foodliner, but a little smaller and a little less chaotic. I walked in to the smells of curing meats and to see three meatcutters and a cashier doting on customers. The fresh counters were full of fresh and cryovac meats as well as value added cuts. The aisles were full of predominately Dutch and other European items, everything from candy to dinnerware. It was fun to look at. This is yet another store I should frequent more often, as it looks like their prices are decent as well, especially for custom cut and specialty meat.
Too bad about the parking. There isn’t any to speak of.

We visited Ben’s for the first time the other day. The Montréal smoked meat and smoked turkey were delicious, and on the way out we saw a sign for an upcoming special on New York steaks. We came back in to place an order, and were highly surprised and delighted when we were told that we could actually have the steaks right then. We cooked the steaks tonight, and were easily some of the best cut we have ever had. Thanks a lot to Ben’s, and we will be back very soon.

Great selection. Asked for low/​no sodium meats, and we were taken care of for a full 20 minutes by the owner, who didn’t rush us.
He showed us which deli meats to look at, and he vacuumed packed a few different days worth (individually) so they“ll keep for a while. Talk about going above and beyond!
We also bought sausages, ground beef, raw turkey breast, and smoked bones for the dog. At the end, he thanked us for our business. All staff was smiling and friendly. It’s nice, as a customer, to feel appreciated. We’ll definitely be doing the 45 minute drive (one way) to shop there again.

Yum, this store brought many childhood memories back. I finally made a visit and now am wondering why it took me so long.
You can find any import food items, the amount of Dutch imports is amazing. I was able to add more pieces to my Blue Delft dish collection.
Very friendly service at the deli and till. Will definitely be returning again.
Note: I followed the advice and parked across the road, because no parking was available by the store.

This is a great family run butcher & deli. Great products & great people. Highly recommend it

Fresh meats and Dutch treats. I like going for the treats more than the meats. Choosing which meat is not my department.
However, they have delicious meats. I very much enjoy their ground beef and pork mix. Super lean without it being dry. It has become a staple in our household. The new york steaks are great too! They have a wide variety of meats, some are marinated for you.
The staff is always friendly and helpful. Especially if you are a first timer at a butcher shop and not sure where to start.
The parking lot is a little difficult, but we park across the street and there is a pedestrian controlled red light crossing 20 steps away. Definitely worth it!

Looking for some fabulous steaks, great chicken, marinated pork or beef jerky? This is the spot. One of the best meat markets that I have seen in either Edmonton or Calgary. When Gordon Ramsay was in town last year this was where he sourced his venison. There are all kinds of Dutch treats throughout the store. It is a third generation family run store and they care about their clients and their product.
Worth the visit!
P. s. They have smoked bones for dogs… mine think they are the best thing ever.
