Burrito Libre

I ordered a burrito and they had very little of each topping. The girl rolled it into a ball and wrapped it up. I ate it and had a bite of each Ingredient individually as it was not made right. Soon after I finished eating it I started throwing up. Very bad food. Will never eat here again.

In past years they have been very polite and delightful to deal with. I recently left campus for a year and it seems that in that time they have made the unfortunate choice to hire some individuals with exceptionally poor customer service capabilities.
I think that if students didn’t want cheap decent food that this place would be a complete turn off.

I work close by so I’m here probably 3 – 5 times a month. Noticed new staff yesterday and was extremely disappointed on the quantity of food I received. I ordered a burrito bowl and was given an extremely scarce helping. Normally I would receive a great amount for paying $ 10 for a tiny box. They didn’t put enough beans or potatoes to even cover the surface area of the bottom of the box. The employee rushed so fast I didn’t even have time to ask for more to be added. So upsetting when paying a bit of a higher price on a very small box.

I decided I wanted something quick to take home for lunch before I had to head off to work. I saw the sign for Burrito Libre and thought I have never tried this place and it’s right down the street from me. So I gave it a shot. It was around 11:30 and not a single person in the building but the guy who has followed in behind me. I let him go first since I wasn’t sure what to get. I decided on a regular chicken burrito. It all looked like it had been frozen and warmed up. The woman who made my burrito could have cared less to be there. She wasn’t pleasant at all. She had warm veggies grilling and threw them practically across the room onto my burrito. I could already tell I wasn’t going to enjoy my meal. I got home and I was starving. I took one bit and the entire thing fell out of the tortilla… It was awful. It tasted like I just ate food marinated in salt. It was hands down one of the grossest meals I’ve ever had. I took a few more bites and my stomach was saying no more. As I’m writing this my stomach is hurting more and more. I know I’ll be sick from that meal. Don’t waste your money. Bad service and even worse food. Waste of 13 $

I absolutely love love love Burrito Libre, and I have it often. I enjoy my usual eats; chipotle chicken burrito in a bowl, and the chips and salsa. Fresh ingredients and consistency is what brings me back. The only thing i would change is that when they first opened, their portion sizes were better. Also, I gave Mucho Burrito a try, since it’s closer to were I love but it couldn’t compare to BL.

Burrito Libre is one of the two major burrito chains in the city — the other being Mucho Burrito. Both are good, but this one is my pick. I’m pretty sure the chain was started by a local guy, although I’d have to check on that fact. But it definitely feels less franchisey than it’s competition. They prepare most of their toppings in the restaurant and are often grilling the vegetables as they’re in the middle of helping a customer. The ingredients taste fresh and it’s tastes much more home-​style to me than Mucho Burrito.
As for the interior, it’s a fast-​food restaurant so it’s not a place to hang around, although it’s nice enough inside and there are some tvs without sound in case your eyes wander and top 40 music playing in the background. All in all, it’s likely one of the healthier fast-​food options around and it’s my top burrito choice in the city (not that there are many to choose from). Thumbs up.

Burrito Libre is OK. Nothing terribly special, and certainly not the incredible place that most make it out to be.
They’re heavy on the cilantro, which immediately puts me off (hey, if I wanted my food to taste like soap, I’d ask for a side of Dawn).
The only redeeming thing here are their fresh tortilla chips. Lightly dusted with salt and a hint of lime, they’re worth eating without even adding salsa!

I ate there May ²³⁄₁₄. The ingredients are fresh. I ordered a salad version of a burrito with guacamole — and without the tortilla or whatever it is called. The greens were not spun properly to remove all water. The lid barely fit the take-​out container and the container was flimsy.
The music was a bit too loud. Perhaps they are trying to prevent college kids from using the eatery as a study area. I could not hear what one of the servers was asking me in limited English and she couldn’t hear me. She was trying her best. I ate there with a friend a couple of weeks ago and it was hard to have a quiet conversation.
I notice that the place is often empty and that there is usually a kid out on 112 Street waving a sign trying to get customers to come in. Maybe if they turned the music down more customers would come and stay. I took my food outside to eat.
The food was OK. Perhaps if I had ordered other menu items I would have something to rave about.

BURRITO LEAKY. We ordered 2 burritos. Pulled pork and shredded beef. Both were wet and soggy and cold since the burrito maker made them so sloppily and did not drain ingredients. We made such a mess all over the table, and there was no way to hold them. Gross. The flavors weren’t terrible AND they put green and red Tabasco on the tables. That is why I gave 2 stars instead of one. Will never return.

Having been here a few times, I continue to come back for the food fare. Though it’s barely anything like real Mexican food but definitely a step above the typical Taco Bell/​Tacotime. The burritos are the best value as theyre pretty jam packed with stuff though guacamole is an extra 50 cents for some reason and that’s only strange to me because everything else can be put in at no extra charge. The menu is pretty varied and the actual restaurant is nice enough, lunch time is crazy much like any other place with it being so close to the U of A. I’d recommend for everyone to at least give it a shot or 2 and maybe you’ll find something you really enjoy.

While this place is a «fast food» type joint, it seems a bit of a step up from your usual TacoBell — though it is by no means a Tres Carnales Taqueria. Big portions, quick service, big portions, tasty sides/​additions, and did I mention big portions (when you go with the larger choice)? If you are in the area, in a rush, and want a tasty and filling burrito, then give Burrito Libre a try.

Burrito Libre is a pretty good Mexican restaurant — kind of in the same vein as Mucho Burrito and other mid-​range places that are starting to pop up.
The menu is focussed on, yes, you guessed it, the Burrito. You have two options, a standard burrito wrapped in a tortilla or a burrito bowl, which is much like a salad.
Overall, the food is pretty good and the prices reasonable.
I ordered a couple of burrito bowls and was bewildered by the choices, rice or potato, corn, veggies, two kinds of salsa, sour cream, guacamole, etc. Fortunately, there was no line behind me or there probably would have been some very irate people!
The food tasted pretty good but the portion sizes were smaller than I would have liked. I also would have liked some chips or something in the burrito bowl. It seemed to me like I traded a wrap for an inedible plastic bowl… I know better for next time, I guess. The variety of topping options was fairly extensive and most of it was included in the price, instead of like at most places where, «it’s only 50 cents more…»
I found the menu a bit skimpy (especially dessert), but if you’re just looking for a burrito or a taco, then it’s okay. They offer a variety of meat options (chicken, beef, pork and shrimp) as well as a vegetarian option.
Finally, I ordered it all to go and when I got to work, there were no forks or napkins in the bag — fortunately, I had some of both at my desk.

This is my go to place for a burrito because its decent and it’s the second closest to my place (closest being Taco Bell, which doesn’t really count). I’ve had much better in town but this is convenient and filling and usually fast. I’ve only visited this place once between 12 and 1 and it was really busy.
The protein selection isn’t that complex in flavour but by the time they are finished building your burrito it’s only 20% of what’s stuffed in there. I always get the extra hot salsa and it barely registers. Also, I love guacamole but the $ 1.69 they charge on a large seems like robbery.

It’s hard to find a decent burrito in Edmonton. Believe me, as a pregnant native Texan craving the Mexican food of my youth, I have tried. But Burrito Libre offers up just that: a decent burrito. Actually, it’s better than decent. Sure, it’s not authentic Mexican (or even Tex-​Mex), but it’s good, even if the «spicy» salsa is a little lacking in, um, spiciness.
I have been meaning to try out Burrito Libre for a while. But after having had terrible experiences at another burrito joint with a similar set-​up, I was a bit leery. However, after reading positive reviews from Unilocalers I trust, I decided to give it a try. And I’m glad I did.
We went for the vegetarian burrito and the shrimp, making one a burrito bundle, including chips and salsa and a drink. The burritos were quite tasty. I especially liked the potatoes and the guac. The medium burritos were huge, and we found that for two people, two burritos along with a single order of chips and salsa, was a very satisfying meal.
Overall, it was a good meal for a decent price, plus it was relatively fresh (as far as fast food goes) and service was fast. We’ll be back when in the area and needing a quick, yummy meal, especially if a Southwestern craving hits.

My interest in Burrito Libre was peaked when I saw hordes of customers lined up out the door on their free burrito day event on October 18^th. Though I wasn’t brave enough to join the line-​up at the time, I did make a note to stop by as soon as I could to find out if the masses were merely excited about free food or if there is something more to the fast-​food joint.
My first impressions of the restaurant were positive. I liked how the menu above the counter was colourful and easy to follow. Sometimes I find «build-​your-​own» style menus a bit overwhelming and difficult to find out the vegetarian options. However, I appreciated the step-​by-​step format. You start by choosing whether or not you want a burrito or a bowl and then choose your fillings.
There was a bit of a wait getting my burrito because they were running low on some of the cooked vegetables. However I appreciated the wait because it meant that my meal was going to be as fresh as possible. When my burrito was finally ready it was tasty and flavourful. The Mexican rice was well cooked and the seasoned potatoes were a unique addition. My only complaint is that it was too stuffed and ended up falling apart as I ate it. Since I took it home to eat, it wasn’t a big deal but it would have been somewhat irritating if I’d chosen to eat in the restaurant.
Overall I enjoyed my Burrito Libre experience. It’s a great place for those in the Garneau area who are craving fast-​food but want to avoid the usual chain restaurants.

Burrito Libre is basically a build-​your-​own-​burrito place. You can choose from two sizes (the large one is HUGE) or a bowl, which eats like a salad. Speaking of which, there is also a salad option, but I am not sure how much it differs from the bowl.
Anyways, you choose your size, protein, fillings, salsa, and sauces. Guacamole costs extra (unless you are getting a vegetarian burrito, in which case it comes with it), but is worth it — it is excellent. For an addition three something, you can make your burrito a combo with nacho chips and salsa.
My brother and father had the large veggie burrito combos and said it was just too much food. I had a large chicken burrito bowl and found the combo perfect, as I did not have the extra starch of the burrito wrap to contend with.
I know this is not authentic Mexican food, but the price is right and the ingredients are fresh. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the University area.

Burrito Libre is fairly new and I actually drove by on its grand opening and they were offering free burritos. The line out the door and across the street so I didn’t bother stopping in until recently.
It is a Mexican restaurant located right by the U of A. The food is just OK. It’s not exactly the best Mexican joint but it does its job. The menu was lacking too. There wasn’t a lot to choose from but that’s not always a bad thing.
It’s good to grab a bite if you are in the area and a nice option for students.

I’ve yet to find any good Mexican food in Edmonton. I was hoping Unilocal might lead me to some, but I’m really doubting if anyone here knows what good Mexican really is; even the places with some good reviews have really been terrible.
That being said, I knew before going into Burrito Libre that I wasn’t going to get Mexican. The sign said, Southwest Grill. That’s okay, I can live with that. To be more accurate, this is a wrap shop … one that specializes in southwest ingredients and flavours. As such, it’s pretty good.
A medium burrito is about $ 6.00 and is a meal. The $ 7.50 for a large is the size of a Nerf football, literally. As, for fillings, they make no pretentions about calling it pollo, carnitas or carne asada; it’s two types of chicken, shrimp, pulled pork or shredded beef. With that, you can have black beans, rice, roasted potatoes, roasted green peppers and onions (wherever they use the word «roasted», it isn’t correct, they actually sauté everything). The cooked food is prepared on the range in the open kitchen and is transferred to the prep table. This is really the only way you’d ever convince me that food in a steam table is actually fresh, so kudos to them for cooking «small» batches and keeping the food moving.
Once you select your hot items, you can pick your temperature of salsa (hot is once again not even warm), corn, banana peppers (which really help), guacamole (surprisingly good), lettuce, cabbage, sour cream and their burrito chipotle sauce.
I had shrimp and got a generous portion. There was shrimp in every bite I took. I passed on the carbs, but loaded up on the veggies and beans. The salsa has a little tingle but no bite. The banana peppers helped immensely. All the veg had crunch, even the sautéed peppers. Their chipotle sauce had nice smoke.
As far as wraps go, I got a good amount of protein with lots of good tasting veg. In my book, that’s a win, so I’ll be back.

Burrito Libre is a little Mexican food place right next to the University of Alberta. I decided to grab some food because it reminded me of Moe’s Southwest Grill, which is one of the best Mexican food franchises in the US.
The food wasn’t as great as Moe’s, but it was still okay. I could say that it’s almost as good as TacoTime, but not all the time. The menu here isn’t as varied as TacoTime, which sucks.

I was so happy to this burrito place pop up close to where I live.
These guys are like a smaller Mucho Burrito. They aren’t quite as good but they are darn close.
First of all, I walked in to Burrito Libre 5 minutes before they closed and they still served me with a smile. I really appreciated that.
They have different sized burritos, white and whole wheat tortillas, and all the stuff that Mucho has to fill them. And they have corn (which Mucho doesn’t have). The price was good too. I paid under $ 7 for my super packed small burrito and it was worth every bite. It was soooo good!
If you’re in the University area, check it out!
