I won’t lie… I miss Funky Pickle. And I had never gone in to CDDP until they were gone. But… now I’ve gone twice and they’ve hit the spot both times. I will agree with others and say it is lacking sauce… but when your main clientele is people who are intoxicated, maybe it’s best to not have a messy pizza. Either way, I enjoyed it. Both times I went, I had the same thing. A slice of a meat lovers type pizza. The meat, cheese, and crust were all tasty. Service was fast, pizza was hot. At $ 3.50 a slice, it seems pretty steep, but I’m sure I’ll keep coming back anyway.

Cheap prices. Ready to serve pizza. Hot and decently fast. Located on whyte avenue this takeout restaurant is easily available for a quick bite to eat. They have 3 types of pizza ready made to eat by the slice at all times. On my particular visit the pizza looked dried out and has been sitting out for awhile. But I did see several people ordering it and eating it in the small seating area. So it couldn’t be terribly bad. I ordered takeout on my visit. I tried to called it in but nobody answered the phone after calling three times. This was annoying as it could of decreased my wait time by at least 20 minutes if there was someone to answer the phones. Once inside the small seating area was quite dirty with lots of dirty crumbs and spilled drinks over the counter as if the counter had not been wiped down all day. So minus another star. I ordered my pizza and was told that it would be a 40 minute wait for a pizza to be cooked fresh. This was disappointing. So I did order it anyway since I was already there. the pizza only took 30 minutes to cook. But I feel that they probably had to go shopping for ingredients or something because pizza does not take 30 minutes to cook. This wait was unacceptable. Especially since it was only 8 pm on a weekday. I had ordered a donair pizza. The pizza when arrived was hot and freshly made. But the taste was on the bland side. There was not enough sauce and it really destroyed the pizza entirely. Its funny because the pizza box claimed it was the best pizza in Edmonton. And this was not the case at all. The toppings were sparse and were flavourless. Overall for the price. It was decent. But it wont be one place I would rush back too. And It definitely wont be my first choice when I am in the area. Decent. But has lots of quirks to fix as a pizza takeout joint.

I hadn’t eaten pizza from this place in a while since I moved. I saw a Groupon and figured why not! It’s a 20 minute drive but I wanted some nostalgia. I ended up with major disappointment. Before, pizza was thick covered in toppings and then a thick layer of cheese over the toppings. Sauce would ooze out as you ate. Now, minimal toppings. Cheese is sporadic at best. Sauce is non existent. This pizza doesn’t deserve the name Chicago deep dish. It’s a lie. You may as well order pizza 73. That’s what this looks and tastes like . Only reason it gets 2 stars is because crust is still decent and part of me is holding on to the nostalgia. I won’t be making that 20 minute drive ever again.

This pizza has got to be in the top 5 in Edmonton! I even have it on speed dial on my cell phone. Consistently delicious, hot and fresh and they even deliver early on Saturdays!!!(I’m frowning at Busters and Royal right now). Square pizzas are generally larger than round ones and CDD is plentiful. Thick, homemade crust, tons of toppings, a huge eight thumbs up!

Pizza was lacking sauce, big thick 12″ deep dish with mushroom, onion and jalapeño was lacking the sauce that could have made this a 5 star

Meh. Perfect for late night munchies: After drinks or after a movie. Not their deep dish though! The rectangular deep dish style deceived me for years. It always sounded like a wonderful idea, and is in theory, and the first couple of bites are decent. But I always end up with regrets later. I think this lesson finally sunk in after about 8 years of trying to make it work. Now, the melba toast-esque heat-lamp dehydtared veggie slice… that’s teh bomb with sriracha at midnight.

They should not be using a good name like Chicago’s„ it’s not fair to us who think we’re getting what we’re told, and then get crappie food, like really tastes like bread„ no sauce, and that use nothing to help with steam„ do last few time’s I get very wet pizza, change your name if u can’t follow guide lines that let u use the name«Chicago deep dish„ change it to China pizza, or indi pizza, stop use good names to sell crap

Terrible pizza pie. A hot mess of too much chewy dough and thick cut gobs of unappetizing ‘pepperoni’. The mushrooms were inappropriately jammed on the bottom layer and there was hardly a whisper of the 4th topping which was supposed to be green pepper. If it weren’t for the fact that they’re open late and delivered a pizza at 1:30am on Thursday I would be inclined to leave 1 star. If you want a dense tasteless pizza at a reasonable price late at night then this place will suit you. If you have any love for good pizza then steer clear.

Do not go to this one. We ordered for pickup and when we got there, the man behind the counter told us «we accidentally made a large… so it would be 4 extra dollars if you want it» We told him no, that we had ordered a small and that is what we wanted, so he told us he would cut it into a small. We paid, and ended up with a butchered mess of a pizza, super soggy bottom crust with half of it just chopped off the edges. I may be picky, but I love the crust of pizza and we ended up with only half of our crust and the rest of the pizza with such a soggy bottom that you cannot pick it up. We had to eat it with a knife and fork. Do not, for the love of god go to this one. Poor customer service and really awful crust!!!

Ordered from here for the first and last time, the delivery man was very rude and took my 10 $ change and didn’t give it back till i asked. he told me he needed a tip. im not sorry but i give tips only to those who treat their customers with respect. Then he goes and says«I don’t get paid enough money». Why is that my problem, find a new job if you don’t! You don’t take peoples change unless they give it to you. Horrible customer service and the pizza was bland with no taste. not worth the one hour wait. The other restaurant in the west is better. Don’t waste your time, you will get scolded and pressured into tipping. I also came into the parking lot with my grandpa and parked which was a private parking. but i do not drive & i was in the back. my grandpa did not see the sign and parked for 15 minutes. a man came out and blocked us from moving! He gave us attitude and we said we did not know, he was rude and said he did not care. Who does that? Of course we were sorry we parked there but that doesn’t justify you blocking us from moving. Poor customer service. Not how you run a business. All and all terrible food and service.

The one in the west-end is horrible on stony-plain… Deep dish more like no toppings… I pay 40 dollars for a pizza for deep dish toppings I got maybe a 1⁄18 of that pathetic

Looking for something different, and not having had anything from Chicago Deep Dish for a number of years, I decided to place a delivery order and give them a shot. After being notified it’d be nearly an hour and a quarter to have the pizza delivered, I awaited the delivery anxiously. Slightly earlier than the quoted time, the delivery driver showed up — and that’s where the good aspects end. The delivery person was holding the pizza in a bag which was tilted at a fairly strong angle as he expected payment. Given the positioning of the pizza, I asked to see it first before paying; the delivery person got annoyed at this request but relented. He took the pizza out of the bag — a bag which looked like it was there solely to carry the pizza, not appearing to have insulation to keep the pizza warm(and even if it was insulated, the giant tear in the side of the bag would prevent the heat from being retained) — and I looked at it, and thankfully the toppings hadn’t all slid to one side as I thought they may have. After paying, he didn’t say thank you for ordering or anything else of the sort, and the fact his attitude earned him a zero tip he may have been right to not offer a platitude. Payment out of the way, it was time to eat the pizza. The warm pizza. Not the hot pizza. The temperature was above room temp, but not by much. The hole in the bag did its trick. The pizza looked good, but the taste… let’s just say there wasn’t much to speak of there. Literally. It was extremely bland, no sign of spice or flavour, and what toppings there were would come off in a big pile of congealed cheese as it wasn’t hot enough to separate well. The super-thick crust was excessive, nothing like true Chicago Deep Dish style pizza, and the pieces containing an edge(12 of 16 of them, of course) had that edge overcooked and hard and tough to chew. I purposefully ordered more pizza than was needed so as to have leftovers, and I regret that(along with just plain ordering from there) as I’m disinclined to eat more of the pizza. But since it’s paid for, it’s not worth wasting the money(even if it feels like a waste overall). Bottom line, they won’t see another penny from me, and I’d actively encourage others to reconsider if they want to order from here. Edit: Credit where it’s due, free delivery is mostly a thing of the past and they still offer it. Kudos on that. Second star added as a result.

Their pizza is alright, it is deep dish, it is greasy, it is great when you are drunk or having a bad day. However, it is expensive, they take forever to deliver, and they have the worst customer service. We had heard it was the best pizza in Edmonton, and with me being from Calgary(the Chicago pizza there is amazing) and my boyfriend being from Toronto, we decided to try it out. It was at that moment I realized that taking advice from random drunks on Whyte ave on a Saturday night was a terrible idea. They have awful customer service to reiterate, their delivery drivers are rude and their managers are worse, they take forever to deliver, and refuse to wait the entire 2 minutes it takes for me to get downstairs with the elevator. The delivery driver actually left!!! when I called them back they offered to deliver the cold, old pizza in another 30 minutes to an hour depending on their route. I recommend any other place, seriously. Maybe Funky Pickle or Steele wheels if you are on Whyte. Better Pizza, way better service.

I am a pizza aficionado. I looooove pizza. I would get a pizza tattoo if that were socially acceptable. I had heard Chicago Deep Dish was the best pizza in the city. Unfortunately, it is not. I went here after a night out on the town at Whyte. Being the designated driver I was not drinking, although my buddies were. Craving some greasy food, the logical choice seemed to be CDD. When we arrived we were told very politely that the pizzas were still cooking and we had to wait a few minutes. No problemo. The pizza comes out hot and ready, and it looks DELISH. Except for the one large, black hair on top of the pepperoni pizza. Since there was no one else in the restaurant, I let the guy behind the counter know. He was super embarrassed and apologetic, and asked if I still wanted it. Being very hungry I shrugged it off and asked for a slice on the other side. Nothing gets between me and my pepperoni pizza. He gave us a free drink for letting him know, which was appreciated. Once we got the pizza, I was disappointed at how average it was. Lots of cheese with a crispy crust, but it honestly tasted like pizza you could get anywhere. To make matters worse, there was ANOTHER hair under the cheese. Needless to say I didn’t finish my slice and we jammed out of there. If I’m craving pizza on Whyte, I’ll probably stop at Funky Pickle or make the trek to Steel Wheels.

It’s not an eat-in place; there’s no chairs, and the menu is a laminated sheet in the corner. The pizza is great, though. Thick crusts, and lots of toppings and cheese. The staff is also friendly. I’ll definitely eat here if I’m bar-hopping or ordering delivery.

It’s Sunday, and that often means we order pizza. Today we tried Chicago Deep Dish Pizza — taking advantage of their pick up special– and ordered their Super Hot pizza. Peppers, Pepperoni, salami, beef & Bacon. There was plenty of cheese and toppings, the crust is crispy and it reheats well. I like the sauce, and there was not too much or too little. We do find the crust to be a bit thick, and we haven’t seen a single hot pepper, so I’m wondering if they forgot to add them. We would order from here again.

The name is a misnomer — this is nothing like Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. The crust is essentially standard delivery pizza crust, but thicker. It’s not terrible, but it’s not worth waiting over an hour for delivery from. And I don’t have drunken cravings for it the way I did for Blondie’s or Fat Slice when I went to school in Berkeley. Also, their selection of toppings is slim compared to other pizza places around town. I don’t think they offer anything green as a topping other than green peppers.

This pizza is pretty good when you’re in the mood for a quick cheap bite. For me, it’s just greasy enough when I’m in a high-cal mood. I also love that the toppings go all the way to the edge. It’s $ 2.50 a slice but they only take debit for $ 5.00 and over and credit for $ 10.00 and over.

I seriously love Chicago Deep Dish, and maybe it’s because I only ever eat it when I’m craving some seriously greasy pizza, but if that’s what you’re looking for, it’s good stuff. You know what you’re getting at this dive-y little spot just off Whyte. Just pizza, very greasy, and very cheesy. Nothing fancy, just something to satisfy you in the moment. Mama mia!
